Extremely niche response here, but as a winemaker the whole process here is garbage. I know you don't play all games for its realism, but this is so far from that for me that it's unplayable and illogical. Sorry, but no good
Twenty hours in this game. Twenty hours of watching my careful plans get CRUSHED by an unfair random weather generator. I NEVER went past year three without going bankrupt. It is my contention that there has never been a player, in the history of this game, ever play an extended career without running into the savage and unfair RNG. Buyer beware. I have come back to it many times, played for a couple of hours, and gotten crushed. Again. And again, and again. And again. Save yourself the anger and frustration, and look elsewhere.
I got some good play on this game for its price, but I don't know that I'll really return to it. Fun enough for tycoon game enjoyers, but the UI is rough and there are some quirks to the play that are hella inconsistent-- as other players have noted, money really seems to do its own thing and some of the optional quests/challenges just aren't rewarding enough. Probably fun if you loveee farming sims and tycoon games and have a few extra bucks to spare.
看在价格的份上就不打差评了,但这中文翻译到底是个什么垃圾?一进教程就蚌埠住了,vingris翻译成口红葡萄酒,得结合英文才能看懂这写得什么。被有中文骗进来的玩家快跑
I wish there was a "mixed" option for reviews, but in the end I just can't with a good conscience recommend this to the general public. It's especially sad seeing the reviews from 2017 declaring that the game is being worked on and the bugs will be fixed, when in 2024 it's abundantly clear this hasn't and won't happen. But, if you're like me, hardcore into any kind of managerial game, and happy to absolutely micromanage every moment of gameplay without the possibility of automation or letting up for a second without risking severe backsteps or possibly your whole save, Terroir is pretty okay. The game is clearly built on a fantastic idea, but the execution is lacking so incredibly badly. The map works, I think the actual wine making system itself is fantastic, I love that levelling up actually takes multiple years (it keeps the game from dragging out in endgame for way too long, a common issue in managerials), and in general there are so many small things dotted out in this game that makes me think that yeah, with some more development, this could have been a titan in this niche. But. *But.* This game is terribly balanced. There is a random weather system which affects how fast or slow your grapes mature, and there is nothing you can do to affect it. Your only option is to cut foliage - but if you cut too much, and get hit by a month of clear skies (which the game sometimes calls sunny weather, for a bit of inconsistency to confuse new players) your grapes will overmature super fast. Lategame you can get the ability to grow back foliage, but it grows it to "optimal" (which basically means "grapes will not mature anymore", not optimal) meaning that if a single second of rain hits, they will de-mature. So if you don't cut it, you risk the grapes undermaturing, and if you cut, you risk it overmaturing. This means a lot of crops will randomly die or make bad wine. To make things worse, you have no forecast nor any way to *get* a forecast to help you plan even a little bit, and with how sensitive many of the vines are, this means you're pretty much stuck with the basic ones unless you want to micromanage every second of the growth season or savescum until you get a good year and they don't die from a fungus infestation. There is absolutely no way to excuse this abysmal reliance on pure RNG, with no way to upgrade your setup or in any way protect yourself even in the lategame, in a game like this. In the end, you can have the worst setup in the world but make a hundred thousand dollars if the weather's good, or have a perfect vineyard ruined by the weather. If this is meant to be some kind of statement on the difficulty of making a living in modern agriculture, that should be made clear. As it is now, it just seems like bad design. The finances make no sense - I want to point out, though, that unlike what other reviews have said, you will never go bankrupt if your money is positive. You go bankrupt if you have -10 000, so if you have 15k, but your expenses are 25k, you'll go bankrupt in the blink of an eye. The problem is that you have no way of knowing from month to month what your incomes and expenses are (there is a financial overview, but it's hilariously bad - it told me I had made a negative million dollars in a year when I'd gone up 700k) so any time you dip below 30k it's a bit of a gamble. There is no warning, there's no backup save, there's absolutely nothing - suddenly you're just booted out to a "game over" screen. Your income also doesn't come on the turn of the month, unlike expenses, but the exact point of the month before when you made the decision to sell. So you need to remember at what stages of the month every piece of income will arrive, and keep track of how many months you can count on a certain wine selling before it runs out, and plan your sales accordingly to hopefully make sure you'll have more than whatever your expenses will be at the end of the month. ...See what I mean with the absolute micromanagement thing? It's such a shame, because somewhere in the code there is a game I really enjoy. With a rebalance and bugfixing, I believe Terroir could be an absolute slam dunk for people like me, but I cannot with a good conscience recommend it in its current state. Not without knowing if you, the person reading this, is a hardcore management fan or not. I'm sorry, I just can't.
The frustration was so bad that I coded this tool to calculate the best ways to product 5 star wine. As a designer and software tester, I have to be honest: Terroir has a long way to go before it feels market-ready. The user experience is rough from the start. The cursor is frustrating to use, imprecise, sluggish, and extremely unpleasant. This really needs to be addressed by the developers as a priority. The tutorial system is another pain point. It’s intrusive and difficult to disable, making the early gameplay more irritating than helpful. On top of that, many game elements go unexplained, and the lack of tooltips makes learning the mechanics a guessing game rather than an engaging experience. Overall, the game feels incomplete. The visuals are bland and well below the standard I’d expect from a title themed around winemaking, a subject that should be rich, atmospheric, and visually appealing. Instead, the presentation falls flat. There are also a number of options shown in the UI that don’t seem to function or serve any purpose, adding to the feeling of an unfinished product. In its current state, Terroir feels like an unpolished concept rather than a fully realized game. With significant improvements to usability, clarity, visuals, and overall polish, it could become something worthwhile, but right now, it simply isn’t there. Go an look at Chocolatier® as inspiration.
As of this date, imo, this is one of the better winemaking simulations on Steam. I DO recommend the community guide while playing. This is a relaxing and visually simple and appealing game. I recommend.
Super jeu, pour qui aime la gestion et adore le vin. Il est pas facile, ça c' est tant mieux.
A very nice little game! I enjoyed learning and playing Terroir. I knew nothing about wine making before this game, but I picked it all up quite quickly from the in-game tutorial. Unlike others, I liked the unpredictable weather as it meant I had to play differently. A year without rain can be quite financially damaging, but something I learnt to prepare for by having something left in reserve.
Tried playing on MacBook Air M1. There is no harvest button rendered, so you can't even complete the basic goal of the game. Avoid this game at all costs.
