About

Swarmdustry is a factory building strategy game where you command the relentless evolution of the Swarm. Unlike machines of steel and wire, your production network is alive, fleshy and ever adapting. Hatch workers, harvest resources, carry energy, automate production, and weave sprawling colonies of organic industry.
Every structure, unit, and pathway you build is part of a living ecosystem. As your hive expands, you’ll unlock new genetic codes to accelerate growth, mutate workers into specialized types, and develop true automation.
But you’re not alone on this world. Enemy factions will challenge your expansion, striking at your hive. To survive, you must balance efficiency and ferocity while designing both production lines and defensive strategies that embody the hunger of the Swarm.
Will your hive wither under pressure, or spread across the planet like a living tide?

Seed-based procedurally generated infinite map. You may enable or disable enemies, trees or even water. You may adjust enemy difficulty and scaling, the safe starting area, amount of trees and water, as well as the richness and frequency of resources.
Build and grow your swarm. Mining and crafting manually can only get you so far. Build massive networks of trails and transit pads to deliver resources to your processors which come in different flavors.
Manage your workers. Your industry will only work as long as it is manned by different swarm workers, such as Movers, Miners, Fireflies, Santchers, Acflies, Jumpers, and Drones. Each type of unit has its own single purpose to keep the swarm going.
Distribute energy across the hive. Some swarm buildings require energy to function, while others require fuel such as coal and wood. Make sure fireflies deliver this energy to your buildings using the spire network that you will be designing carefully as they follow the path of least resistance.
Unlock the full potential of the swarm. In order to evolve your swarm, you will have to unlock genetic codes at the Genetic Chamber. This will unlock much of industrial capacity of the hive.
Automate building. Building a mega swarm base is possible thanks to Drones that will place buildings for you. You only have to copy and paste, and they will do the rest.
Defend or attack. As your hive grows, so will the creep generated from your buildings will spread further and further. A robotic civilization living on the planet will form waves to attack your base. You must take care of them, or they will take care of you. Bloodflies and Feastlings may be used to overwhelm your foes. Remember, quantity over quality is the way of the swarm.
Multi-threaded core gameplay loop. That's right. For fans of technical implementations, this game is designed to work not only on lower end machines, but also scale up the more cores your CPU has.

Add, remove or modify any recipe, building, unit and technology with integrated mod tools. Add your own basic or advanced scripts to run on top of the game's code easily. Modding Swarmdustry will feel very familiar if you've modded games before. You can upload to Steam workshop directly from within the game and even play with mods offline!

I went into this expecting another factory game, but the whole organic approach makes it feel pretty different. Watching the swarm expand and slowly taking over more space is oddly satisfying. Also, the fact that your workers are actual little creatures makes losing track of what everyone is doing surprisingly easy. 😂
The second you unlock flying snatchers to move stuff over terrain obstacles, your layout options explode. Really clever logistics layer.
The whole “bugs running a factory” idea sounded ridiculous until I saw it working. Now I want more bugs. This is how they get you.

I have spawned over 800 of these Assembly-line worker/walker yet I can only see like 20 of them, this game is bugged
Okay, building a factory out of bugs is actually genius 😂
i have zero clue what i am doing but there are hundreds of little bug workers running everywhere carrying coal and obsidian. game runs buttery smooth too, no lag at all even with the swarm getting massive.
Zooming out and watching glowing fireflies and hundreds of bug workers scuttling across your base is pure eye candy.
Pros: bug factory Cons: now I care about optimizing the jobs of imaginary bugs 10/10 management problems.
This game feels like Factorio where you have to build up the basic functionality of power lines and belts piece by piece. Things break in ways that they wouldn't in Factorio or other factory games, so it gives it a unique feel. You really feel the story's theme of "we're screwed, but we have to make do with what we have and try to progress". Having the building that makes the research items also do the research is an interesting idea, really feels clean. The second tier of tech is harder to get in this game than factorio, but it feels good to get it. The walls and towers you get early are so bad you wouldn't even consider cannon rushing like you can do in Factorio, at least not yet. Early game you feel like you're getting crushed by the enemies superior tech, but you can catch up and dominate eventually. If I could describe it in one word I'd call it fulfilling. Unlocking tech is harder than in Factorio, but you really feel satisfied when you unlock stuff. The basic towers you get at the start are pretty bad, but as you get better tech you really feel yourself getting stronger. Overall the game ran smooth, no lag spikes yet. (Also I had 14 hours in the demo BTW) Would recommend, very fun. Can't wait for Space-Swarm-Age or whatever else is next for this game.
Tiny bugs: doing honest work Me: redesigning their entire industrial complex for the 6th time Honestly a very productive afternoon.
