Wonderland is my childhood game and I can now play it with 4k resolution, improved graphics, cloud saves and achievements. :)
Very nostalgic for me, my childhood revolved around it. I was thrilled to see the entire trilogy on steam. Only thing: THAT THING... STINKY... He doesn't care if you're happy. This game is CRUEL sometimes... but I love it all the same :3
It's a great release of the original trilogy with some nice QoL features and some new content. But I will say that some of the textures and VFX feel a bit off. They've improved over time, but still feel a bit unpolished. And the A.I. upscaling on the houses in a few levels looks a bit bad. Otherwise, it's a really good game. Worth the 10 bucks and a great experience overall. I hope the Adventures Trilogy gets a release at some point too. Good work!
Fordert die grauen Zellen und macht Spaß!
Wonderland! The first three games have been a part of my life for about as long as I can remember, back when I was just a little kid in primary school. This release is based on a mobile port of the original Wonderland trilogy, which I have tried out before in the past but couldn’t personally get on with due to thinking that the touch screen controls did not mesh well with the games in the slightest. It is for that reason I am glad that they have brought these games over to Steam, as I can now play them anywhere I like on the Steam Deck instead, whether that’s simply downstairs in the living room or on a long car trip. I have never actually finished any of the original Wonderland games as the later puzzles in them genuinely get really complex and super tricky to figure out, but that’s arguably what’s kept me coming back all these years. The games are still as great and as addicting to play as ever, but I do have some major talking points with this rerelease that I need to go over. The biggest one for me right now is that the map screen for Secret Worlds seems to be broken. Any time I complete a level and return to the map screen, the cursor becomes frozen and unable to move. The only method I’ve found to circumvent this is to hold down the Steam button which allows the cursor to move again, but only while that button is being held, so while it can be worked around it is very annoying that such a problem exists at all. The other issue I’ve experienced is the first person view not working as it is supposed to, with the camera constantly turning to the right any time I make the characters move. This doesn’t affect that many levels as only a very very small amount of levels in the Beyond Wonderland mode use it, but they are basically unplayable, and I haven’t found a way to work around this which is really unfortunate. It’s entirely possible that both of these problems may be exclusive to Steam Deck, but l have no way of checking this as I don’t have a regular computer to try them out on. It is also very strange how the levels from the original games are organised here. This problem isn’t so bad as every level is still present and accounted for, but instead of simply letting you jump into one of the three individual games like any other normal rerelease of multiple games would do, you are instead given the options of: Tutorial - the new tutorial levels from Return to Wonderland Deluxe Enter Wonderland - Worlds 1 to 5 from Return to Wonderland Deeper Into Wonderland - Worlds 6 to 10 from Return to Wonderland The Search for the Rainbow Spirits - the new levels from Return to Wonderland Deluxe Back to Wonderland - Worlds 2 to 10 from Wonderland The Playground - World 1 from Wonderland, The Playground from Wonderland and The Playground from Return to Wonderland Secret Worlds - every level from Wonderland Secret Worlds Wonderland 101 - the old tutorial levels from Return to Wonderland Beyond Wonderland - the new levels from Return to Wonderland Platinum and Fifth Anniversary - the fan made levels made for Wonderland’s fifth anniversary I am not sure why they have been split up like this but as a returning player it is very confusing, and for new players who’ve never touched these games before they’ll have no idea which levels came from which games, or that there even were multiple games. It’s a completely unnecessary change to make and I can’t think of any good reason for doing it at all. I am still giving this release a positive review because I love Wonderland and this is a mostly great way to play the original games, especially thanks to the addition of a save state option for each level which comes in very handy on some of the more harder levels, but the first two issues I mentioned seriously need fixing and I hope an update is issued at some point that patches them out. If you’ve never played these games before and are interested, give them a try but do be aware of the first two issues going in if they still haven’t been fixed.
