Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is not just a game; it's an adrenaline-fueled journey where your strategic prowess decides the fate of mankind against the machines. After the machines took over, the greatest threats may not come from the machines but rather from other human survivors.

TLDR: Only purchase is less than $5 on sale This is a buggy, unoptimized mess, even in 2026, 2 years after launch. My poor rig, even with a 5070 TI would chug at times. And the bugs... sooooo many bugs! Yet the developers have the balls to continue to release paid-for DLC addons. I really cannot overstate how disappointing my experience with Dark Fate has been. Let's talk mechanics. You've got meta resources for the overland map. Goodwill points, Supplies, Pesos (for the Cartel missions), and finally Manpower. Makes sense so far? Cool. Now, supplies, the entire system of supplies, it totally unbalanced. The system is meant to make you feel restricted so you can't keep every group of fighters, vehicle, or tank that you find. That makes sense, however in reality the system is pretty much telling a starving child from TV that all he can have is a single Saltine Cracker. Basically, if you have an unlucky run, or make a single bad call, your entire campaign will become crippled (Yes, even on the easiest setting). Next mechanic, every single mission, save for the last one, forces you to march all your units across the map to leave the zone. Why? Because that's the game and it makes the rule. The enemies are dead, your people are bleeding fuel and low on ammo, but they want you to waste 5-7 more real-life minutes marching your people across large maps. Rubber-banding. This game works based on squads. Squads are idiots with pathfinding. Expect to find random squads stuck on buildings, vehicles and other fun obstacles because the squad split up to go around a building or obstacle and then got stuck and are then rubber-banding back and forth. This is a Macro game for the most part with micro-elements in tactical combat. Instead, you babysit your people because AI pathfinding rides the short-bus. Instant-fail mechanics. There's a lot of them. You can trigger them accidently. Your troops can trigger them due to short-bus AI pathfinding. You've been warned. Plot-armor, Lawful-stupid hero MC. Yup. The dude isn't giga-chad. He isn't a leader. He just has good intentions and keeps getting screwed over by everyone. We get it, it's a grimdark world... so why is the hero so rainbow and unicorn farts? Expect to eye roll. A lot. I REALLY wanted to like this game. I love the premise. I love strategy games. I adore the universe. While this wasn't a cash-grab, it felt like a gut punch either way. There was no way that anyone from the publisher ever played this game from start to finish before giving it the okay to launch. And now, other then milking players for paid DLC, the devs have abandoned the game with all its bugs and sailed off to never-neverland while keeping their jobs. To me, that's extremely annoying. Good people, tens of thousands of good game devs every year are laid off by massive companies. Yet these devs are lazy, content to move on, and unsupportive of their product. I'm even more surprised by the publisher, as they usually have a solid reputation and was the entire reason I picked up a movie-title game. Lesson learned. This game is honestly worth $5 and not a single penny more. I hate to say that. I really, really do. Strategy needs a new infusion, but this isn't the game to do it.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
Recommended (with caveats) I have a serious love/hate relationship with Terminator: Dark Fate Defiance. You can tell the developers didn’t have the resources they needed, but honestly, with what they did have, they’ve made a really promising game. There’s a strong foundation here. The core systems work, the atmosphere is great, and the game has a ton of potential. Despite its issues, I do recommend it, especially if you enjoy tactical RTS or wargame-style experiences. Just be aware that it still needs polish. Main Issues (What you should know before you buy) Optimization needs work. Expect to have your frames drop to the lower 30s during battles and while roaming on the maps. The final mission was a nightmare to play on. Pathfinding & responsiveness. Units can and will get stuck the most inconvenient piece of rubble it can find. If playing on a higher difficulty, expect to lose your lovely Bradleys and M1 Abrams due to pathfinding shenangians. In a game like this, this issue will require a lot of save scumming. Which can lead to long mission times, and this is not great for people with real world commitments. Loading & stability. There are still moments where the game hangs between missions or during loading screens. This is incredibly frustrating, please fix. DLCs We Are Legion: The Legion DLC is awesome. Playing as the machines is a fantastic change of pace. Going from fragile humans to unstoppable chrome death machines is an incredible experience. The campaign introduces new mechanics that really sell the idea that the machines are everywhere and overwhelming. It’s a bit short, but overall, absolutely worth playing. Uprising: The Uprising DLC is a mixed bag. It introduces a Conquest-style mode that should have added a ton of longevity. It provides a sandbox experience where you take territory and manage your army. The idea is great, and there’s real potential here. However, there are some frustrating design choices. You’re locked to playing as the Founders/Movement, which is a huge missed opportunity. The Cartel, Integrators, and Legion are all really fun factions, and not being able to play with your toys is a big letdown. It also feels like this could have been a free update rather than paid DLC. Personally, I think the resources might have been better spent on a story-driven expansion that feeds into this kind of sandbox mode. Final Thoughts This game is so close to being something special. There are genuinely great systems, strong faction design, and a really compelling foundation here. When everything clicks, it’s a fantastic experience. If the developers can continue to improve optimization, pathfinding, and overall polish, this can easily become a great game. For now, I recommend it with the understanding that you’re buying into a game with huge potential that isn’t fully realized yet. Also I highly recommend you play on normal for your first experience so you do not ALT F 4 your PC and wake up your poor family because you are screaming at your toaster.
