Tetris® Forever

A story about one guy making one of the most legendary games ever and bunch of leeches trying to get rich off of it. Mostly boring business talk, barely anything about the game design. Includes very small selection of Tetris, most of which are very laggy, glitchy and broken. It does not even include the most iconic NES and GameBoy games. Only couple versions are good and playable. Definitely not worth the price. I could suggest only on deep sale for about 5€.

How do you release a historic collection of Tetris games WITHOUT the NES and GameBoy versions? I mean... what's even the point then? Those are still the definitive versions of classic Tetris. Bizarre. Gotta admit, I had just assumed those would obviously be in here and they were the only reason I bought this. Definitely my mistake, I should have done more research, but still baffling and I kinda regret my purchase, since none of the games that actually are in here are enjoyable to me.

Tetris Forever has a great amount of museum pieces that, although not for me, really add to the value of Tetris Forever. The new mode is good, and it's nice having access to some of the older iterations. Overall you can't go too wrong with Tetris as a whole, but when Tetris Effect is available on Steam, I wouldn't say Tetris Forever is the 'Go To' Tetris game. Good overall and well worth your time, just not the most worthy your time.

Digital Eclipse strikes again with 'Tetris Forever' in another documentary game collection hybrid following of course the story of a legend with no introduction needed, Tetris. Go through the story on how Alexey Pajitnov came up with the idea behind the legendary game, how Henk Rogers brought the game to Japan, and how the game was brought all over the world in a confusing mess due to the lack of licensing. You also have access to 21 different titles here including a new title 'Tetris Time Warp.' I don't have much to say about the documentary itself as it's a pretty good watch, my only real thing is I do feel like Henk Rogers kind of overshadows everything, which I understand since BPS was kind of the main power behind fixing a lot of the fiasco, but Alexey Pajitnov deserved to be shown off more imo. And the way the timeline and everything presented here is a little off, they will cutoff some spots awkwardly where it feels like they want to keep talking about a specific topic just to abruptly end and they will also copy text word for word right from a video you just watched into 3-5 different pictures which would be fine if it was branched downwards instead of being on the main timeline as it made me multiple times go 'Wait, I literally just heard this.' just brings a weird flow. Other than this it was cool seeing all sorts of Japanese ads or 3D scans of Tetris boxes, etc, it's all cool, I just want to present some of the weirdness to presentation is all. I have not played every single game in the collection here either because I didn't want to play something like Igo or play a different or worse version of the base Tetris, etc. There are 21 different games so I'm sure someone will find something they like albeit the NES and Gameboy versions of Tetris are missing if that is something you want, this might be because Nintendo has them on their NSO service. I was gonna give my thoughts on all the games here, but 21 is a bit too much to list here so I'll just give highlights. They give you a replica of the very first version of Tetris, the build Alexey made on the Electronika 60 back in 1984, like yes it's very simple, but it's most certainly not the worst version here imo and it's cool from a historical piece. Hatris is probably the best spinoff as it still takes a simple idea, this time to match stacks of hats, but makes a solid play still. Super Tetris on DOS is an interesting idea as instead of building up you are trying to destroy pieces that are left to get to the bottom of the level. Welltris is a cool spin on a "3D" like Tetris experience, but I could not get used to controlling the game, skill issues amirite? Super Tetris 2 + BomBliss might be the best take on the original Tetris experience just as it combines things from previous Gameboy, NES, and I believe Famicom to make a solid experience out of the box. Tetris Time Warp is a very cool idea, essentially every 10 lines you complete you are given a special tetromino that can either shift pieces to make clearing lines easier or by allowing you to warp in time going through 3 different eras 1984 to 1993, in doing so it changes some things not too much but the GB version getting rid of hard drops or the smooth dropping from the 84 version, etc, it's very simple in approach and can feel "budget" but it's got a cool idea and plays very well. I think the price of $35 is more than worth it when looking at everything included here because not only is it a very good historical piece or presentation it also just gives you a very good game collection here, yes it's odd not to include the NES and Gameboy versions of the game, but I think including some of the more obscure titles and even spinoffs makes up for it. I got the game for $3 on a sale, but I would've been more than happy to have paid more, such a good collection.

I saw that Tetris Forever was on sale, and I picked it up.  The Good: - It's neat to have the very first versions of Tetris in an easily accessible format. - The interface is very controller friendly, especially with systems that didn't originally have controllers. - It's cool to see games that were originally Japan only finally come out worldwide. - It's got some cool videos of Alexei Pajitnov talking about making Tetris - The new Tetris game that's part of this is pretty neat, having pieces that transport you briefly into older versions of the game for bonuses.  The Mid: - I get that rights are hard to get, and there was no way Nintendo was going to let you have any of their Tetris versions, but you couldn't get Sega to give you their Genesis port? Come on. - What is your obsession with Bombliss? It's.... okay I guess, it just doesn't scratch the same itch that Tetris does. - The go game didn't have to be there but cool I guess.  The Bad: - ♥♥♥♥ Henk Rogers forever for locking up what should be a cut and dry game anybody can make as your own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ royal property. Tetris *will* last forever, and it will be no thanks to you and your litigious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a company. - As such, a fair bit of it is a partial hagiography of Henk Rogers and the travails he went through to get Tetris for himself. - Why the ♥♥♥♥ did you include Hatris not *once*, not *twice,* **but** ***three ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ times!?*** In short: wait for a deeper discount. It's alright for what it is, but poorer for what it could have been.

Hope achievement creator will be burned in hell, for making 14 easy and 1 abismal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ achievement that near imposible to get

I'm 42 years old, when I was a toddler my Mum bought me a Nintendo and I use to play Tetris a lot! Thank you for unlocking childhood memories! Wow! I really never knew how far back Tetris went -- even beyond Nintendo!? I've always thought it was made by Nintendo. Instead, it was created by Alexey Pajitnov from the Soviet Union in the early days 1980s while studying Academdy of Science at the Computing Institute. An amazing storyline to learn about the history of the game and the original version from the Elektronika, 60.. Thanks Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers for such a masterpeice creation and contribution to the world.
