Well... it comes with the original version running stably in SCUMMVM, so I can recommend that. But the 25th anniversary version is not good. It's smeared with an ugly smoothing filter. Most (but not all) of the house transitions are speed up to hyper speed and look ridiculous, like I'm fast forwarding a speed run. And the game barely runs on Steam Deck. After an hour of trying different proton versions (proton-GE-9-13 seems to work the best along with the command line options " "), I still had to boot to Windows to get past the microscope puzzle without crashing. It's a bad release without any love or passion put into it. In 2025, the age of AI, I would love to see this remastered again. Use upscaling on the assets and then touch them up to get them to true 4k, and generate more frames between the existing ones so the transitions feel more ethereal like the higher frame rate CDI version. That's really all that needs to be done for this game. It's not that long and there isn't a ton of assets, so it seems like this would be doable.
I played this game around ...2001? Got as far as the pantry puzzle and was hooked. Unfortunately, after a house fire, homelessness and an unintentional homicide or three, I wasn't able to finish it. For 2.5 decades could never get it to work. It didn't like newer computers. I thought about the game a lot, as it inspired my love of "mystery" games. I've played/beaten all the Nancy Drews and Sherlock Holmeses and was STOKED to find this again on Steam. It's slow. The navigation leaves a lot to be desired. The constant interruptions to the gameplay with each voiceover make me want to rip my hair out. Some of the puzzles are way too easy and others ... I still don't know how I solved the house puzzle. You have to keep going back to check everything because things will appear randomly after cutscenes with no rhyme or reason. The story is well weird. But it's a great game. The nostalgia is hitting hard, so I could be biased, but my gerbil played and loved it too and that thing is like a week old, so I don't think it's *just* the trip down memory lane that makes it enjoyable. At any rate, it gave me something to do for the evening and it was only about ten bucks. I will probably replay it once I forget all the puzzle solutions. (PS: I don't have a gerbil and the housefire and etc didn't happen, but every other word of this review is true as far as I know. Have fun!)

It's a good and fun puzzle game. My favorite part about it is the fact that it is not easy and hard on some short parts of the game. I would recommend it a lot if you have like 3 to 5 hours to spare.
This is a great game. I have played it for years, although I have not gotten very far with some of the puzzles. However, now I am having trouble loading it. I get to the menu, but when I click Load and select my name, i just get a black screen, and a dialog box says that The 7th Guest is not responding.
Adictivo y muy entretenido, grandes recuerdos. Recomendadisimo, si te gustan los retos a nivel puzzle e investigación es tu juego!
Only reason I got this was because I remembered trying to play it on my parents computer decades ago and being unable to beat it since I was too young. While it was an interesting nostalgia trip, the acting is terrible, the gameplay is buggy, and the constant voice clips blocking your play after half the moves on some puzzles is painful. Had I not come to this game wearing nostalgia glasses I would have refunded pretty early on.
The game is extremely buggy and full of glitches. I do not remember having any problems with the game when it first came out 25 years ago, as a matter of fact it was my favorite game. Now it's frustrating as all hell.
My dad let me help him with the puzzles when I was a kid and now I've experienced the full game. It was everything I dreamed it would be and utterly charming in a horrific way! I wish puzzle games were still as challenging and required actual puzzle skills. I loved 7th Guest, cheers!
If you like games like "The 7th guest" and "dark souls" you will like this game. Loved playing Billiards.
Get boy Tad
I played it numerous times from the CD that was included with my Creative SB16, on my old 486 I had overclocked to 100MHz, as a youth (using a walk-through I found on irc->ftp server); and then played it again a few years ago on here, yet somehow didn't get the cheese for the piano puzzle! I am now reinstalling it again because its worth playing again, and again...
