Hailed as the original FPS-RPG game that spawned countless imitators, Strife: Veteran Edition is a love letter to the classic from 1996.

Замечательный ремастер нереально интересного шутера опередившего время! Хоть и один из первых от Найтдайвов и следом не такой навороченный.
I think the devs who made this are fine, but the current heads at their publisher, Nightdive, are morally bankrupt.
I only discovered Strife thanks to Ross Scott’s excellent Game Dungeon episode, and what a hidden gem this turned out to be! Starting with nothing but a knife and trying to take down guards with guns is a bizarre introduction, but once you push past that rocky start Strife becomes a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable experience. The level design is excellent, with most levels feeling more like genuine locations than abstract mazes. The weapon variety is interesting, the combat feels fair, and the game even allows for stealth kills with the knife or poison crossbow bolts. The comic‑book‑style story presentation and NPC interactions adds an additional layer of personality. One of the most enjoyable aspects is exploring areas before alarms trigger, giving you a brief sense of being undercover and letting you learn the layout before the inevitable firefight. It’s hard not to imagine how other shooters of the era could have benefited from similar design ideas. For example, Star Wars: Dark Forces would have been incredible with mechanics like disguises, NPC interactions, or the ability to explore an Imperial base before triggering combat. And Strife accomplishes all of this in the Doom engine! Strife isn’t flawless, but it’s absolutely worth revisiting. Accept that it’s a little rough around the edges, embrace its quirky hybrid design, and enjoy the feeling of uncovering a genuine treasure from gaming history. For anyone who loves shooters with a bit more ambition and world‑building, this is a classic that deserves far more attention.
Rogue Entertainmentin tekemä Doomin moottorilla väännetty FPS löyhillä RPG elementeillä tällä kertaa tosin Nightdive Studiosin KEX-moottorilla ehostettuna. En muista alkuperäisestä pelistä kauhean paljon, koska aikaisempi läpipeluu on vuodelta 1996 tai 1997. Strife sisältää kaikin puolin kiehtovaa maailmanrakennusta, hyvää kenttädesignia, loistavaa taidetta, hemmetin ärsyttäviä vihollisia ja aseita, joita kaipaisin pari erilaista vielä lisää. Kevyttä RPG puolta sentään tarjotaan pienillä vaihtoehtoisilla valinnoilla ja hahmon parannuksilla, mutta RPG on hyvin pelkistettyä. Suosittelen tutustumaan mikäli Doomit, Hereticit ja Hexenit on tullut kolattua läpi kotaisin eikä moditkaan maistu.
only worth playing for historical curiosity, technically inept and thoroughly mediocre
One of the earliest pioneers of 1st person RPGs. A must for anyone a fan of the genre
she strifes in my veteran until i'm edition
A game from 1996 that couldnt beat the competiton at the time (Doom, Hexen, Heretic, Quake, etc) And I can see why. Pros: - Kind of interesting story - Good characters artwork Cons: - Confusing maps - Depressing simple colour palette - unfunny battles against enemies - Too much wandering in base 3/10 game
It's a little too clunky and confusing for me. I think some fun can be had if you go into it with a forgiving attitude and remove expectations that this is on the same level as other titan FPSs of its time. What it tried to do is interesting. If you want to see it, give it a try.
