great game! SCARY A.F!! worth every penny. the vibe is spine chilling cant wait to see what you make next
"The Cost of Bliss" offers a chilling horror experience where players must evade a relentless monster. The game mechanics ingeniously incorporate sound, making clever use of puddles to create noise and lure the monster, adding a unique layer of tension and strategy. The visual aesthetic draws inspiration from classic games like Doom and other older generations, immersing players in a nostalgic yet terrifying atmosphere. With its innovative sound mechanics and retro-inspired visuals, "The Cost of Bliss" delivers a truly immersive and spine-tingling gaming experience unlike any other.
Short and simple game where you search rooms while there’s a monster after you. The game reveals all its mechanics right away, making you either want to play it or delete it within five minutes. Instead of a linear story and stages like the walking simulator type found in most indie horror games, this one has you hiding with a monster hunting you around. The goal is to search rooms for what one character wants. This is made more difficult by the limited light source. Although you can see in complete darkness, you won't find anything unless you have matches. These are dispersed across the stage and are the sole method to see where you're going or find stuff. However, a single match lasts only a short time. Another problem is that a creature roams the corridors. It can hear when you're running or stepping into stuff that makes a noise. It's best to play with headphones so you can hear when the creature is nearby. Unfortunately, the mechanics are not very good. Even before it sees you, the creature starts running after you. It's difficult to avoid it because it moves at the same speed as you do. The game suggests hiding inside a room, but the creature knows where you are and can kill you even if you are crouching under a bench. Getting caught is a problem because you’ll have to mash a button to skip through the intro text. This shows up each time and becomes bothersome. The only way to succeed is to follow the creature's patrol patterns. It always moves along the same path, so you can wait till it walks by and then immediately follow it. If you simply walk and crouch over puddles, the creature will not notice you.
The Cost Of Bliss is a short but incredibly intense horror game where you must complete simple tasks for a mysterious figure while avoiding a large man in a hospital. Pros - Very tense with big consequences for death - Excellent sound design - A good story that is genuinely disturbing Cons - Controls are very clunky - Difficulty may put some off Overall if you want a short and adrenaline pumping stealth horror experience this comes highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this one!
I would describe The Cost Of Bliss as a solid horror experience. Clear intuitive objectives that fit nicely within the narrative and theme of situation the protagonist finds themselves in. I really enjoyed the short, grotesque and yet uniquely stylised animated cut scenes, they were a really nice touch. Especially as they were used sparingly, increasing their impact. Gameplay overall is simple, navigate to here, collect this, navigate back but with the additional of managing matches, trying to remember the hallway layout, keeping noise to a minimum and avoiding the entity was juggling act that really kept me engaged. Personally I would have preferred the game to be in actual 4:3 rather then a perfectly square view port but really the difference there is pretty insignificant and didn't effect my enjoyment of the game. A setting to change mouse speed/acceleration would have also been nice but once again this didn't cause an issue.
Mechanics are quite simple: Complete tasks for a creepy and mysterious man while a monster wanders the dark hallways with nothing but quick burning matches to light your way....but I'll be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if this isn't one of the most effectively disturbing and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up games I've played in recent memory. It leaves a lot of room for thought about how much, if any, of the events are actually even happening at all or only exist in the mind of a man broken by his addiction. https://youtu.be/VvM7mvN67ww
Complete A Doctor's Tasks As A Monster Roams the Hall
2024 may have only just begun, but a few games have already been released that I’ve been really excited about playing. One is the first horror game of the year, The Cost of Bliss. After looking into it, I thought I’d give it a go. In the shoes of an unnamed character, we are a man who is forced to spend time inside a psych ward as he withdraws from addiction. Not much else is known about our character, but as you play through, you meet a man who appears to be a doctor, asking you to do some favors. He promises to help us ease our pain, so we must do what he says. However, be careful not to get caught as a creature wanders the halls, searching for you. Do you have what it takes to complete his unnerving tasks without getting caught? The choice is yours. Firstly, I am generally not good with tense horror games (i.e., ones that feature roaming enemies where you must stealth around). Many times, I tend to hide in spots and stay longer than I should. But that tactic of hiding really helped me while I was playing this game. I could map out the creature’s movement patterns when I hid under benches and tables. That way, I could do the tasks more easily without worrying about the monster too much. It was also beneficial to wear headphones to listen to the footsteps. While the gameplay was almost repetitive, it wasn’t too bad, and I enjoyed it. The overall experience of this game was quite enjoyable, with its story and atmospheric setting. Although I may have been tense throughout, I still had fun.
4 out of 5 ★★★★☆!
