Game is short but it has a touching story and interesting visuals. It's weaker in the gameplay department than some of its contemporaries, but it has the makings of something much more interesting. I think if this studio makes a follow up, whether a sequel or a different game in the same genre, they will be able to add the polish it needs to really make the mechanics shine. I highly recommend this game, very worth the handful of hours it'll take you to 100% it
I wouldn't recommend for metroidvania fans. Controls feel weird. Basic movement set is too simple. World isn't very refined to the platforming.
This game reminds of me both Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and the Ori games. I absolutely loved those games, and while this isn't quite as polished as either of those, it definitely scratched the itch they left behind. Minor criticisms: - While this looks, feels and (mostly) plays like a Metroidvania, the areas are all progressed through in a very linear fashion. There's rarely ever a story-based reason to return to a previous area. I only ever went back to find collectibles and upgrades that were previously blocked by obstacles. - It's pretty easy to lose track of your player while in combat with many enemies that look similar to you, on a zoomed out screen far away. I died many times just because for a second I wasn't sure which character on the screen was mine. - The story. I understand that the story came from a very personal place from the creator, but most of the time I found it hard to connect. Needed a little more show-don't-tell, something the Ori games excelled at. None of those issues, however, were deal breakers for me,. I had a great time unwinding to this game after work. . Loved the Afrofuturistic-inspired aesthetic, addictive gameplay, and swift pacing. Overall a very fun title. A good one to pick up on sale.
Apart from the nice voice acting and decent visuals, the overall experience was very disappointing.
Beautiful game with a great story, great voice acting, great soundtrack and fun mechanics. I loved how the game incorporated various common aspects of Bantu culture and I hope to see more games in the future that incorporate more African cultures. P.S. I saw that some people were reviewing the game badly not because of the game but because EA sold themselves to the Saudi's. I do agree that is bad but, review a game like this with how small the developer is only hurts the developer and not the publisher.
7/10
Recommend? Yes. I've got a few niggle nitpicks, but they ain't worth of any real criticism. Like the back drop backgrounds have importance and detail, but the game design and the art design have some friction with each other that makes it difficult or really absorb and appreciate the amount of work that would have gone into a lot of the background details. Also, a bit about the game's mechanics. Purely from a mechanically objective outlook, it's on the more basic side of things. So while the story of the game is a bit heavy, there is still a subtle friction between game design and art where they sort of don't mesh as well as they aught to. That art thou. So good. Art is something that's meant to make you feel, right? Yeah. Those elements of this game that is the Art is top shelf stuff.
Great game !!!!
game too easy even at hard. platforming is very repetitive. Combat is forcing you to switch between the 2 forms and not in a fun way red shield for red mask, blue shield for blue mask... story is kind of boring and easy to predict.
