Enki hits me right in the member berries. From pokemon red to zelda on SNES, its overall game play feel natural. Even if you rush through the game just for the achievements you are still going to enjoy it. But, if you take your time, there is a so many hidden gems. This game has a simple but enjoyable combat style. A ton of easter eggs that don't feel like a chore to find. Its story is engaging. It has giggling in some spots and maybe even shed a tear in other. Enki doesn't feel rushed as do some indie games. For the price you can't beat it. I'm looking forward and hoping to see more from these developers.
Good price, decent graphics (for a pixelized game), well working turn based combat. The music in some areas is a bit annoying, but well, i can get over that.
Tale of Enki is one of those games I would let my kid play as their first RPG. It's relatively short, but it's compact with quality. For the price I would consider this one of the best of its kind, especially since the dudes behind it proved that they care about their fans and posted a patch the moment people expressed problems with systems and bugs. Memorable characters, touching story and dialogue, relatively unique mechanics through out the game and a great experience overall. Do yourself a favor and get it.
I've got as far as the first boss
Crystal Golem
and I enjoy it a lot so far. I spent some time getting used to the battle system and after that it flowed pretty well. I'm not sure how long it is but I'll definitely be coming back to it to see where the story goes.
The game Tale of Enki: Pilgrimage first came onto my radar through the demo. It featured the young ogre Gargan who got kicked out of his home for being a lazy vagabond. This somewhat un-traditional hero immediately set the tone of the game. When released Enkian Games kindly offered me a Steam code so that I could play through the full game. It was a trip well worth taking. The game offers a mix of old school ingredients from the 2d rpg:s of the 1990s but also has a slew of fresh components to it. The humor is a big part of the experience and the characters are varied and not picked from mainstream fantasy races. The adventure took me about twenty hours to go through and that felt just about right. The gaming world is deep in lore and has a few different and distinct areas to discover. You also have secret characters, easter eggs and many side quests to find. Music and gameplay were adequate and I was also ok with the graphics choice. It is a classic 2d and I thought it worked. I could see it being a dealbreaker for some though so do watch some videos or pictures if you are unsure of if you like it or not. All things considered I landed on a solid 3/5 in the end if I had to pick a score. For lovers of old school 2d rpg:s that also want something new this just might be it. If you need some videos to help make up your mind then look no further. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLM5qJNFkTuoqeHpUpD88i_FB2km7LfsIy
This is a lazy JRPG ripoff retro pixel 2D game that kind of looks like it was made with RPG Maker, but it seems not to be, which means someone spent a lot of time and effort making a really trash RPG Maker game without actually using RPG Maker. The end result, despite all that hard work, is about the same. Crappy lazy retro pixel graphics (why don't these McDonalds employees ever hire an artist???), weak gameplay, high school dropout fanfiction tier story. I think the best advice to people who really do want to play a retro JRPG is, well, go play Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, the real deal. Those old games are much better than this, and you can play them free in emulators and even online. The quality of this game is far, far, far beneath minimum acceptable standard for PC, and far beneath the quality of the games it's ripping off, despite decades of advancement in PC graphics and capability. On the technical front, resolution is fixed and the game crashes if you switch to full screen. I guess software testing is one of those things that the developers here couldn't really afford to arrange, along with decent graphics, art, storyline, gameplay, etc etc etc. There is one saving grace here, the developers seem to genuinely think this shovelware is worth $10, I think that's something we can all find some humour in.
Fun little RPG with unique mechanics for combat and character growth. A variety of party members who start off standoffish but warm up to each other nicely. I just wish the main story was longer as it feels more like a side story than an epic quest.
