Sunday League Manager: Horse and Spoon

Played just under an hour of this and im so hooked. Its not like your FM games, its simple, easy to play, fun, and with pub teams, players with regular jobs. Its such a good game and an absolute bargain at £1.25

This is an innovative concept that redefines, at least conceptually, the soccer management games we're used to. The idea of coaching a group of ordinary people who have ordinary jobs, to compete in a regional tournament is, in my opinion, brilliant. The managerial aspect isn't as deep as in other similar titles, but that doesn't make it any less fun. We can decide whether to train players as a group or individually, or go for a drink at the pub to increase team's bonding. Then there's also the micromanagement of finances (to which we can even contribute with our own salary, lol), negotiations with sponsors, developing of training facilities, and much more. The tactical aspect is pretty basic and it is limited to choosing from 6 preset formations. In addition to that there are sideline instructions such as "push up", "defend" and "waste time", which are pretty straight forward. The game engine is event-based (text + a static dot indicating the player in possession). Overall, it's a game with huge potential and a developer who listens to the community and considers their suggestions, so I can only recommend it.

It's early days for this game , but it already has the basis for great pick up and play game. No longer will I be trawling the transfer market for the the CB i desperately need. He's in the pub playing with my hamster already! The game is very much a work in progress, but is quite playable and is constantly updated at them moment. Worth a punt.

Even if it cost you a round at The King's Head, you’d still consider it an absolute steal. It’s a ridiculous bargain. Right, now we can talk about the actual game. This title perfectly captures the glorious, slightly dodgy world of pub league football, the kind where a post-match meeting at The Horse & Spoon is mandatory to lift the spirits. It beautifully smashes that gritty reality together with the best parts of old-school Football Manager. The result is a clean, deep, and utterly addictive management experience. It perfectly captures the spirit of those classic browser games like Sunday League, but with a depth that hits you like a cheap pint. Forget torn ligaments; in this world, car trouble, urgent family commitments, and a monumental hangover are the true threats to your team sheet. Car trouble or a family commitment on the morning of the match is far more feared than a two-month injury lay-off. Likewise a particular heavy session at the pub the night before under the guise of 'team bonding'. The system is surprisingly deep beneath the retro veneer. You've got solid finance mechanics (negotiate those sponsorship deals like your life depends on it with the help of your friendly star striker), the crucial facility improvements, a scouting system that feels meaningful, team and individual training options, position change training, and fan attendance directly linked to your success. Add in the off-pitch chaos: pub trips, gambling, aggressive youth poaching, and the unique ability to choose your own outside profession for a sneaky cash injection, and you realise this game understands the pub league grind. Honestly, this is pure football management fun delivered with a clean UI and a massive hit of nostalgia: the 2D match engine is a spiritual successor to FM's greatest days. Stop reading this. Go grab your wallet. For less than the price of some watered down swill at The Lamb & Flag, you’re getting a management experience with hidden depth. It's an absolute bloody steal.

What a bargain. Couldn't allow myself to be ripped off by that woke disaster FM26, so went with this instead. More fun and it cost a quid!

An entertaining game, with the creator listening to all feedback and improving on the game engine and features regularly. Sure there is a few issues but they are getting ironed out, think of this as a playable alternative to the car crash that FM has become. Overall, well worth the couple of quid, even if you only play it for a few hours, money well spent. A solid game thats improving, looking forward to see whats in the pipeline..

I don't follow soccer and had no idea what I was doing but love the social aspect to this one- not just tactics on field but managing team texts, morale at the pub, all around full time jobs. One minute you’re down the club playing cards with the lads, the next you’re watching your side get thumped 5–0 by your fiercest rivals and wondering where it all went wrong. It’s got the highs, the lows, and all the graft in between. And the best part? It’s been built by one lad, one, who actually listens to feedback. None of that corporate nonsense or PR spin. Just a bloke who loves football and wants to make the best management experience he can. If you’ve fallen out of love with the so-called “big leagues” of [i]Football Management[/i], this is the perfect comeback story. It’s indie, it’s honest, and it plays like the real thing. Absolute must for any gaffer who knows it’s not about the money -it’s about the passion.

The ME needs seriuos working, a lot of random shoots from long distances, too many goals wasted, the passings are almost non existant, no build up play whatsoever. I know it's sunday league, but i'm sure that they can play much more coherently thant this in real life. The scores are way too low, 1-0 1-1 2-1, when in reality they ususally scores a lot of goals. Can't recommend it in the current state.

A beautiful respite and nostalgic endorphin hit for those that remember old champ management games. It’s a super easy pick-up and play management game that gets you straight into the action. Some playful notes help personalise your experience and build some memorable laughs as your dog runs away and it spurs the team on. There are subtleties here that feel fresh and memorable. There is also a layer of old-school approach to the game that alleviates the experience; this isn’t a hardcore *look up/download tactics to never lose/must force close because I refuse to lose 4-0* type of game. It’s relaxed and simple in a positive and refreshing way. It is not bogged down by menu after menu of infuriating options, spending hours managing every component to lose because the opposite had 2 changes all game. It’s about taking over a pub team and trying to win everything whilst having fun along the way. It’s simple options providing engaging fun. The game is also constantly updated and the dev is active in improving and taking on feedback. It’s also only a few quid. Buy it, download it, have a laugh whilst also supporting indie devs.
