Played Wartile already and this game adds a lot of features as well as variety. Many different enemies, ambience and battle situations. The graphics are beautiful and matches the games theme nicely. I like it.
Really enjoyable game so far. Feels better to play than Wartile which I also liked.
Crashes all the time
If you're just looking for a very simple, casual, strategy-lite game, you may enjoy this, but I still recommend a sale. The strategy is the same every combat. Kite the enemies to a good position (i.e. take high ground) and then just win by letting them fight. Sometimes you need to click a button for an ability. It's really very straightforward with minimal strategic decisions. One thing in particular that bothers me is the extreme simplicity of the items. There's a bunch of armor that have the same defense but provide different special damage type resistances. Then there's a set of rings that also each provide a special damage type resistance. Then there's a set of weapons, one for each weapon type, that do 1-2 damage more than the default weapon for each character. Then there's maybe half a dozen more items that are very basic and uninteresting. There's maybe one interesting item. It's also somewhat telling that there is a game hint displayed on the loading screen but there's only actually one hint that ever gets shown. I strongly suspect that the developer stopped game design early for some reason and just never got the rest of the content they wanted into the game. It's just extremely basic.
Jumped into Successor for the 1.0 launch today — completely fresh player, never touched early access — and I’m really impressed so far. The visuals instantly hooked me. The miniature-style diorama boards look incredible, and the camera angles make it feel like you’re playing inside a handcrafted tabletop world. Combat is easy to learn, but surprisingly tactical once you start pausing and positioning your units — and yes, you can kick enemies off cliffs (and it never gets old). I love that each campaign has its own challenges, gear rewards, and random events that make every run different. The sound design and music really bring the world to life too. For around $17, it already feels like a full tactical RPG experience with tons of replay value. If you like D&D-style strategy or tactical games with personality, this is absolutely worth checking out. (I also shared my full first impressions on YouTube for anyone curious about the early campaigns — just search “Successor 1.0 Launch – Fresh First Impressions” and you’ll find it!)
Game starts now and I'm enjoying so far. Thanks devs for your efforts here. Will update my review soon. --I'd say it's definitely worth it to pick this one up now if you're interested in computer table-top games. Along with Wartile, this team puts out the best that's out there and the price is reasonable in this niche genre. Hope to see continued improvement, but my hope is the game will sharpen up also as this small team works on it, which I think they'll do. It's not Demeo-Lvl production value, but it's in a genre where it doesn't have many challengers either. If you like table top strategy and can deal with the RTS Pause system, it's a fine deal overall, and I suspect their sales pick up after Demeo DxD launches to acclaim. The genre is ripe for growth and this team can ride that with this game, which is good if not quite great yet. they can take it there though!
Muy buen juego viejo!
I was a big fan of Wartile years ago and couldn't wait for them to release a spiritual 'Successor' to that game. Gear has been reduced to three slots, would love to see that expanded on for more customization, but love the work they've done with the abilities and skill trees. The biggest issue I've seen is the limited gear you can take into the final fight of a given map/adventure. it's one thing to limit carryover between sections/chapters etc, but you should be able to carry into the final fight with the gear you've found and chosen. Looking forward to hundreds if not more hours ahead here. Thank you Playwood!
Great real time mixed with tactical pausing game.
Overall I think it's a solid game that's worth the price. The various characters have well thought-out skill trees and most of the maps are about the size I'd want them to be. It feels a little buggy but it hasn't broken immersion for me at all (I haven't had any GPU issues though).
