I had a slow start with Super Roboy, but once I got the hang of the mechanics and rhythm of the game I ended up having a lot of fun. I finished with 100% (well, 101%) completion, which isn't something I do with a lot of games. The strongest aspect of the game for me was all of the skills you earn and the process to unlock them. In the most positive way possible, this game feels like it was designed by a kid who tried to cram every cool idea and design he had into one video game. Sometimes doubling back to an area can feel like a chore (even in a metroidvania), but it's well incentivized in Super Roboy. I also found the menu system to be incredibly useful- there are a lot of things to keep track of in this game, but I never felt lost because it was all captured in the menus. There are some minor things that I found annoying- placing map markers being a bit of a convoluted process is one that sticks out- but overall I would recommend the game to any metroidvania fan.
Fantastic game! Was hooked immediately. Loads of fun upgrades, nice level design. Perfectly represents what's great about the Metroidvania genre.
At first,I really didn’t like the game. The skill acquisition and getting the hang of certain aspects, could be a bit jarring. It’s not your usual metroidvania , with how the systems all works. Plus, at first every enemy can be a troublesome bullet sponge, especially if you aren’t leveled up enough, have the necessary skills to progress. It can still be done, through sheer determination and skill, but once you get the hang of it all and figure it out, it’s ridiculously addictive. It’s probably one of the only MV’s that I 100% on my first play through. I enjoyed playing it so much, that I meticulously scoured every inch of the game, going for unlocking every single ability and skill, completing absolutely everything. I love that the game makes that easy for a player to do, if they put in the effort and time. Your unlocked skills and abilities are what truly dictates how hard the game will be for you. I’m an extremely meticulous player, so I kill everything in sight, look for secrets, so unlocking level ups and abilities went fairly quickly, and began drastically changing the dynamics of the game. It went from taking extreme effort to down simple enemies, to rolling over everything in my path. It always keeps a good balance though, and will still challenge you. I would’ve loved to have seen more underwater levels,an overall larger world, and it to be a longer game. That’s not a complaint, that’s just means that I really didn’t want it to end. Hopefully, we’ll get DLC,a sequel, more games from this talented developer. The story behind The inspiration for the game, is extremely touching, and made me want to buy it even more. I’m a massive fan of sci-fi metroidvania, especially when they pay such wonderful homage to Metroid as this does. Honestly, the games version of a screw attack, controlled and felt better to play than even in Metroid dread. There were a few areas in the game that had me screaming obscenities, could’ve had their hit detection and penalty tweaked a bit, but it’s still entirely fair, if not sadistically so. You’ll know exactly which one’s I’m talking about when you get there lol, but thankfully, they’re optional and can be abandoned, if you decide to walk away for the sake of your own sanity. But thankfully and wonderfully, the game gives you every single tool necessary to succeed and excel, which is an increased rarity these days. I can’t recommend the game enough to absolutely everyone, regardless of what type of games they’re into. It’s the perfect marriage of mega man and Metroid, has excellent art, excellent game play, controls, and overran execution. I very much look forwards to more games from this developer. Played on my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. Performed flawlessly.
decent enough design, but the world was just too boring. i made through four biomes and everything looked the same. that being said, i dont not recommend it? with the caveat that it is not a bad game, just an uninspired one that i lost interest in
A must have metroidvania! Its level design and upgrades are one of a kind. I loved this game and I hope one day it can be ported to other platforms so everyone can enjoy it!!
Had a lot of fun 100% this game. Fluid movements, fun upgrades and nice exploration.
nie exploration, tight controls, standard metroidvania skills. I'm not very good at boss fights, but I managed on normal difficulty.
Excellent metroid-like. The skill system is very unique, the music is good, cute and competent graphics, and the moment to moment gameplay is very fun. The story is pretty well done, having a Saturday morning cartoon vibe. Selecting the hard difficulty provides a good challenge without being frustrating. If you like metroidvanias, 2D shooters, or just a good game, you can't go wrong with this one! The fact that it was made by only one developer makes it even more impressive!
Excellent game. Very fun to play, easy to sink hours into the game. Good exploration and great overall gameplay. I’ve been having a lot of fun playing this on my Steam Deck and Odin 3.
Interesting little thing. I appreciate sticking to the Metroid ethos of having character upgrades build upon each other combined with the Zelda 2 style leveling system, the moment-to-moment gameplay was pretty fun (the target attacks build up by dealing damage are an especially nice touch), and I rather liked the story (people who know what a KOLM is may see some similarity, but it takes a different direction) and the comic book cutscenes that presented it. I'd throw it on the pile of MV recommendations for sure.
