About

Tattoo Dungeon is an 8-bit action-platformer with some metroidvania influence. It's an indie homebrew gameboy color game, ported to play easily on PCs. This version of the game retains it's original retro 8-bit "charm" just as if you were playing on the original handheld.
• Lost Flash: Recover 20 hidden tattoo designs to fill your gallery.
• Tattoo Skin Maps: Tattoo skin maps to reveal secrets and a hidden power.
• 12 Bosses: Defeat bosses and minibosses to save your town from invasion.
• 4 Weapons: Smash monsters using your trusty chain and 3 special weapons.
• Power-Ups: Discover upgrades to unlock new areas and track down secrets.
The Ultimate Challenge: Players who achieve 100% completion will unlock the true final boss.
• Optional Shaders: gbc style grid, scanline shader, with CRT options.
• Resolution Options: Upscaled full screen and art bezel options.
Estimated Playtime: ~5+ hours for first playthrough; 2+ hours for optimized speedruns.
Physical cartridge release is planned for later in the year. Best way to support is by buying the game here while waiting for the cartridge.

The Castlevania games I remember had you fighting the Grim Reaper, not going to a strip club with him to tip some cougars, and why is my dash power-up turning me into a sugar mommy, what NES games did you play? This is a GameBoy engine I assume, I think I played Batty Zabella in it, which just happens to have a similar boob focused motif, is that like a thing with GB devs, you all fantasize about erotic Gameboy universe? Okay, I guess I technically bought those games too. I liked the game, I thought it was very charming, from a certain point of view. It's not like an arcade game, more like exploration & metroidvania experience, obviously very goofy, feels like it has a certain audience in mind, very much a NES nostalgia dispenser, but trolling Castlevania specifically. The game itself is not difficult, but the exploration can be challenging, the way you make progress can be somewhat confusing, and it's not always clear what you have to do. I thought the game was pretty creative, I played my share of silly retro inspired games, this one had a lot of personality to it, and I thought the writing was very playful. Not too short, took me a little over 3 hours for the basic ending, I didn't do the 100% completion to get the true final boss, that would likely take another 2-3 hours. I felt like the level design was decent, you would hide around the collectibles in a compelling way, so it was fun navigating and exploring the game. You can also do a bunch of small things and interactions that are not required for the narrative, the game feels like it has a tiny world to explore with some quirky objectives. (note that if you beat the game, you would have to restart to go for anything you missed)
Pros:
(+) Decent on content, it kinda has some collectathon mentality to it, and apparently another "true" boss if you get everything, plus there are various small things you can do as well. Level design and variety of biomes was decent too, I think you made it fun to look for hidden items. (+) I thought the game was kinda original, feels like you twisted the old arcade formula into a small open world, obviously metroidvania, but also just like a goofy narrative/exploration game. (+) A little funny, or at least I thought it was funny with the design references. Some of the characters were very charming.
Feedback:
Just some small things: - I didn't like the down+jump for dash, kinda easy to switch the direction, wish it was a dedicated button - Is there a way to make analog work with GB on a controller? I don't like using the cross (patched) - the red paint objective was a bit confusing - probably should let the player switch direction in the air for attack - I did have some bugs, but it seems you already fixed a couple - should start the game in fullscreen mode by default Overall Thoughts: 7.5/10 This seems pretty great for GB, maybe not everyone will see it that way because of its superficial aesthetic, but the game is very elaborative with exploration and navigation, it does feel like you know what you doing, and ignoring the erotic and goofy narrative of the game, it's a pretty competent retro inspired game. Probably more of a game for old farts that grew up in the 90s, I thought the references and silly retro nuances were hilarious, feels like a real game, you know, not like all the boring slop people feed us these days. It's Fun!
Easy one of the greatest game boy color aftermarket & homebrew games out there. Get it!
I've been following this game's development for a while and playing the demos along the way, so it's incredibly satisfying to finally see the full release. It absolutely lives up to the excitement. As a tattoo artist, one of my favorite parts is all the references to iconic American traditional tattoo designs. It's clear that a lot of thought and appreciation went into the art direction, and spotting those influences throughout the game made the experience even more enjoyable for me. Beyond the visuals, the gameplay is engaging, polished, and just plain fun. There's a surprising amount of content to keep you coming back, and the soundtrack fits the game's atmosphere perfectly, making every session even more enjoyable. You can really tell the developer put a lot of care and passion into this project. Whether you're a fan of the genre or just looking for something fresh to play, this is an easy recommendation. 10/10—I highly recommend checking it out!
