About

Simulate large scale warfare with the armies of antiquity in Strategos. With thousands of men on screen, you can recreate real or speculative historical battles between the major and minor powers of the ancient Mediterranean.
Strategos is an ancients wargame with large scale formation movements and disorder, unordered charges, pursuing, evading, routing and morale shocks, fog of war, terrain effects, flanking and command and control simulations that bring a hardcore tabletop feel to digital, real-time wargaming.
The armies of Strategos span nearly a thousand years of the classical period, from the Hoplites and Immortals of the Persian Wars, to the rise of the Sasanian Empire against Imperial Rome.
An advanced command and control simulation encourages the player to think about the positioning and use of their generals, and when to commit them in order to balance giving orders, sending couriers, providing morale support, and fighting in direct combat.
The game contains over 250 unique units and nearly 120 unique factions, including the various Hellenic Empires, The Achaemenid Persian Empire, Rome and Carthage across different eras, Gallic, Germanic and Iberian tribes, Umbrians, Samnites and other native Italians, the major city states of ancient Greece, the Thracians, and more.
Custom battle options include selection of army lists, allies, units, army sizes, era, map, deployment distance and sides, difficulty, AI type/aggression, whether to use AI at all (alternative is hotseat), and optional randomization of army lists with options to filter random armies by era, importance, and whether they are steppe armies.
Current historical battles include Issos, Trebia, Ilipa, Magnesia, Zama, Adamclisi, Bibracte, Carrhae, Marathon and Raphia. The text-based campaigns currently include the battles of Alexander, Hannibal, the Wars of the Diadochi, the Roman Civil Wars, and the battles of Early Rome and the Peloponnesian War. The map-based campaigns include the First Punic War, the Greco-Punic War, the Pyrrhic War, the Second Macedonian War and the Greco-Persian war, with more to come.

This feels like playing out one of those block battles you see in those old history books. Its absolutely amazing and im so glad I bought this game. Total war aint got anything on this game!

honestly and pleasantly surprise love total war games - got kind of sick of the turn based strategy tho, and wanted something that was mostly a battle simulator. tried "tabletop tavern" but could still just delegate and steamroll thru the game. love TW: Three Kingdoms because of the history it "teaches" Saw this in my discovery queue and said "why not" Not super detailed just yet, but just detailed enough to scratch the itch. Fun learning more about classical age warfare. The idea that orders have to be carried by courier is a really awesome touch, considering theres no way a general in the classical age should be able to instantly tell a unit across the battlefield to go attack another target. One thing that may add a lot of complexity and stress that I noticed in my first playthru - couriers were take the fastest path thru the battlefield, sometimes thru the front line completely unhindered. Id like to challenge the dev to force couriers to take more obsolete, and less dangerous paths. It would also be interesting if, for whatever reason the enemy was able to kill couriers and reduce your ability to share orders with your units on the battlefield. Couriers would then be another unit you need to be mindful off, potentially creating more elaborate manuevers os they can reach your troops without losing their life. I haven't played to look, and I'm looking forward to continue exploring the game.
Ebenfalls kein Total War Vergleich. Eventuell tut sich da ja noch was. Trotzdem habe ich als Vollblutstratege meinen Spaß.
Wonderful tactical RTS game. Battles feel realistic while still being exciting, and the decisions you make as the player are engaging. You won't find yourself simply selecting all your units and right-clicking on the enemy, as you might in other games of this genre. The AI reacts to most situations in a sensible way. The attention to detail given to each of the many included factions is impressive. I look forward to more refined and polished map-based campaigns.
80/100: So far the game mechanics feel smooth. The messenger pony adds a nice touch of realism. After several hours of losing as Alexander at the Battle of Issos, I realized that the orders feel slow but that gives you time to adjust strategy if need be. That slowness and utter confusion of troops if not in generals ear shot is an asset to the game. As a classical antiquity teacher, a few additions would be great. First, Julius Caesar was a great writer (in the 3rd person) and highly detailed. His campaigns through Germany, France and England and his writing of them are legendary. We have amphibious landings at Deal, England and his march through southern England to the Thames. We have sieges on hill forts. We have a lot of awesome source material there to build new campaigns in Strategos. Call it the Conquest of the Britons. I can't wait for more updates. I like being here in the early days to watch the game get bigger and better.
I definitely enjoy this game, have been a long time total war player so I enjoy these kinds of strategic battles. I enjoy the emersion level of the command and dispatch system and a bit of the chaos from units having a bit of autonomy. Some players might not like that loss of control but I differ and think it adds complexity and depth.
good potential game
