A fun rhythm game. The first few levels do a good job easing you into the mechanics and before you know it, you will find that you have inadvertently committed dozens of spells to muscle memory. After beating the main storyline there are many options for replayability... try to 5 star the levels on fast and hard mode to get to the top of the leaderboard, challenge the valkyrie on endless mode, compete in wizard duels with your newly learned spell repertoire, or use the level editor to create and share new challenges
I was able to play the beta version of this game, and it's pretty interesting! I love rhythm games, and this is a new take on that kind of genre. You're basically a wizard who can cast spells to the beat using the keys on your keyboard. You don't need to press the keys at an exact point in the song, but you do have to press the keys to the beat of the song, so it's a little more open-ended. That doesn't make it any less challenging. Once you get the basics down at the wizard academy (which I enjoyed quite a bit), you'll eventually have to cast multiple spells at once within a time limit and start memorizing the spells. I'm not a naturally good typer, so it was a little awkward for me at first, but I notice that it made me a little more comfortable on the keyboard as time went on. The game did start to outpace my skills though. I think I was able to get through like 75% of story mode before it got too hard for me? There's one guy on the leaderboard who has to be some kind of savant or something. It's definitely designed for people with quick minds and hands. So if you like rhythm games, are comfortable on a keyboard, and like a bit of a challenge in a fantasy environment, this game is definitely for you.
Imagine Dance Dance Revolution fused with spellcasting, and you'll have a good idea of what this indie game offers. Using eight keys (ASDF + JKL;), you'll be prompted to cast spells by rapidly inputting sequences, creating a frantic, rhythmic experience reminiscent of 'Typing of the Dead.' The game's core mechanic is simple yet addictive: spells appear on screen, and you must execute them, following a subtle rhythm that emerges as you play. While it might feel like rapid-fire memorization at first, the underlying rhythm adds a layer of engaging challenge. Visually, the game boasts a distinct and appealing art style, complemented by satisfying sound effects that enhance the magical atmosphere. What truly sets this indie title apart is its surprisingly robust content. Beyond the core gameplay, you'll find multiplayer modes and a level editor, adding good replay value. For its current price, this game is an easy recommendation. It's a unique and entertaining experience that delivers more content than you might expect from an indie developer. If you're looking for a fresh take on rhythm games with a magical twist, this is definitely worth checking out.
This is a rhythm game at its core, and you'll ultimately need to learn key combinations as the game progresses. I love the art style and fast-paced combos. Spells represent specific sequences of keys timed to the music. As spells appear on the screen, you press the right keys to cast them. It is fun to learn the mechanics and improve your skills. I found it hard to perfect it and expect a lot of depth as you learn new spells. Highly recommended!
This is a fun rhythm game with a good narrative! I really love the idea that the rhythm portion of the game is casting spells. The need to remember how to cast each spells adds a cool dimension of difficulty that really makes it fun and rewarding to cast these spells. There is also a good amount of content especially if you are trying to climb the leaderboard. I high recommend this game!
+ Music is great and doesn't get old + When you enter the zone and things click it's super satisfying +/- Incredibly depth for people who really want to dive deep. Overwhelming number of spells for the casual player. - Occasional difficulty spikes will almost certainly crush you randomly during the campaign. Setting expectations, this isn't really a rhythm game. You clear spells with the recipes and some of them have gaps which the music can help you space out your inputs but it's not necessary to stay on beat (although you likely will anyway) and the notes do not follow the music. Clearing the campaign is fairly difficult and will feel overwhelming at first due to the sheer number of spells but the progression is incremental so you pick up a few each level. The spell design is cleverly done with the art and color giving you strong hints to help you remember, it's clear some careful thought was put into it although the yellow and brown are a bit too similar at first. When you finally cross over from thinking and memorizing to muscle memory, everything clicks and it feels great. Overall this is an incredibly unique game with a tight and satisfying game-play loop that gets more rewarding the more you play.
Very cute rhythm game with a fun story!
Super cool concept. I like the story being tied to the mechanics in a meaningful way. It feels good when you start getting it and can cast spells by just the card image alone. I haven't gotten into the multiplayer yet, but I'm curious to try out a rhythm battler type thing. Really cool!
The combination of smooth tunes with real time beat-based action makes for a fun time when you start casting spells - I assume this is what real wizardry is like.
Nice art, tricky to play, but entertaining.
