💀💀Unless you plan to play for at least 100 hours, you won’t need any DLC at all, so we STRONGLY RECOMMEND against purchasing it.💀💀
(The DLC features stages that are orders of magnitude more difficult than those in the main game, so buying it before you’ve mastered the main game is a complete waste of money.
Also, since Steam supports refunds, if you accidentally purchase it, We strongly recommend requesting a refund as soon as possible.
The latest DLC is very challenging unless you’ve played for at least 1,000 hours.)

About the Game
Enter the Tactical Nexus:
What lies underneath the cute and colorful pixel-art RPG facade is nothing less than one of the world’s most difficult hand-crafted puzzle games. A combination of resource management, logic puzzles, and tantalizing power-ups are your tools to climb up the enemy-riddled floors of each Magic Tower! Tactical Nexus is a single-player Magic Tower game inspired by the classic game “Tower of the Sorcerer,” combining magic, power-ups, and multitudes of monstrous foes to defeat and delve deeper into each Tower!
From the team:
This is our Puzzle RPG that can be played for 10,000 hours. A resource management game with overwhelming “quality-of-life functionality" to conquer puzzles with overwhelmingly high difficulty. One of the world's top 3 indie games in terms of average play time.
Features and Content
The base game includes twelve Magic Towers, with dozens of hand-crafted floors to navigate, explore, and grow your power! The base game can reward you for hundreds of hours of gameplay with continued meta progress that allows you to take another step further!
There are no random elements used, no procedural generation, and to advance you’ll need to find the best way through your enemies and reach the ‘Clear’ tile. Every tower will remain the same each time you play it, yet you can grow stronger!
Undo and redo every action instantly! Save, and see what happens when you try things in a different order or do something a little different! Load into a previous game state instantly and compare with Status Stamps!
Scout each Magic Tower’s depths to further your own insight and plan meticulous routes with shareable Memos!
Score well to earn meta-progression resources, Sunstones and Medals. Reuse them each time that you start a Magic Tower, and unlock new depths! Face the difficult Nexus stage, or perhaps even the terrifying ‘Clowns’!
Achieve ‘Pure’ scores for more Sunstones rewards by playing a tower without meta-progression medals.
Thousands of hours of deep strategy and tactical decision making gameplay are able to be enjoyed without any mindless grind: Return to each Magic Tower with more meta resources to improve your score, obtain more Sunstones and upgrade your Medal to the max, and repeat the cycle, with each step only becoming a more difficult puzzle to solve!
Blunder your way through the world’s most accessible NP-hard problems disguised as treasure rooms with trillions upon trillions of permutations and even more novel solutions.
No microtransactions! Advance only by the best Tactical strategy! Each DLC contains several complete hand-crafted Magic Towers with dozens of floors, new mechanics and gimmicks, each with new meta progression resources, adding another layer of meta progress to all previous towers for a compounding effect of thousands of hours of gameplay!
Take on the later DLC Magic Towers when you’re ready, without needing to wait for them to be on sale: Tactical Nexus DLC will not be discounted before 2027!
No mods and no NSFW derivative works are permitted due to various legal limitations. TeamNexus strongly encourages use of its systems and design, so feel free to implement a ‘Nexus system’ into your own game or mods for other games!
Join the Human Hive Mind
A robust Discord community server invites all players to share their high scores as well as their Memos and strategic insight. Work together to find the best solutions that you can—there will always be a way to improve! Become the trailblazing hero with the most Sunstones, find new routes and solutions, or make new friends as you learn to play one of the world’s hardest games!
"Won't using the Discord for help make the game no fun?"
This is normally the case for a puzzle game, and in a few situations, you might find a particular experience more hollow in Tactical Nexus due to the help you receive, but Tactical Nexus does avoid a common 'pitfall' of difficult puzzle games:
it never ends or runs out of genuinely novel problems with extremely particular solutions.
Tactical Nexus remains in active development with more DLC on the way!
The small development team is always looking for feedback, will respond to your messages and questions on the Discord server, and even implement your suggestions.

Reviews
I would recommend this game to anyone who can read this. It's a well-crafted and fun game, and there's no need to read the review below.
