Excellent top-down rogue-like horror shooter, maybe the best I've tried so far, at least for my personal taste. In my opinion, three features in particular stand out in this game: - it is the typical game that is easy to learn but hard to master. The mechanics are intuitive and player-friendly, but if you want to succeed you still need a lot of experience, because the difficulty raises pretty fast, so you need to learn asap what skills you need to upgrade according to your favorite playstyle. You can even choose to specialize in a particular weapon, and increase its efficiency at the cost of a decreased efficiency of all the others. I particularly appreciate this feature, because it allows me to fully concentrate in making my shotgun a formidable weapon - the horror atmosphere is really well designed. The setting is reminiscent of classic horror movies, the enemies are truly terrifying, and the constant darkness makes every single encounter particularly adrenalinic, because enemies could pop out of nowhere at every single instant. Of course you have your flashlight to brighten your day, and you can even slow down the enemies with it, another fun and brilliant feature that will make your life much easier - even if you die, every single run counts. Not just because you get better as a player, but also, and most importantly, because every time you accomplish a particular task, such as killing a certain number of monsters in a particular way, you get rewarded with a new perk that will be made available for the following runs. So your efforts will never be wasted, every single run will be easier than the previous, and this is maybe the most important thing that makes this game so fun and addictive Overall, I DEFINITELY recommend this game if you like this specific genre. Just pick it and prepare for a thrilling old-school horror experience! Cheers guys!
I could only play for a short time because this game devoured my GPU (RTX 2060). My entire computer locked up the first time I played. The game needs way better optimisation. Play it at your own risk. Atmosphere 9/10 The atmosphere sells this game. Its not just spooky but it also enhances the gameplay. Unfortunately, I had to run everything on medium because its not optimised very well. Effects 7/10 For what the game offers, the effects are nice and the bloom isn't blinding. The effects contracts well against the spooky atmosphere. Gameplay 5/10 You can only pick up one gun at a time so there's never any reason to use any other gun except the automatic rifle. The controls are a little deceptive because your shots don't go directly towards the cursor. I would also like to request the hotkey overlay on the UI. I kept throwing molotov's because i instinctively press left shift when i want to sprint, even tho that's not part of the base functions. Sound and Music 8/10 Sounds are somewhat immersive but also repetitive. The music is cool and contrasts well against the spooky vibes.
A fun, promising little indie game with a great atmosphere. I haven't had a chance to finish it yet, but it's off to a promising start.
Sneak forward to some loot. Getting ambushed by firethrower monsters. Slalom in panic between explosions. Go straight towards a very unfriendly golem. Run away, panic and die. Ok, keep a cool head. I want to do this again.
I was a bit scared the game could be a bit too dark by the screenshots but you get used in no time and it brings a lot to the game mechanic and atmosphere. It's really a great roguelite top down shooter with a unique setup. I'll surely will keep an eye on this game !
tl:dr This game needs more work before I can recommend it. While the core gameplay is nice (basically a roguelike Top-Down Shooter with limited looting) there's a few things that drag the game down really bad. - Performance is bad. Game autoset itself to max graphics with 75% res scale when I first started it (really?). Ingame the performance isn't great fps-wise (but acceptable for a cheap steam game) but you have stutters every few seconds which are very distracting and annoying. - Input feels really sluggish. There's atleast some smoothing going on with all inputs you do in this game. This itself is not really a problem, but when your only real way to see is using your flashlight, you feel like you get stripped of your control to play/see the game. This might be due to the fact that this game is intended to be played with controller, no idea. On keyboard/mouse it just doesn't feel right, theres no "snappiness" to your aiming so every movement feels like your lagging behind and miss the next thing on screen - Your Crosshair is red and a few "events" in the game make a large portion of your screen also red, so you can't see it sometimes. - You have very little feedback of hitting enemies. Yes, there's a sound, but it's way to quiet in the mixture of the same 2min music loop, atmospheric sounds and your own walking/shooting. I had to keep watching every enemy after shooting it to make sure it really died. Just add some visual feedback. A white glow when you damage an enemy and an orange one when it's really dead, idk I'm not the developer of this game... This is not a bad game, don't get me wrong. But for the price you're better off getting a game like "20mins till dawn" which offers a very refined game mechanically plus the fun option to try out new builds. This game lacks content and a lot of work on the technical side. When I can notice all the flaws with this game in the playtime I got I refuse to believe that the devs didn't notice it during developing.
Nicely tense gameplay with a satisfying roguelite progression. A fun game to play :ok_hand: The devs were very responsive during playtest and I believe the tidbits here and there needing small polish will be adressed in time =)
Bon courage a tous peace.
If you're lookin' for another Vampire Survivors like then here ya go. In this game darkness is not ur friend. The flashlight is king here. The gameplay is nice once ya get a few rounds under the belt. Surprisingly when ya unlock an ability it can be used immediately when you try again as a loadout. Not a bad title for the money. you know what? Swarm Survivor is EXCELLENT. a well done top down shooter that really adds that horror feel with each run you do, and it wasn't a sense of being annoyed you had to repeat, I ran the game back a few times out of enjoyment for the darkness and horror played it enough to 100%; only wish y'all had another map so I could send some more :P and if you ever do add DLC/or more content I'll be back to play it! if you enjoy horror, shooters, roguelites and top downs this is a perfect blend of it all
