Journey to the Center of the Earth
Adventure game from 2003. Ariane, a determined photojournalist, finds herself caught in what could be the biggest sensation of her life through a twist of fate. While we're working on location for a travel magazine in Iceland, a sudden rockfall changes everything. (Developer) An old school point & click game. Well, this game is already old and not retro. With a really old graphic. 1280*960 max. This bad graphics was to be expected, but that doesn't change the fact that the picture is really bad. There is no help in the game. But a guide in English. However, there is a problem right on the first playable map. You need a light source to enter a tunnel. But this only happened after the third attempt. So you search the map again every time to see what you missed. It was only with the help of the guide that I was able to find out that I had done everything correctly and only the shutter button wasn't working. This kind of thing is very annoying as this programming error could have been fixed ages ago. So annoyed about this, I now tried the second card and realized that the poor image quality of the first card is even worse here. Which made me stop altogether. When I can no longer see my surroundings properly because everything is blurry and muddy. If that doesn't bother you, we recommend taking a look at the 58% negative reviews first. Because this game has tons of problems. No recommendation from me.
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Also sucht man jedesmal die Karte erneut ab, was man übersehen hat. I just finished the game and can easily say that this game is truly awful and is easily the stupidest game I have ever played (and I’ve been playing PC games since 1988). Why then did I even bother to finish? Very simple. I played several of the Frogwares studio Sherlock Holmes games some years ago and quite enjoyed them. And in anticipation of replaying all of the Holmes games I decided to play all the PC games made by Frogwares in order, I already played "Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Mummy", Frogwares first game, and "Journey to the center of the Earth" was their second game, created in 2003. Unless you want to play all the Frogwares games, I strongly recommend against playing Journey. The graphics are tolerable (considering it's from 2003), and the overall story is somewhat harmless and charming. But the dialog is incredibly stupid, and the voice acting is unbelievably bad. It's on the level of what you would expect from a computer generated voice that you get when you call a company and wind up in an automated phone answering hell. And the movement mechanics of the character you play, Ariane, are terrible. Much of the time you cannot just click on a spot on the screen and have her walk there. You have to do some pixel hunting until the cursor turns into a pair of shoes and then click. And the camera source is frequently changing so although you can see where she has to go, you can't always figure out how to get there. You sometimes have to walk around objects in back of you to get to the one that's in front of you. To finish the game (which took me 14 and a half hours), I frequently had to use two walkthroughs that are both excellent. The first is text only and the link is: text walkthrough The second is a serious of video clips on YouTube, where each one takes you through a short section of the game, and the link is: video waltkthrough At times (when it wasn't too frustrating) I enjoyed the game because I was laughing at the stupidity of the dialog or the nature of all the fetch quests and "fix-it" quests. Definitely "laughing at" and not "laughing with", as the game does not try to be funny. This game is sometimes compared to two other point-and-click adventure games that came out at around the same time, Syberia (2002) and The Longest Journey (2000). I played both of them, and they are both vastly superior to this one.
one of the most tedious, user-hostile, cryptic games I've ever played. a walking simulator where the character doesn't understand how to walk. IS THAT A TRICERATOPS?
This was an absolute joy, an unexpected gem in the rough. Certainly has a Longest Journey vibe and the story was interesting enough to stick it through, with some tricky minigame puzzles. The only issues worth mentioning are 4 hotspots dont highlight, 1 audio puzzle isn't in the game despite the dialogue saying you have to do it. no log on what your tasks are, but thats minor since you can ask NPCs questions again if needed. The issues aside the game is fantastic retro feeling experience, and one I wish I'd found years ago so chill music and so pretty for the resolution.
unfinished game. Buggy and the textures are wrong. Also, the last puzzle of the game is unfinishable.
Total garbage !!!
Tried playing this a while ago and encountered many bugs so gave up. Just tried to replay it to see if now fixed, can't even get it to start properly. As there are no achievements there's no incentive to waste time trying to get it to work. In the bin it goes.
Moving from one place/scene to another was, oftentimes, rather hard to do because of the pixel hunting and the cursor not always changing to indicate when you can exit a scene or nor. I actually even missed 2 scenes altogether due to this. There is also the ridiculous amount of back and forth walking from one scene to another in the game as well, with some being just scenery with nothing to really interact with (parts of the mushroom forest and the bridges for example). This is fine to expand the world and give us a scope of how large it is, but i'd argue that after the first time, it just becomes annoying and does not really add anything to the world-building itself. At the end of the game you're left with a lot of items still in your inventory as well. Some, such as the passes, just take up space needlessly as you never have to click on them even once during the entire game... I also found it rather odd how you had to use the computer on collected documents to even see what was written on them most of the time, doing this when the character is told they need to solve an equation makes sense as the computer would be quicker at such a task, but for just reading a short message? I guess this was done largely because the laptop is where all the documents are stored, but it would have been better to just add the documents automatically to the laptop instead of having the player need to interact with them in the inventory first, it would have saved around 2 clicks per document. The story, honestly, was rather mediocre. The premise is the only interesting part of it. I'd say there are only around 3 intelligent characters in the entire game. The villain, the giantess healer and Adam. Aside from Adam all the characters are very forgettable, but the only reason Adam himself is not as forgettable is because of how often you interact with him. All of the characters are mediocre, just as the story itself. Overall, I would not recommend this game to others, as I sis not enjoy playing it myself, but, at the same time, from what I understood, a lot of parts were either cut out entirely or altered with regards to the steam version of the game, so maybe the original version of it is better. The reason I decided to buy this game is because I remember playing a Demo version of it when I was a lot younger and enjoying it a lot. Sadly, I regret buying it.
One of Frogwares' earliest games, this is an interesting, if flawed, game. Loosely based on Jules Verne's novel of the same name, this game allows a more modern take on the lands beneath the surface of the Earth.
