Challenging, lewd, lotsa CGs.
This game is pretty darn saucy! It's very much focused on delivering lewd content, but its battle system is shockingly complex with a lot of insanity. In a good way! There are four really solid characters here, three playable and one merchant gal (Caelia) who are all doing... something, to do with corruption? Err... we'll get to that. But I am happy I played it all in all. It's a fun roguelite that ended up teaching me a lot about game design... and I am a game developer, with some experience in game design! Clearly PixelBee know A LOT more about game design.
Gameplay - 8.5
The deck battler is challenging... engaging, and honestly, innovative in ways. The builds you can do are very varied and you can end up being forced to engage with builds and decks you otherwise would not want to do but they end up working out super well. Everything is fair too... for instance I hated Dusk at first, despite liking her design a lot and her sass with Caelia... but then I learned how to actually build into dusk. I ended up really enjoying the combat side of this game. I could see playing it in a normal game, too. Each of the three tamers play VERY differently. A minion summoner that has to resource manage heavily and relies on healing to keep her in the fight, a brawler tank that can focus on single hit damage, multiple, counter damage and defense stacking... and a rogue that focuses on brewing potions for stacking damage buffs and 0 AP low damage skills that you amp up, and a cloaking/hide ability that can help you recover. The cloak even has damage from "anxiety" which makes it so you can't just use it as a blatant crutch and you need to understand what you are doing.
Graphics & Art - 9
Fantastic pixel art. Awesome GUI, great biomes, and the animations are pretty darn solid! Each of the 3 "tamers" have a lot of variety, different scenes, different ways they "interact"with monsters and they each "interact" with Caelia differently, too. Hit effects are nice, animations for attacks can be cool.
Sound - 7
It's good, good attack sfx, lewd sfx are good etc... the audio mixing on voices maybe could have used a bit of cleaning up on some of the gals. But all in all it all sounds good, effective, and is played pretty safe.
Story & Characters - 4
There's.... story and narratively there is very little here. We are in "tamer vale" go across three biomes fighting the "corruption" which is... a thing? What is corruption, I get it sounds bad but why are we fighting it? What is causing it? Who are the enemies The characters are more their designs, they have a little personality in 8 chats with Caelia each, but that's it. We don't get enough time with them to really learn more than a bit of how they react to and interact with Caelia. This game is VERY focused on the delivery of the adult content over any kind of basic even serviceable narrative.
PROS:

Great boss stage CGs
Fantastic overall art style
Battle system is surprisingly deep and imaginative

CONS:

There is... no story.

Summary - 7
Solid gameplay in this title and lewd scenes really hold up the experience to make it well above average and good. But... there is no story, at all. I am left with nothing but questions of what is going on, who the Tamers are, and... what are the different biomes? Why are the different biomes? Who are the boss monsters? Why, are the boss monsters... what is the corruption? What's the motivation to get rid of corruption? What does it even do to the monsters??? Does it make them violent, or horny, or... make them turn undead? I recommend the game but... maybe on a bit of sale to be fair. The animations are solid, so solid and the gameplay itself is super solid. But... the narrative is missing.
It's like a simpler Slay the Spire but with boobs. Fun enough for a casual game, the "16 bit graphics" are a plus.
Difficulty: Easy Playtime: Short to Medium The pixel art hits different, so I only played on Easy just to speedrun my way to the reward animations. But then the game was actually kinda fun, so I ended up playing more than expected. Pretty solid for the price, honestly. But buying it on sale? Now that would feel even better.
Unexpectedly addictive Sold as advertised Would like to see more character options & team ups.
🌸 Beautiful pixel art, not only of the three playable elf characters, but of the monsters as well - the succubus monster looks exceptionally nice, and all three main bosses look both cute and charmingly ridiculous. All three playable characters are nice and distinctly interesting in their own way and easily may have been the focus of a gigantic RPG. Amongst all adult-only games I've ever played (...so just a few, to be sure...), this one is the only one I did like in any way - unquestionably worth buying as it is genuinely adorable and wholesome. There is undeniable elegance in the artistic style, which is a rare and precious quality. ...Dusk is nearly for sure inspired by Night Elf archetype both visually and in various different ways...
