About
In this epic turn-based multiplayer board game adventure with Strife Lords! Play in 2, 4, 6, or 8 player modes, commanding footmen, spearmen, and a powerful king. Capture farm and mine tiles for gold, control major sites, and outmaneuver your rivals. Strategize to become the ultimate Strife Lord.
In Strife Lords, you must make a strategy to maintain your army and control the board. Capture farm and mine tiles to amass gold, essential for fueling your conquests, as you can't go on the offensive without paying your units off. Footmen are the weakest, but in groups of 3s will be effective in battle. Spearmen are more aggressive, but they have a weaker time on the defensive. Kings are the strongest unit of the time, being strong in offense and defense. They will all die the same ways in battles, if the battle doesn't go your way. Roll the dice to see how many units you placed in a battle will die, and suffer the consequences.
As you navigate the board, form alliances, betray rivals, and outmaneuver your opponents in a quest for dominance over the three main sites to win the game. Will you be aggressive? Or will you slowly chip away at your enemy's units until they have nothing left? There are many different strategies to win. But all that matters is who controls the vital tiles for victory.
Key Features:
Multiplayer Modes: Play in 2, 4, 6, or 8 player modes for diverse gameplay experiences with online play.
Objective-Based Gameplay: Control all three major sites on the board to achieve victory. But how you get there, and what you sacrifice to get there is up to you.
Resource Management: Capture farm and mine tiles to generate gold for your conquests. Units eat up food when you have it when moving, and battles use up fresh steel. Not using those resources will generate gold over time.
Strategic Depth: Form alliances, betray rivals, and outmaneuver opponents in a constantly evolving game.
Graphics: Cell shaded graphics and vibrant 3D models that are good to look at while thinking about your next move.
Music: 2 main tracks to set the mood for you and your opponents.
Perfect for Game Nights: Ideal for friendly competition with online matches.
Warning: Dead PVP Game This game has no meaningful single player content, and no playable PvP servers. There is no functioning PvP population, it's a dead game, and cannot be played as intended.
Strife Lords is a somewhat low-key asset flip. The developer acknowledges that they took assets from other people to make the game, but only loosely credited those asset creators who inadvertently did more work on this "game" than the actual "developer". We are left to wonder who actually created which assets here. If this was done in Hollywood, assuming the developers avoided court, they'd still never be allowed to work in the industry again. Sure, the game licenses (probably) permit the use of the assets in this case, but it's still irksome that the developer did not properly credit which asset creators created which assets. There's also the old axiom... those who can't create game assets properly usually aren't particularly capable of any of the other parts of game development either, which is certainly true for this game. Regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself. And this kind of asset flipping is never successful... this time the "developer", a serial asset flipper pumping a LOT of shovelware onto Steam, made a turn based PvP strategy game. The problem is, obviously, and I must right now admit I haven't played the game myself, is that it CANNOT be played, because there's no players and no AI opponents... yeah, unsurprisingly the developer who had to grab assets from real developers because he couldn't make his own also couldn't work out an AI opponent system for his game made up of other people's stuff. But in my defense, I haven't played this game because this game has NEVER been played!!!. The game requires 2 or more players. SteamDB shows a peak player count of only one person. This has never been played by anyone!!!! Let's go into the usual autopsy for dead PvP games, because that obviously applies here. The developers made the fatal, lazy mistake of believing that PvP, other players, would be an acceptable substitute for doing the difficult job of adding single player level design, storytelling, NPCs and other rich aspects of designed game content to the game. As a result of this choice by the developers, the game has little to no actual interactive game content. It's a little considered fact that the vast majority of PvP only, multiplayer only games fail. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for doing the job of game developers and building a game filled with content. PvP only games must have a huge player base for them to "go viral" and succeed. But with no single player experience to add lasting value to a game, the developers instead chose to bet against all odds that their game would "go viral" without any actual reason for players to want to play the game. Predictably, they lost this bet. The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality which fits with the idea they weren't developed by the game creator... they look like they're "just reasonable enough" to go on sale as part of an asset pack. The issue of asset flipping aside, ultimately the quality of these assets is low and low quality always makes for a less than optimal gaming experience. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 130,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Unethically, the developers have left this on the Steam store in a dead, abandoned and unplayable state (because there's no players and no meaningful single player content). It's the responsibility of the developer to maintain their product, ensure it runs on all modern PCs, or if they determine there's defects and the game doesn't work, or the population dies, they should remove it from sale instead of misleadingly trying to scam gamers into buying knowingly dead/unplayable products. This is harmful to Steam and to gamers, not just because it's a direct and intentional attempt to scam people, but because it takes a share of the marketing space and visibility away from other games. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 130,000+ games on Steam? The developer is deliberately and unethically trying to scam gamers into paying them the ridiculous price of $10 USD for a game they know is abandoned, dead and unplayable. Don't give it to them. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Mirror's Edge", "Grand Theft Auto V" or "Europa Universalis IV". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
