UY PILIPIN!
Taguan, developed and published by Murushii Studios, is a tightly focused psychological horror experience that leans more on emotional tension and cultural grounding than on mechanical complexity. It presents itself as a short, narrative-driven journey, placing players in the role of an ordinary individual caught in a situation that slowly spirals into something deeply unsettling. Rather than building its identity around conventional horror tropes, the game roots its fear in familiarity, drawing from everyday environments and lived experiences that feel strikingly real, especially within its Filipino setting. One of the game’s strongest qualities is its atmosphere, which is crafted with a deliberate sense of restraint. Instead of overwhelming players with constant threats or aggressive scares, Taguan allows unease to build gradually. The pacing is measured, often quiet, and filled with moments that feel deceptively mundane. It’s in these slower segments where the game excels, using subtle audio cues, environmental storytelling, and careful lighting to create a lingering sense of dread. When tension finally peaks, it feels earned rather than forced, making the horror more impactful than if it relied purely on shock value. The gameplay itself is minimalistic, centered around exploration and observation. Players move through confined spaces, interact with objects, and uncover fragments of the story as they progress. There are no complex systems to manage or skill-based mechanics to master, which may be a point of contention depending on what one expects from a horror game. However, this simplicity is intentional, allowing the narrative and atmosphere to take full control of the experience. It becomes less about “playing” in a traditional sense and more about immersing yourself in a carefully constructed sequence of events. What truly sets Taguan apart is its cultural identity. The use of Filipino language, voice acting, and setting adds a layer of authenticity that is rarely seen in horror games. It doesn’t feel like a generic haunted story transplanted into a different location; instead, it reflects specific social realities and emotional undercurrents that give the narrative a unique voice. This cultural grounding makes the horror feel more personal and, at times, more disturbing, as it draws from situations that feel plausible rather than fantastical. That said, the game’s indie nature is noticeable in certain areas. Technical polish can be inconsistent, with occasional rough edges in animation, sound mixing, or performance. The voice acting, while commendable for its authenticity, sometimes varies in delivery quality, which can momentarily break immersion. Additionally, the game’s short length—roughly around an hour—means that it doesn’t have much room to expand on its ideas or offer replay value. Once the story is experienced, there is little incentive to return beyond revisiting specific moments. Despite these limitations, Taguan succeeds in delivering a memorable and emotionally resonant experience. It demonstrates a clear understanding of what it wants to achieve and avoids overextending itself with unnecessary features. The result is a concise yet impactful horror title that prioritizes storytelling and atmosphere over traditional gameplay depth. For players who appreciate narrative-driven experiences and are open to slower, more introspective forms of horror, it offers something distinct and meaningful. Rating: 8/10
YES SIR
Great game, super creepy parts and a nice twist. The only things I didn't like - Eating sounds. I don't know why games include this. It's obnoxious and unnecessary. - The sleep paralysis segment. Super lazy horror that's overdone
A near-masterpiece. A tense, immersive experience that plays to its strengths and limitations wonderfully. A must-buy.
Great game, tells a story without overdoing the jumpscares/horror.
Love the game! Story was great! Plot twist was good!
