Sunset Drive

This was a very interesting, cute, and relatively short game. One playthrough for me was give or take half an hour, and it seems I’ll have to do one or perhaps a few more to pick up some missed achievements. Something I will do eventually, since I’m not that amazing at playing narrative thingies back-to-back if it’s ‘only’ to pick up missing achievements. But my preference in this doesn’t make this game any less great! The gameplay is pretty simple and laid back; you see a couple driving in the car, animated, and you go through a conversation. From time to time, you pick a reply, and depending on that reply, it seems you’ll end up in locations (or skip them). Once you’ve arrived at one, you solve a beautiful and easy jigsaw puzzle, and the story continues, back on the road, back to having small talk and onwards to the next location. All the way till you reach the end destination. Sometimes, I didn’t understand the conversation or why it went the way it did, and I think this might be due to a few mistranslations. But in the end, I did get the bigger picture of what they wanted to tell. And it’s lovely they implemented a way to look back, which routes and things you’ve done and which you haven't tried, so you can keep that in mind for the next playthrough. The hand-drawn, painterly comic-book-inspired art style was also an absolute standout for me. The colourful, vibrant artwork really set the fun, vibey mood for me. But I do have a point of critique on the sound. It’s a very lovely one, but my lord, how it got repetitive after a while. I wish there were a little bit more variation there. In the end, as simplistic as it looks and perhaps is, it’s still a cute little gem worth playing through if you like narrative things and don’t mind the occasional jigsaw puzzle to break things up a little. So, I give it a thumbs up for being cute and bite-sized, which made it perfect for the quiet evening I’ve played it on with a cup of tea, doing nothing but submerge myself into this one, sit back, and relax. Sometimes, it simply doesn’t have to be more than that. A short and very simple game about a father and daughter traveling together. As they travel along the road, dialogues between the two protagonists are echoed, which will certainly help us get to know them better. There are multiple responses, so we can choose what to say, which changes the route traveled and the ending. Every time you stop, you can admire the scenery and complete the puzzle by adding the missing pieces. Don't like the pink car? No problem; you can change it to other colors and models from the menu. The game can be replayed as many times as you like, and there's an album where you can see all the places you've visited and play the puzzles. The music is very pleasant to listen to. Seems cute enough from what I could see without being able to make it through a whole playthrough. I can only play for very short periods right now, and there's NO SAVE FUNCTION at all. No sound settings or any options other than English vs. Japanese language. The music was kinda cute in a retro sort of way I guess, but I didn't feel like it so I had to mute my whole system to turn it off. No idea if there'd be any sound effects. The dialogs I got to see were mostly couples' banter, with a mix of comically exagerrated (I hope LOL) and a bit relatable. My favorite thing was the gallery you unlock, presented on a road map. I appreciate the idea, but I'd strongly recommend some more programming effort to make this game more accessible and convenient to play. Okay, so I’m writing this after getting the OTHER ENDING. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything. From the first playthrough, I had a feeling this game might have multiple endings. So I kinda just skimmed the dialogue and went with whatever choices the game threw at me. Then I started trying different options, which unlocked more puzzle mini-games. After a few replays, I kept getting the same ending. At that point, I was mostly playing just to see all the dialogue options and unlock all the locations in the album, mainly so I could play the full jigsaw puzzle. Eventually, I managed to unlock everything… and that’s when I got the other ending. And wow. That one hit different. It made me pause and think... Have I really been paying attention to the people around me? Am I taking those little, forgettable family moments for granted? After reading through all the conversations properly, I’m honestly thinking I should go on an actual road trip with my family some time soon. Things I love about this game: + Super chill and calming. It's great for unwinding. + The art is gorgeous. The puzzles seriously look like paintings. + The music is cute and cozy. I didn’t get tired of either the road trip or puzzle themes. + The conversations feel super natural. They feel like real people chatting on a long drive.

Sunset Drive is a sweet, short narrative jigsaw game, approx 30/40 mins in length. You’re on a roadtrip with your friend, and stop at various places on the way to the beach. You complete a jigsaw puzzle at each stop to complete the scene. The artwork is really pretty. The English translation is not the best, but it’s endearing and you get the idea. Sometimes it’s a little hard to spot the places for missing jigsaw pieces, their outlines could be a little more clear, but overall it’s a sweet, short and very cosy game ♥

Highly recommended! I really enjoyed my short journey in Sunset Drive, the dialogue is funny and incredibly relatable, it had me smiling more than once. The vibe throughout the game is warm and reflective, perfect and cute at the same time. The font choices blends perfectly with overall atmosphere, and the bgm and art are absolutely beautiful. The UI is also clean and easy to understand, making the whole experience feel smooth, if you guys into narrative game driven and puzzle (that mainly focus on emotions and meaningful conversation), this one's a must play!!!

People usually see cars as a symbol of moving up in life. But in this game, the car feels more like a quiet space where you can slow down, reflect on things, and reconnect with someone close.
