A fun TD game with lots of different play styles available! Do I go for resources or upgrade my nodes first? Gold or restauration? What about sending my workers on a raid? To be fair, it is a pretty hard game but I will continue the grind, unlocking more tech and hopefully beat the game!
I bought this yesterday and I'm already at 8 hours played. For 2.99 (at sale) that's a bargain! Combines rogue-lite and TD in an interesting way, and for me it had that "Just one more run" appeal after every run. It would have been fun to see different starting hands (like for instance not always just starting with the regular tower, or trading a mining station for lumber etc.), and perhaps getting a small random bonus in your starting hand if you managed to push the fog back in your previous run (like in Slay the Spire run), just so you're more likely to stay in the run longer even if you have some unlucky early RNG. But over all it's a fun game, especially for the price! :)

An old concept with a twist which makes it quite fun
Pretty fun game, with a decent primary game play loop of building up, fighting, getting overwhelmed, die, upgrade repeat. It is fun, and I recommend it. Reminds me of Hades in its Rouge like structure, as in a rouge like which you are meant to finish. As the upgrades between runs grants you the boost needed to win. Dying is apart of the story the game is telling of unbeatable odds and how only a nation that would be inhospitably prepared for the events of the game could stand a chance. It gives the main "villain" a form a menace. Not super long, but that just means it doesn't out stay it's welcome. I recommend picking it up for the price.
I found the game engaging and addictive. I do get frustrated with rogue games but this one isn't any more frustrating than others. As far as bang for your buck, I like buying these indie games. It took me 14.9 hours to beat the game, at $5.40 with tax that comes to $0.36 per hour. So I'd say well worth the money. I'm missing 2 achievements so will definitely play some more.
Just one of these random luck games. Start a new game. No loop in the track? restart game no loop restart game got a loop You don't buy towers, you get them randomly. Then you have to re-roll, using gold, if you don't get what you want. Spent your gold re-rolling? Now you're behind and almost guaranteed to lose. You could easily take on half this game with two trebuchet towers but good luck getting those to appear. Half the time, they won't even give you towers or they'll give you upgrades for towers you don't even have. The only skill based thing here is knowing that you need to spend all of your upgrade points to clear the corruption. These are the same upgrade points that you use to upgrade your towers so if you do upgrade your towers you lose. Why? If you don't clear the corruption fast enough, monsters get double health/armor if you take too long clearing the corruption and you basically lose. It's just not really skill based and not fun by extension. If you could pick the towers and upgrades you wanted instead of getting them randomly then you could beat this game really quickly. So then you're just playing until you get the right spawns. There's tower defense games like gem defense that, although random, still let you feel like you can wing it with some bad gem spawns but not here.
It's not a bad game, it's very basic and linear so you pretty much know what you're getting when you buy it. There is a major balancing issue in the game though, even after achieving all technology upgrades the game is exceptionally difficult to win, it's virtually impossible to reach a level of resource management to cope with the armies especially in later levels, and a lot of the game depends on luck such as spawning in a favourable map, having your explorers gain resources quickly on explorable nodes which claim to have a 50% success rate which goes up by 10% each time you attempt it, but seems tipped to fail far more often than the 50% success rate would have you believe, and also the ability to gain new towers or research in the game which again is dependent on luck of the draw, you should ALWAYS have an option of at least ONE tower when you reach max wood, but you sometimes have to re-roll multiple times which costs 2 gold each time costing incredibly scarce resources because if you don't have enough towers you are doomed. The amount of resources you need each time you place a building also doubles each time, and quickly reaches a level that is simply not possible to reach without sending out workers to explore nodes, but you desperately need to keep those workers in your towers to boost their attack otherwise you will get flattened before the slime boss shows up. Ultimately I would not recommend this game in its current state because it's not fun, it's frustrating. I hope the developer rebalances the game, at which point I will of course change my review.
The game is pretty meh, especially the roguelite part. Many upgrades are just "unlock the possibility to get this ultra-rare building (that is actually not that good) in end-game, when you are already on a winning pace" and this feels frustrating. There are those "clouds of corruption" in the map that you can purify, but that is almost never worth it, because you need all the purification power you can get to win the game. There are some random bonus objective (that you can unlock in the upgrades) that pop on the map, but their numbers is inconsistent, and also why the f*** would you put some in the zone that uncovers ONLY after beating the game? All in all, this was disappointing. Also quite short (beat the game in less than 4h), but still repetitive.
I've found this game quite enjoyable. You get good value for the price! The game is progressively more and more fun to play as you lock up new items in the tech tree. It's a nice and relaxing way to spend your time.
