About
THE CARIBOU TRAIL - Home before the leaves fall, they thought.
Far from home, Fisher leaves his quiet harbor town in Newfoundland to join the British war effort with his friends. They expect a short-lived adventure full of tales to bring back home.
What awaits them is not glory, but dirt, loss… and a touch of madness. The quiet gestures that hold a regiment together, the impossible choices, the weight of survival and... well, dubious stews no one back home would dare to call edible.
The Caribou Trail is a visceral, first-person narrative experience about a band of friends sent on some of the most unlikely missions of the Great War.
Inspired by real testimonies, The Caribou Trail blends history with fiction to portray a rarely explored front of WWI: Gallipoli, from the landing to the final evacuation.
Cut through barbed wire in no man’s land on a desperate reconnaissance mission, silence a sniper holding the line, and make noise during a chaotic evacuation. Each step is experienced through your own eyes.
Yet this is not about winning the war, it’s about enduring it. Explore the back lines, feel the weight of anticipation, stumble through the trenches, reclaim the dog tags of fallen comrades, and share stories with those who still have the strength to speak. Sit by the fire, share ghostly tales (that may or may not be true), and find warmth around the campfire.
When the time comes, you may choose to pull the trigger… or not. Every gesture brings you closer to the men who laugh beside you… and fall before you.
There is no score. No kill count. Only resilience, fleeting friendship, and the fragile hope of making it home.
War may take everything, but it also builds bonds.
You and your companions are not hardened soldiers, but ordinary men: fishermen, dreamers, storytellers; cooking fish’n’brews in battered pots, laughing at bad jokes, and clinging to one another when silence grows too heavy.
In the chaos, these small rituals become lifelines - reminders of who you are, and of who's fighting alongside you. What begins as survival becomes brotherhood, etched into memory long after the guns fall silent.
Gordon - Insufferable and lovable. Always the center of attention. He'll crack a joke or roast you at the worst moment possible, but he'll be there for you no matter what.
Lonnie - A whimsical, dreamy kid who doesn't belong, but still strives to do his best. What he lacks in military prowess, he compensates with his warmth and spirit. He'll even share a good spooky story or two to change the mood…
Fisher - You are the middle brother, constantly defusing (or participating in) Gordo and Lon's bickering. In the face of the war's horrors, you define Fisher's willingness to see things as they are, or instead delve into superstitious escapism.
These are the faces you will remember long after Gallipoli.
When night falls, the line between reality and imagination blurs.
Are the shadows in the trenches just tricks of the firelight, or spirits drawn to the living? In The Caribou Trail, folklore and psychological horror intertwine, echoing how soldiers made sense of a world that no longer did.
What you find may not change history, but it might change you.

Very well put together story, beautiful design and world build, and an amazing soundtrack.
Great game one of the best ive played the only problems is that (spoilers) the ptsd section at the end lasted too long and the game was a bit to short. Other than that this game was great I do reccomend
I'm not that much of a narrative game enjoyer (except for telltale's games ofc but thats not my point) I went in there not expecting much from a game that looked like it was made using fortnite's character models, however the pacing, dialogue and characters in general got me hooked instantly, from the Jacky' lanterns from the rowing section showing some of Lonie and Gordo's personality traits to us cooking by our campfire and telling stories from back home, i didnt shoot a single time in this game except at the firing range and you'd think "In a world war one game ? " yes, and im very happy that its not the shooty shooty kinda game it makes you feel more human . *Spoilers ahead tho* Okay good perfect now for the spoilers : Lonie's death really hit me, i didnt expect to get this attached to the kid so fast, after only two hours of gameplay i loved this guy as if i spent time in the trenches with him aswell, it was so sudden too and during diner when you think you're safe, you have cooked two or three times by then, sitting by the campfire you felt safe, telling stories, joking about Canadian jokes yknow and then he falls you can barely see the light of the gunshot but you understand instantly what just happened . This may be because i am at a low point in my life but i paused the game for a good 20 minutes because i was crying, then the rage came in when Gordo said "lets go kill that guy" but, i couldnt pull the trigger because i knew the shooter, it was the same Turk that gave you the dog tags in the mission before so i felt some sort of connection and a duty not to shoot him . I dont really know what else i could write, after Lonie's death i was sure Gordo would die aswell but it never happened, this looming feeling of dread that after every step he could fall aswell without me being able to do anything . 9/10, i didnt find the spices, Johnny turk kept them .
Short, but very fun game with a lot of heart. Worth the playthrough.
I can quite happily say this is completely worth the price and time it advertises, although the cooking stages are sometimes repetitive you do always get a meaningful and deep story in between from Lonnie and Gordon. I've only had the game for 3 days and completed it but I can already see myself coming back because there always seemed like there was more to do. My final point is the story and it does not disappoint, I wont spoil anything because the entire experience is a lot better like that but the entire final 2 missions are some of the greatest experiences I have had with an indie game for a very very long time. This game can no doubt, 100% be counted as one of my favourite indie games this year but also one of my favourite WW1 games OF ALL TIME. I hope this helps you and if you want a Historical story with meaningful characters and a story that actually moves you, get The Caribou Trail and I wish you have as great a time as I did, thanks for reading
Great storyline, made for 4 hours of first-time gameplay!
So this is mixed one. I recommend it but it's not for everyone and has its issues. If you are coming into this wanting action, it's not for you... If you are coming in wanting a good story... It's not for you... If you like history and want to learn more about a Canadian unit and what their trench was like then it's for you. I'll start with the bad first - you don't build a relationship with the unit. It tries but doesn't really succeed with the exception of the 2 other main characters. - nothing ages so you don't feel the affects of war other than the trench gets larger. - since you never go over the top in a battle you never really see or feel the devastation of war on your unit. You only ever see some of this is you keep going to the cemetery and you see it grow - voice acting isn't great... But it's indie Ok the good - tons of history -tons of hidden items, it rewards you to explore -tons of dialogue scattered around -trench expands as the war goes on -tons of extra things to pick up and read even more history about - gives you the illusion of choice - a few shocking moment -follows the unit from start to finish on the campaign The game plays as a ghost story. I think it would have benefited more from some combat scenarios to see the impact and maybe have you connect more with people or the unit as a whole. If you want a ww1 games, you won't like this, but if you want a living history experience- then you'll get your money's worth. I explored everything and took my time, it took me about 5 hours
A wonderful journey through the horrors of war felt like a war poem. What an amazing game
