About

Scavenge and fight for your next day alive under the shadow of gargantuan war machines. Enemies in the game can literally tower over the battlefield. To put it another way:

The battlefield is unpredictable thanks to The Forever Winter’s Dynamic Encounter system: enemies have their own goals and agendas, operating in coordinated groups, undertaking full-scale battles — and they’ll intelligently react to your actions. The battlefield you leave won’t be the same one you return to.
Use your wits, stealth, and skilled gunplay to make it out alive. Choose your path in the shadow of the two great superpowers, loot the dead, and make it out alive. While the warring factions may ignore you at first, the more disruptive you become to their goals, the more they'll seek to remove you from the equation.
Ecological collapse compounded by runaway technological advancement brought us here: a dystopian world choked by 40 years of industrial-scale violence between two military superpowers, AI automata, cybernetically enhanced soldiers, human-machine hybrids, and relentless automated warfare. There's two sides to this war, and you're not on either.

制作组小时候脑子被 .50 cal打了个洞,所以决定让大家都在游戏里体验一下 Do you think frequently knocked down by general infantry is funny?

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I like the game, i cant recommend it. Just few reasons why. Horrible animation path for enemies (word janky comes to mind) Pickable items spawned in the ground (making them unpickable) Player 3d model occluding iron sights (literally looks like someone grabbing the gun with fingers over the sight bore axis) Ground coliders moving and climbing Enemy vision cones and idle "pathing" enemy spawn distance (visible npc popin) horrible UI horrible UX horrible story telling Good things: nice gunplay okish movement and camera amazing "world" feel/art style wish i could tell you go and buy it you wont regret it... but considering the current state, many would. I hope devs do their best and polish the things that need polishing cause there is a good core gameplay worth bettering with polished features instead of broken mess that it is now.
The game is an absolute masterpiece visually, gameplay wise it's got a long way to go still. there are way too many consumable items in the game making selecting anything in a pinch impossible. We should have set rig slots or something that are set specifically for equipment, meaning anything that you want to use can be stuck in a specific bag slot and used while the rest gets stowed for extract. Also some sort of damage resistance when you prestige would be a game changer its so easy to just die if you're not paying attention for even a second in combat.

It's Early Access, and by Early Access i mean borderline unplayably early. Blame the people who pressured the devs into releasing it early, but i still think that it has great potential.
The Forever Winter has an astonishing art style that beautifully embodies the concept of grimdark. Its maps are great to look at and the NPC wars are absolute cinema. As a contemplative experience, this game is a jewel that I hope will keep growing until it fully matches the devs' vision. However, all the issues I have with this game come from the gameplay. Quite ironic for a game. The playable character isn't enjoyable to control in any way. The movements and gunplay are janky, the animations feel rigid and robotic. It also has a serious lack of logic, as in reloading a shotgun lacking a single shell will put the character in an animation to reload every single shell before being done. I know we are supposed to play a weak nobody. I don't want to play a strong character in this game. But it's simply not enjoyable. When it comes to TPS games that get it, Helldivers 2 perfected TPS movements. It's fluid, smooth, natural yet has believable weight. Only looking at my character move makes me want to play again. One could argue a helldiver is far stronger than a scav, but in Helldivers, players still get dunked on by the armies destroying them. Helldivers 2 style of movement can definitively work in The Forever Winter. Same goes for the gunplay. Now to tackle the aspects that trully frustrated me into a ragequit from this game : everything related to its extraction shooter nature. Some might enjoy this kind of games. I cannot understand them. As far as I'm concerned, extraction shooters are some of the most toxic, frustrating, cancerous, unsufferable kind of games to exist. The entire point of The Forever Winter's gameplay loop is to enter a succession of maps and gather loot until you finally find an extraction to your main hub. That means you can spend more or less time looting for precious ressources, only to die and lose everything. That in itself is very annoying. But it's the main point of the game. This alone wouldn't have pushed me away. I've had a lot of runs where I lost everything, either because of my greed, because I didn't kow the NPCs fighting around or because I didn't know the map. I kept trying, I learned. However, the last drop that made me quit was a situation that, gameplay wise, shouldn't be possible. In this game, you either walk through large, open battlefields or narrow tunnels. I was on a 40+ minutes long run, with a lot of valuable materials. I managed to make my way through a dangerous tunnel map as well as an intense battlefield. The game had yet to offer me an extraction to the main hub, so I kept pushing to the next tunnel map. And here, on the first room after the spawn, the only way forward was blocked by an EXO suit. As you could guess, it is an armored walker with heavy weapons. My grenades and guns couldn't do anything to it, nor could I lure it on the platform I was standing on to try and make it circle around a vertical pipe because the EXO suit got stuck on the little elevation of the platform which kept it standing on the only large pipe I could walk on to exit the area. There was no way around this obstacle and I couldn't destroy it. The run was over and my now 50+ minutes completely wasted without any alternative chance of bypassing this situation. This kind of behavior from NPCs can happen quite often with soldier squads or heavy infantry blocking crucial paths, but those can still die to shotguns and rifles. Why put a light mech in an area where it fully obstructs an unavoidable path? That's why I decided to quit The Forever Winter. It's a beautiful game with a great atmosphere and amazing visuals. It's a poorly crafted gameplay loop of a game that DOES . NOT . RESPECT . YOUR . TIME. I'm very sad about this, but I cannot recommend The Forever Winter. Wait for it to improve and see its worst flaws fixed before giving it a try, lest you get disgusted by what could have been a great journey through a fascinating setting.
buggy garbage. gunplay feels terrible, enemies seem to spawn in INSANE groups (10+) when you turn your back to them, every extract is abolutely filled with these enmies, your guns dont do ♥♥♥♥... I paid 10 bucks for this and I think 5 would still be too much for this. also; no toggle aim, no toggle running? why? also: no option to make my character shut the ♥♥♥♥ up, so instead i have to hear them yapping EVERYTIME a enemy is nearby. It's near constant.

Atmospheric masterpiece, first and foremost. Gameplay can be a bit better (some enemies kill you too fast, but that's 'skill issue' territory). So gameplay is so and so, but my oh my, the world building/design is top tier; music kicks ass too