Tactical Nexus is phenomenal. The core of the game is simple: you have four stats: HP, ATK, DEF, and XP. There is no RNG. You move through a level attacking enemies, you always attack first (if you have more ATK than their HP, you take no damage). DEF is flat ATK reduction (if you have more DEF than their ATK, you also take no damage). The first puzzle element you find are "golden feathers" that increase the XP you get from all enemies you fight after acquiring the feather. You'll find yourself fighting minimal battles to get to the golden feather, so you can go back and farm enemies for increased XP -- but sacrificing fighting the enemies on the early floors to get the golden feather leaves you under leveled, and you start optimizing how much you want to use your HP total to get that next golden feather before farming the early floors. Golden feathers in some levels increase your XP multi to over 10,000%. The second puzzle element you will find are "life crowns" -- they do the same thing as golden feathers, but for HP pickups. After a +30% life crown, that +200 HP red potion now gets you +260 HP. How many potions can you skip before you have to pick some up to have enough HP to keep going deeper in the level? Once you make it through the tower, you earn a permanent medal based on your score (bronze, silver, gold, etc) that can be permanently be used in a "shop" you can visit in each tower. In the first shop, three medals gets you a +30% golden feather at the very start of the level. Now, you level up quicker and can reach deeper feathers and crowns, increasing your final stats and increasing your final score in the tower. In addition to the medals, your score also earns you permanent "sunstones". In the shop, you can gain either extra ATK, DEF, or HP per sunstone you own. In the beginning, 100 sunstones feel awesome and you start out 2x as powerful as you did when you first entered the stage for the first time. Starting with the DLCs, you get introduced weapons, armors, orbs. There are a lot of different orbs -- one will swap your position with whatever is in front of you ("swap orb"), another will jump over one square ("teleport orb"), another will destroy the wall in front of you ("pavement orb"), another will freeze all the water/keys/doors ("blizzard orb"), and there are several more. They orbs are very powerful but very rare, so you really have to think how you want to "break" the level with the orb you have. Then, in Chapter 6, everything changes: you get introduced to magic, legacies, and a hard mode ("mystic gate") on existing levels. After you collect a legacy, you can spend sunstones to activate that legacy on the mystic gate version of any stage -- and the legacies are POWERFUL. For example, for 20% of your total sunstones, you can get a pavement orb on any level (including levels that don't have a pavement orb) allowing you to sequence break the level in insane ways for an insane score. There are almost 40 legacies already, and every new level released almost always adds at least one new legacy. Chapter 6 also introduces magic, which (usually) gives you a one-off effect to make a specific battle in your favor on mystic gate stages. Do you need 1000 ATK for one battle? 20 MP. Do you want to nullify the enemy ATK for the first 3 rounds of a fight? 15 MP. Do you want to unlock the yellow door in front of you? 15 MP. Do you want to level up the enemy in front of you, increasing both XP and loot? 50 MP. Finishing a mystic gate stage will earn you a "Goddess Feather", which gives a permanent +2 starting MP on every mystic gate stage you play. Each of these systems layer on each other, to allow for deeper and deeper progression and metaprogression. In the mystic gate of the very first stage in the game ("Tactical Tutorial"), I start with 38 medals for items in the first shop (all the golden feathers and crowns available, and several extra purple keys) and start with 4,609 sunstones to spend on legacies that get me a pavement orb, teleport orb, moon orb, a small bonus to enemy XP, HP every time I level, and still have enough left over to grab +838 ATK from the ATK sunwasher in the shop. All of these items let me increase my score on the sage from earning 15 sunstones to earning 50 sunstones -- and that's just one stage out of the 45 stages current available. You will either be obsessed with this game, or you will find it's not for you. You will know within an hour or two. For me, it's the best game I have ever played. 4,609 sunstones / 10.

It's a tragedy that everybody I know IRL wouldn't like this game because it is truly phenomenal and I can't praise it enough to anybody that will listen. The game design is truly stellar. It has lasted me over 300 hours with no signs of stopping and even encouraged me to make my own game in the same genre. It's just that good.
An absolutely unique game, produced via the dedication of great effort to an extremely specific and eccentric vision, pushing it far outside the space of normal design. By some combination of luck or wisdom, the metaprogression system devised for the game happens to combine with the magic tower gameplay in such a way as to produce a kind of nearly-endless series of different puzzles, almost all of which are interesting, optional, rewarding, and constantly changing. It's interesting to consider whether the metaprogression could be portable to other styles of game and achieve a similar result. The active development and the community working steadily over each task also creates a special atmosphere, for however long that will last. The game will definitely challenge you, encourage you, and reward you for the time and energy you put into it. As to whether expending that energy is fun, only you can say.
