3-4 Mods turn this game from the worst VR port ever to possibly the Best VR game to ever exist and made me disappointed at the lack of freedom in Half Life Alyx. The freedom of Modded Skyrim VR should be what all VR games strive to be
unmodded this is meh, definitely not worth the insane price trying to get this working modded is actually a nightmare, after 3 months with multiple different modpacks, configs, trying every workaround, different drivers, settings, nothing works... doesn't help that every mod pack is full of random trash you don't need and VR already being buggy AF looks amazing from videos I've seen but would be nice if I could actually play it, maybe in a few months on the 20th fking try :)))))) I hate being forced to use mods
I play the VR version and its the best dungeon vr game on the planet bar none.
Skyrim VR is, without exaggeration, one of the most wonderful games I’ve ever played. I originally played it on PSVR and easily sank over 800 hours into the game. Eventually, I moved to PC VR on Steam, and the upgrade was immediately noticeable—especially in terms of graphics. On top of that, the sheer amount of mods available on Nexus, combined with the excellent support from Vortex, made the PC version incredibly compelling. My current setup is a Quest 3, paired with an ASUS ROG Zephyrus laptop featuring a mobile RTX 4090, and an additional cheap Wi-Fi 6E router for a fully wireless VR experience. Performance-wise, the hardware is more than capable and, once everything is configured correctly, the experience is phenomenal. That said, PC VR isn’t perfect. What I really miss compared to console VR is full, streamlined support for setting up VR games and mods. Tools like Virtual Desktop are fantastic, but the learning curve is steep. It took me nearly two months of trial and error to get everything configured in a way that felt stable and enjoyable. One important tip for anyone struggling with wireless performance: limit the game’s resolution to around 42% (roughly 2000 × 2000 pixels per eye). In my experience, this setting makes a huge difference and results in a much smoother and more consistent gameplay experience—without noticeably hurting visual quality. Everything else can be maximized. Despite the setup hurdles, once everything clicks, Skyrim VR on PC becomes something truly special—and still the gold standard for VR RPGs.
The game itself is as always junk. but thankfully for us, there is an amazing modding community offer fixes to almost every issue you have with this game. won't recommend it if you plan to play vanilla, but if you are willing to put the time and mod it, you'll get the best fantasy VR RPG in existence. there is nothing like this game and probably never will be until bethesda releases elder scrolls 6 VR.
While I only have 10 hours as of writing, I have played 'flat' Skyrim for 70 hours as well, so am quite familiar with the game itself and now have enough experience with the VR implementation to judge it. Skyrim is famous for its excellent atmosphere. Given that one of VR's main selling points is immersion, it is no wonder that Skyrim VR surpasses its flat version by a significant margin. Despite clearly being graphically inferior than modded flat Skyrim, Skyrim VR is far more breathtaking. This extends to gameplay as well. Skyrim's core combat that most players engaged with, meaning melee & destruction magic, was always a bit basic. But physically swinging your weapon, or lifting your arm and casting lightning out of your hand makes it a far more interesting experience. The many dungeons also feel claustrophobic to be in, rather than being a bit dull on a flatscreen. Obviously this is just standard VR stuff: true scale, better immersion, swinging weapons etc. But it is the combination with Skyrim itself, a renowned game in its own right, that makes this an absolute must play VR title. You won't find anything that will rival it in what it does best. As many reviews point out, the base unmodded VR version is lackluster. However, Skyrim and modding are almost synonymous and the existence of modlists make it very easy to do, as all the effort and hassle has been done by other people for our convenience. So I am evaluating it as if mods are the default experience. I used FUS, which strikes a balance between significant QoL improvements & features, upgrading the visuals but not at the detriment of performance.
I played this on switch and it glitched out in the middle of the story and was unplayable. I finally gave it another shot on VR with mods and .....wow. I get it now. What an Epic game. There's so much content that you can just wander around forever finding new things. Highly recommend, but it's a shame it needs mods to really bring everything out.
I bought it hoping it would make me love Skyrim again but its just broken. Other than the fact that you need mods just to make it not complete garbage; it wont save. I have tried all the online fixes I could find and still nothing. Still charging full price for this garbage is also ridiculous.
