About

Antiquarian Thomasina Bateman is writing a book on the barrows of England, documenting the treasures she finds buried within. When an intriguing letter summons her to the small village of Bewlay, tucked away in the remote countryside, she sets off by train with her assistant a day behind.
Upon her arrival, however, the mysterious man who summoned her is nowhere to be found. Her assistant never arrives. A stubborn landowner refuses access to the barrow, and the locals are wary of this woman who is traveling alone and (gasp!) wears trousers.
The excavation of Hob’s Barrow is off to a rocky start. And then Thomasina starts having strange dreams…

A dark, complex and evolving storyline featuring interwoven elements from real English folklore.
Traditional point and click adventure game puzzles and interactions, with an easy modern interface.
A cast of intriguing characters, from suspicious villagers to sickly vicars to lordly landowners, all with their own unique stories and motives.
A distinct folk horror tone and grounding.
Evocative pixel-art graphics, featuring cut-scenes and engaging animations.
A suitably atmospheric original soundtrack from The Machine. The Demon. - one half of the duo behind the award-winning "Football Game" soundtrack.
Fiends in the furrows, the smell of damp soil, and a cat or two.

Hard to recommand this one. It would desserve a "meh", but I will go to negative review. The qualities are just overwhelmed by the defaults. The story is intriguing, but
will let you down at the climax
. The moors atmophere are very well depicted and atmospheric, but well, they are pretty much empty, with plenty of screens with almost no interactions (and no use). Thanks God, there's a map to teleport. 95 % of the game is about wandering in the neighbourhood, for many petty tasks, divided in smaller quests. Your adventure will be interrupted a dozen time by tiny flashbacks (mainly useless and repetitive). The last segment simply don't stand the promise of the game. Too long to build the story, too little to deliver. If you are sure to not play the game :
you will never seen what lay in the basement of the excavation. It will be only described by a text that is supposed to call for your imagination in a Lovecraftian way. And that's the climax!
Only buy this game if it is on sale, not worth the $15 right now. ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** I hate putting "no" as not recommending a game. This game is not awful but like most point and click mysteries, they always end up being possession/demon type stories. The beginning sets up the story really nice, the voice acting is phenomenal but there is a lot going on, and most things that happen never reveal why they were happening. It was like they were just throwing in things to make the character struggle. What happened to her assistant? What was the point of the cats? Why was the Goblin trying to help, was he even real? Maybe I did not pay attention well enough. During Act 2 they just had a lot of running Thomasina back and forth and I became bored with it, hoping the story would make up for the lack of creativity, but no. I like a good horror ending, but this game just comes up short.
Kinda meh. Gameplay is too linear, puzzles are too obvious ("use key with key hole" sort of "puzzles"), the story is too trite, and has too many fade outs to save on animations. I'd rather you just put the combined item in my inventory instead of fading out-and-in immediately to simulate that the character did something. Overal 5/10, but can't recommend... just okay-ish.

Nice point-and-click game with great voice acting, beautiful music and great folk-horror vibe. The puzzles themselves are quite easy (which is a plus for me because i don't usually play these sorts of games). The atmosphere is thick and gloomy, the mystery builds up nicely, it has nice tense moments, characters are grear, there are interesting visuals (most of them are in the trailer). The fisrt half of the game is fantastic. Everything after the excavation itself dissapointed me a little, the ending as well. However, i enjoyed the game a lot and would totally recommend to play it for the vibe and the story!
