A dive into your own and gorgeous viking saga
For me, this game felt almost like an animated comic book. The hand-drawn art is by far one of the best out there. As the story progresses, you are met with increasingly hard decisions that impact the future of your characters. Concerning the tactical turn-based combat, it is well designed and becomes very challenging on higher difficulties. It is as good as it looks and ages very well. It's compelling and dramatic, with a great soundtrack. I score this all-time classic a well deserved 9/10.
I played this years ago (1 and 2) but never got around to finish the 3rd and cap the series off, so I decided to replay from the beginning to get the complete experience. That being said, revisiting The Banner Saga has been a really special experience and I reminded of just how unique a game like this is and I have yet to see anything like it since. Its sad to see where the studio has gone since then, buts thats neither here nor there. The story is top tier and you feel the weight of every choice you made. Combat is not super deep but I'm not a deep guy so I enjoyed it. I've been playing games my whole life and used to play things on the hardest difficulty but after learning to value my time more and realizing that its more FUN not to die over and over (I'm talking about YOU random grunt enemies one-shotting me in Give Me God of War mode) I'm okay with normal difficulty nowadays. Well, for Banner Saga I took it one step further and went to easy. I'm not ashamed. I had a great time and will continue to play as such on the sequels. I'm here for the atmosphere and story anyways. First time around I went with Rook, but seeing how he was in the second game made me feel so bad for him, so this time around I went with Alette! I'm rooting for you. Stay strong kid. 4.5/5 game. 5 - Perfect 4.5 - Nearly flawless 4 - Well above average 3.5 - Above Average 3 - Average 2.5 - Not good or bad. Meh 2 - Dissapointing 1.5 - Bad 1 - Really Bad 0.5 - Disastrous

One of the most beauitful, heart-rending games I've ever played. Fun, too, lol
What a beautiful experience! The art and music of this game are incredible! They bring this world to life in such a convincing way. The story is bleak, yet beautiful, and really sets up such a captivating tale. I look forward to playing the second and third iterations. The game play is pretty simple, yet fun enough to have a really good time throughout the entire experience and the more storyline/choice driven aspects make for a nice touch that brings it all to life. This unique and beautiful experience is absolutely worth a play through. Это... хорошая игра. Которая учит нас никому не доверять.
The pace is a little slow, but the story is pretty good and there is enough strategy in the combat and repercussions to the decision making to keep you engaged. These days the game can be had on sale for nearly nothing and for those deep discounts, it is 9/10. At full price it is still recommended but so easy to find on sale.
The Banner Saga is a completely original blend of visual novel, tactics game, and RPG. The interplay between the narrative choices you make and the tactical battles is very interesting. Just as you feel you get into a rhythm, you lose one of your party members, either permanently or temporarily, and need to adjust accordingly. The game manages to break away from any min-maxing, as you never know how long characters will be around, and when they leave, they take everything you invested in them. The story itself is well told, and the beautiful graphics and music really paint a vivid picture. It definitely managed to hit me emotionally, which is pretty rare for a video game. I’m looking forward to playing the second game!
When people talk about games with choices that mattered or isometric strategic combat that rocks, this is the game that I think of and compare others too. One of the best sagas and this is the best among the three. May those who come after remember us
Really beautiful game, story and art is nice, the ending really puts everything into question. You may have a strategy with your characters that works, but once you reach the final battle, that combination may be useless, requiring you to start the game from scratch to develop a meta build. The first time I played the game I had to go back and build a better team. Not a great design mechanic, and I don't like how I have to keep that in mind as I play through the game. The game is more about the story and art anyways, so I don't see why you need such a difficult boss in the end. The game is good, but I think the boss at the end can sour the experience. I've beat it twice now, but its stupidly frustrating and pulls you out of the story that has built up to that point. Once you've beat the boss, the emotions at the end are kind of wasted, as you're just glad to get out, speed through the credits and walk away for a bit. It does the overall experience a disservice.
