The Dark Tower is the third & final game in this 3-game series. The story began with ‘The Curse of Feldar Vale’, continued with ‘Mystery at Morgoth’ & concluded with ‘The Dark Tower’. If you have any interest in tactical RPG’s then I highly recommend you play this series. I’ve had a blast! You can export your party from the conclusion of one game to the next, so it is really just one game in three parts. The story just continues from one game to the next. If you play the game carefully, checking out each monster’s stats, lore, etc, then you can easily put in over 100 hours on the series. For the paltry few dollars each game costs, if that is not value for money, then I would like to know what is? The games each have so much detail they leave most RPG’s for dead. Right from the start, rolling the characters for your party, offers so many choices to allocate your character points. Page after page of options. You can really make characters you want and they can even be dual-class or even triple-class – right from the start. How many other RPG games allow you to do this? Once you get into the game, the detail continues. Every monster has an incredible amount of detail. Just click on it and you can see all of its stats, plus a lore page which gives you even more specific info on its abilities, etc. You don’t have to fail fight after fight with constant save reloads to try to figure out how to beat the monster. You can simply read its info & then plan your attack strategies accordingly. With careful thinking you should be able to win each fight without needing to reload. The attack strategies, to me, is what sets the games apart from most other RPG’s. In the options, if you allow your characters to move after their action, then the game can become incredibly tactical. For instance, if you have a tank player, then you can allow the weaker players to move in, have their attack, then move back behind the tank. Each round is like a mini chess game, working out which player moves in which order for maximum attack & protection. You can even gain height advantages in fights by climbing on furniture. Some monsters have permanent stat-reduction attacks, so you need to devise some other strategies to kill them without permanent loss of stats. With the huge variety of monsters, you will need to be coming up with different strategies for many of the fights. To all of this incredible detail you can add secret doors & false walls to find, hidden chests & concealed treasures to find & puzzle rooms to solve. The three games are true RPG games at their best. If you have any interest in RPG games, then do yourself a favour & buy all three games in the series. They are great value for money & will keep your mind working for many, many hours. Have fun!
The entire series is a must buy. If you like D&D style games then it's for you. The game is incredibly deep which is hard to tell from the store page. You won't find more hours of enjoyment for another RPG at this price on steam.
This is a huge improvement over The Curse of Feldar Vale, but I am not sure why. I am really getting much more into the system this time around. I am giving this a big thumbs up. It's inexpensive at full price, let alone on sale. It's a true DnD RPG like Baldur's Gate with lot's of fun building your party, clearing the maps, progressing through the story, etc. I would like to suggest the Dev adds at least an additional save armor set (like the save weapon sets) as I have a Half Elf Rogue/Archer who is my main searcher, trap disarmer, lock picker, etc., and I have to constantly switch back and forth between his "searching" set and his "archery fighting" set. In the town's shop, it would be nice if we could cycle through our party (i.e., Next) like all the other screens after purchasing something and adding to inventory, instead I have to save/close and then advance through the party (I may not be explaining this perfectly, but there is a screen situation where you can't cycle through your party that's irritating as it makes comparing party members to see who needs what difficult). I tried to set up my party using all 40 points, I used 39 on 4 party members (something like Level 9 Human Warrior, Level 9 Human Cleric, Level 9 Elf Archer, Level 6 Half Elf Rogue/Archer) and somehow ended up with an extra left over point or two, so I got a fifth part member, a level one (or two) Elf Mage. He's squishy but it's been fun trying to keep him alive, lol, he was only useful for giving the coupe de grace to an unconscious 1-health-point-left near death enemy, but now that he is level 6 he is starting to contribute with some AoE damage spells. In retrospect, due to almost always fighting in tight corridors and doorways, I am thinking a party of 4 with perhaps all multi-class at same level (5/5 x 4 = 40?). You only need one Warrior tank going down a hall in front, but you also need a Cleric for healing, so you end up with another tank which is useful in rooms, then I found that the archers work quiet well from the 3rd and 4th row. Or maybe a Cleric tank and 3 archers who can almost always make one-shot kill. Anyway, that's the plan for my next play through. lol Try it, you'll like it!
Followed all four of the games. Enjoyed each one more as they got increasingly better. Really enjoyed the tactical aspects. Would like to see hex grids instead the the squares, and it is pretty hard to level up unless you keep your character traits simple. The designers were available to help out when I got stuck. If they come out with more, I will definitely acquire them.
I've enjoyed all three games in this series. Great tech support for when I stumbled on a game-breaking bug.