Oof have to not recommend. Played the game about 4 years active in discord and reddit. Developer had a bad day and banned me and just doubling down even though they had a huge argument with an entirely other player in a different thread. Rather than warning/asking for what upset them so, or reading my actual post history they just explode. EDIT: Dev has deleted the post where I suggested the game had a lots of hours of content for value/price. EDIT: Dev helpfully posted the 3rd post that I commented in that was not mine EDIT: Steam forum has 1 year old posts on first page so I guess this behavior from this dev is ongoing and not targeting me, thanks for several people who dm'd me this from discord that this wasn't the first time. I'll update if there's an unban but grown children with absolute power that can press buttons don't need to be rational, respectful or kind. ~~~ You are targeting the wrong player. It wasn't my thread that was locked, that was an entirely separate player. You banned the wrong person. I havn't trolled a single thread or person I've commented on 3 posts (no particular order) 1. Helped player on how to play wide screen even with 4k 2. Said the game was very worthwhile for lots of hours 3. Commented the sunstones from beach aren't much in the long run None of these are trolls. Pretty sure you're thinking of the massive thread that is locked, and it wasn't my thread 私はほぼカニのしもべ 15 hours ago Well, since this is a single-player game, feel free to play it by yourself. You have every right to do so. Please never get involved with the community again. From our perspective, you will absolutely not make anyone in this community happy. Especially not in the long run. 私はほぼカニのしもべ 15 hours ago We don’t expect players to buy in-game currency against their will, and you’re free to think it’s boring if you want. Your behavior—suddenly starting to troll another thread right after this one was locked—is abnormal. People’s feelings change over time. In particular, bringing up old issues or grievances rarely leads to anything good. Normally, people can sense these things from the context or the situation, but there are some who simply can’t. And those who lack that kind of insight tend to insist on doing things that nobody wants, just like you. They keep acting as if they want to “make people happy,” even though nobody is actually happy. We absolutely do not want people like that in our community, and we absolutely do not want them interacting with other players in our game. Unfortunately, since this isn’t possible system-wise, it’s just a wish, but I’d like to tell people like you: “Here’s some money—please don’t ever come back.” Tegga21 Mar 25 @ 8:49am I'm not sure why this was a ban. I'm recommending to buy the game, it provides tons of fun game time. Actual offending post/ban (Originally posted by surfboc: just wondering :Pigeon:) < quoted text my post: If you're on the fence and have LOTS of free time the game time to value ratio is unmatched. Dev Ban Reason: I don’t know if you were upset that your thread was locked, but please refrain from spamming other threads by bringing up old or inactive topics. Frankly, it’s incredibly annoying. The chances that your approach to using this forum will make the TacticalNexus community happy are extremely low. If your comments are highly likely to help the original poster, that’s fine, but if not, the person who received your answer will only feel even more annoyed because “a thread from months ago has been dug up, and on top of that, the issue hasn’t even been resolved.” Please stop creating misery. This is a single-player game, and there is absolutely no reason for you to be posting on the forum. Please do not speak on behalf of our community.
I can not stress enough how amazing this game is. When you first start off it seems like its the hardest thing in the world. It can feel overwhelming at times but then you hit that first clear and its an instant dopamine hit. About every 100 hours I spend on this game I can tell that my thought processes have changed and I feel my brain unlocking. It is hard to explain but I feel like I am able to think quicker and look at things from different pathways that I had not seen before. Now I like my RPG/RTS/FPS/MMO games but this just engages me in a way those game do not. There is also a discord full of people tossing ideas around and giving help when needed. Super welcoming community.
Genre defining classic fixed value puzzle game.
Great Puzzle and Optimization game with an insane ammount of metaprogression.
It is an extremly well put together puzzle game. If you have any interest in puzzle games at all, ignore the graphics if you find them off putting and give it a try since the entery price is free. It can get very complicated but I still have enjoyed the time I have put in, and will probably double that time at the very minimum. I do wish the DLC's weren't so expensive (though reallly it would be awhile before I needed them) Steam Deck Note - Works well, can just use the touch wheel for most controls or set up hotkeys. Haven't had any issues on the deck.