This is a cool game and I'll still play it, but the marketing wasn't honest. They say it's an RTS game, but in reality it plays like an RPG. If you're expecting big battles, stick to skirmish and totally ignore the story campaign. The campaign is all walking and talking and more walking around in circles to do fetch quests with moments of action here and there. Glad I got it in the spring sale, I wouldn't recommend this at full price. Thank goodness, there are cheats if you really want to grind at the campaign.

This is a good game. As a longtime RTS fan, I've found that a lot of traditional mechanics of the genre have grown stale, and I love that this game does five things differently that no other tactical RTS (that I know of) does: 1) Allows (requires) you to loot vehicles and weapons from the map rather than building them, letting you fully indulge your inner loot goblin; 2) Requires that units be supplied with finite fuel and ammunition, creating a need to establish forward operating bases where supply trucks can be safe but close at hand (later, this becomes a place where you keep your artillery and landed helicopters), which is a fun little tactical exercise; 3) Lets you customize the loadout of your infantry and most vehicles, allowing you to improve and specialize them; 4) Adds trailers/platforms, which can be kitted out as artillery emplacements or as gun emplacements that can be placed as turrets or kept hitched to your fighting vehicles to give them additional firepower in combat; and 5) Requires supply to move through the campaign, so you must prune and optimize your roster of units or you'll be forced to choose between cutting some units to afford supplies for the rest, or sending your units into battle without fuel or ammunition. Honestly, this is a dream for people who like to micromanage and optimize, and can be a nightmare for players who just want to build a huge army and attack-move to victory. I recommend playing on medium, because on hard, this becomes Save-Scumming: the Video Game. Even on medium you have to be careful, but it's not so oppressive. Most units carry generous amounts of fuel and ammunition and only require refills once or twice a mission depending on how much they are used, with the exception of AT weaponry and artillery shells, which your units burn through very quickly. It's a mechanic that I found much more fun than oppressive. The need to spend supply to move from mission to mission is a bit more onerous; while curating your unit roster between missions and making hard choices about what units to keep, what units to cut, and what units to arm and fuel is a compelling mechanic, it can result in situations where you spent all your supplies to get to a mission, and now are softlocked because you weren't given enough supplies to reach the next mission. The game also provides a meaty singleplayer campaign (each mission can take multiple hours to complete) with choices that shape your run in meaningful ways, and missions that change up the gameplay and pacing and provide plentiful secondary objectives so you never get bored. The most ambitious of these missions can trip up a bit in the execution and seem confusing or overwhelming (looking at you, New Tortuga). But again, if you play on medium, it's forgiving enough that mistakes or skipped objectives won't cost you the mission. There's some rough bits: infantry can get hung up on car wrecks or other map greebles; player ATGMs seem to inexplicably swerve away from enemy cartel tanks even when there is no smoke or LOS issue; there is no cover system, which surprised me; sometimes units waste expensive missiles trying to shoot enemies on the other side of buildings; there's no option for tanks to only use their main gun on vehicles; artillery is so inaccurate but so supply-heavy that it is maddening to watch it burn through expensive shells while repeatedly failing to hit an enemy vehicle; early missions give you unmanageably large numbers of units; "Legion" just does not have the menace of Skynet, and makes for an extremely generic antagonist (although luckily there are plenty of human allies and enemies to pick up its narrative slack), et cetera. But overall, this is a game that dares to be different when most RTS games just rehash the same old mechanics, and offers a fresh and fun experience that rewards clever play, optimization, and compulsive looting.
you see, i sat down with a buddy of mine. We started drinking coffee, he then talked about how his long time friend moved to Galveston, i had a panic attack because i lost around 185 soldier and all my tanks and helicopters on my first playthrough there. 10/10 love the ptsd from this rts game.
This is the best Realistic RTS I've ever seen and played. It takes the unit control of Arcade RTS with the most incredible ways to customize your units. My favorite unit combo I have made is the Bradley IFV with the 20mm rotary cannon and tow launcher upgrade for a good general vehicle. Rotary for infantry, light vehicles and aircraft defence with the TOW launcher for more scary heavy vehicles like tanks.
I want to love it but everything is so buggy after a year, You can't enter buildings sometimes. Units will randomly no longer be able to man guns or turrents that are in perfect condition with ammo. Would do a hard pass on this maybe some day some modders will come by and fix it like they always have with these jank RTS's
