About

Super Indie Karts is a classic retro '90s style karting game featuring a large curation of Indiegame karts and Indiegame themed race tracks, in both the 16-bit flat Super style and the 64-bit low poly Ultra style. With Time Trials, Grand Prix, Splitscreen GP, Quick Race, Mission Mania, and a few Battle Modes.. there's plenty of ways to tackle the tracks!

Indie Crossovers so far include: - Nitromeland - Mission In Snowdriftland - Clive'N'Wrench - ToeJam & Earl: Back In The Groove - Burrito Bison - Mutant Mudds - Runbow - Freedom Planet - Teslagrad - Fist Of Awesome - Read Only Memories 2064 - Canabalt - Duck Game - Toto Temple Deluxe - Knightmare Tower - Aegis Defenders - Shutshimi - Cross Code - Guacamelee! - and many more to come! With over 48 tracks currently ready to race on, in 4 speed classes, plus mirror mode, there'll also be plenty of achievements and unlocks to keep you drifting and burning pixel rubber 'till the pixelated billboard sun goes down!
With one foot firmly in the past, witness authentic '90s hardware limitations such as:
Super Style
shockingly bad draw distance!
fast, incredibly small, almost claustrophobic, tracks!
trees and obstacles that pop up 5 yards in front of you!
Ultra Update
increased draw distance and track area size!
large open anti-gravity racetracks that corkscrew and loop-de-loop into the skies!
more cranked up than a joypad with a double wedgie!
Retro Sensibilities
World leading watermelon physics engine! (featuring Watermelon Blast Processing!)
1992 style screen curvature and motion blur! (optional)
Indie Game crossovers you know and love, and some you don't yet know you love!
More info on the final game:
Play as some super Indie Game characters, coming to battle it out in some super Indie Game themed tracks! It might get a little bumpy out there as there are plenty of weapons on the track to spin you out: Meloons, Exploding Pangapples, Slippy Gelatos, Heat Seeking Loconuts, Giant Halloween Pumpkings, Mutant Tomms, Beeta Blockas, and 3 different strength Chilli Boosts!
The game was KickStarted late in 2014 and is aimed for completion in 202x. You don't have to wait until completion though as you can join in now with Early Access! The EA game currently boasts over 30 characters, with 32 Super tracks, 12 Ultra (64) tracks, and 4 Advanced tracks, 48 in total, with 16 more tracks to come, to play Single Player or 2/3/4 Player Splitscreen in Grand Prix mode (and in Mirror Mode), in Time Trials, and 9 arenas in Battle Mania which recently went through a serious overhaul. More characters, tracks, and features will be added as the Early Access months drift on by.

i cannot recommend this, since dev rarely updates the game, and has been clear about lacking interest in offering features that could actually make this game attractive for players (ie "online vs" and "steam workshop", so players could add more maps and characters, even if dev is unable to), which could improve sales to have the funds needed to hire help and speed up development, if the main goal was to complete this product. if you want to try a "retro style" kart game that even if a bit shorter, has other interesting features, better performance, and 100% free ("donationware") you could try "nightmare Kart" https://store.steampowered.com/app/2930160/Nightmare_Kart/ maybe also "the karters", because even if it has a small audience, it offers mods, which helps to keep it interesting. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2269950/The_Karters_2_Turbo_Charged/
I don't know what was up with setting up controllers, but it was an absolute crapfest - when I set a controller on player 2 it still didn't work, and I had to manually go through and set all the actions one by one. Making it worse, the controls setup menu lists like "UI button 1, UI button 2" and then when you're in the UI it's like "press X to do so and so" but now X is A because who knew what "button 1" was? So all the controls aren't what you expect even in the UI, and then it doesn't get much better in the game. The actual driving part I think was reasonably analogous to Mario Kart, and once I figured out that you have to jump over the gaps in the rainbow run that seemed like a pretty reasonable feature (also once I figured out what my keyboard jump key was because, again, the controls were unintuitive and not introduced even when they *didn't* require manually setting up one by one). But! The maps are hideous, very easy to get turned around, and there's no strong indication when you're going the wrong way. The third map, I think, the one before rainbow run, is especially gross, with sometimes you're supposed to drive on black mesh, and sometimes you're supposed to drive on grey track and the *walls* are black mesh. Overall, I think this might be a decent game for a group of people who are really into the genre, and maybe once you've painstakingly got it set up to work properly it might be less frustrating, but it's pretty bad if you just want to play it with someone casually.
A fascinating look into the indie scene of a decade ago. It's missing a blue shell.
SNES-style sprites on N64-style tracks. Power-ups are basically what you'd expect. Fantastic karter that keeps improving on itself. No gripes. Just go have some nostalgia-fueled fun.
Just like Mario kart but fast paced, the stages are nice and the music. A bunch of characters as well.
I just got this game, it's so fire, hopefully there will be some more features when it comes out of early access
Great racing game, plays like classic kart racers like Super Mario Kart with modern drift boosts and loads of fun additions. It's amazingly fun and blends sprite work and 3d tracks.
i just purchased this game for sash lilac and its a really mid game, if you are a freedom planet fan please play dr Robotnik Ring racers with zao's boost brigade mod
It's pretty good /10
