blue fish yokohama is a grid-based puzzler (grid optional) where you control a fish in a restaurant with the goal of eating all the ramen. top-down/isometric view, the fish can only jump from liquid to liquid, so landing in an already consumed bowl, on the ground or on top of a patron is ill-advised. the default jump distance is 2, but it changes based on the type of ramen you're in. red is spicy, hence the 3-tile distance, yellow is sticky cheese , reducing it to 1. wall-bounce can be utilized to break the cycle. other mechanics are jump pads that can be used over and over, just like the fish bowl, and conveyor belts moving stuff around after every turn. not a whole lot. 50 levels unlocked through branching progression. no timer, move limit or par, just eat everything. there's unlimited undo, works from a fail state. the first click on level reset is also just undo, gotta click twice (except when it works the first time, so it's buggy and/or inconsistent). no keyboard controls or hotkeys, you'll need a mouse to click icons. there are tooltips (only on levels, not in the menus), plus on-screen level numbers and a goal counter. no camera controls but they aren't necessary, the angle doesn't block anything and automatic zoom is handled well, except when it's not. levels always fit the screen, cool, but the camera keeps zooming in on the action and it's incredibly annoying, mostly because it doesn't only happen during the last move to win the level but after a wrong move and on level reset as well. an always stay zoomed out toggle would be a must. really ugly menu but nice voxel graphics, excellent music and you can click things on the levels and see what happens. settings-wise it's a joke. separate toggles, no volumes, no windowed mode, alt+enter only makes a non-resizable window, have to edit the registry to make different resolutions happen. that is all, but all this (2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ toggles) can be accessed while playing a level at least. audio keeps playing when alt+tabbed, should be a toggle for that as well. the game itself is good, not too difficult for the most part but really fun and satisfying to watch a longer jump sequence, when auto-zoom doesn't ruin it, of course. the missing stuff shouldn't be hard to implement, though the developer promised them back in october 2022 and they still haven't made it into the game nearly half a year later, so I'm not holding my breath. the price wouldn't be too bad, but full price should only apply to fully-working games, so currently it's just about recommendable and only on sale. until then maybe check out the demo.
Just a fun little puzzle game for a cheap price. Halfway done at time of review so I imagine its about 1-3 hours depending on how good you are at puzzle games. Price is very fair. As normal with puzzle games like this where you can fly by puzzles pretty quickly, I wish there was a bit more content. But all in all, the game has a lot of charm, a nice aesthetic, and most importantly, is just pure fun.
This is a charming little game with some fun puzzle mechanics. Halfway through, the fun is in playing around with the mechanics. The graphics are also pretty fun. It's not a ground-breaking game or super challenging. But if you enjoy grid-based puzzlers, it's probably worth a try. Note, it doesn't seem to launch on steam deck. Also as far as I can tell it's mouse only, with no option for keyboard. Edit to update: While some puzzles are just trial-and-error bait, there are some really nice puzzles. For example, level 24 takes some true solving.
Blue Fish Yokohama is a very charming little puzzle game. It introduces its features early enought to know what to expect in the levels and doesnt introduce something overly complicated that has to be left out later on to not make levels too complicated. The visuals in the game give it a certain charm and make it feel pretty welcoming in some way. The music is something most people probably wouldnt expect but it fits really well in the context of the game with one song being very quiet but that is not big enough of an issue to distract from the rest of the game. Additionally the price is definitely acceptable for a 50level puzzle game that depending on how good you are at this will take you a few hours. Overall this is a game I would recommend and if you´re on the edge theres always a demo to try out first
Blue Fish Yokohama is an absolutely adorable puzzle game that takes players on a tiny adventure through a bustling ramen restaurant. As a blue fish, you'll navigate your way through a series of challenging and cleverly designed levels by jumping from one bowl of ramen to the next, all while solving a variety of fun and challenging riddles. The game's charming premise, which sees players taking on the role of a plucky little fish in a sea of delicious noodles, is both cute and creative, and the game's cute visuals and matching soundtrack only serve to enhance the overall experience. But it's the puzzles themselves that truly make Blue Fish Yokohama standout for me. Each level presents its own unique challenge and brain-teasing riddle that requires a bit of creative thinking to solve. And while some of the later levels can be quite challenging (LEVEL 48 i see you), the game never feels unfair, and the sense of satisfaction that comes from finally figuring out a particularly tricky puzzle is incredibly rewarding. Overall, if you're a fan of puzzle games or just looking for a fun and engaging way to spend a few hours, Blue Fish Yokohama is definitely worth checking out. For me its amusing concept, charming presentation, and well-designed puzzles make it a cute and refreshing title in the puzzle genre. With an easily understandable gameplay, the 50 levels of fun is definitely worth the money & time.
Short, challenging, and mechanically tight.
A lovely puzzle game where you play a fish with an insatiable appetite. 10/10 would plop again.
This game has some very catchy clever puzzles. Highly recommend for a chill cozy experience. :D
This is a very fun and chill game to play especially with the nice tranquil music in the background. You play as a fish that jumps from ramen bowl to ramen bowl to solve puzzles. There are also neat tricks where you have to bounce off of walls, but it varies on the type of soup you jump into. It has a good amount of challenging puzzles as well to keep you busy and entertained as you play. There are also easter eggs which makes the game more funny and fun (hint hint ketchup). If you're looking for a cheap game to have fun with, relax, and empty your mind then this is your game. Lastly for the music source used in the game check the credits it's listed there or you can just shazam it.
▶️ Gameplay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wXjWkTIBDk&list=PL8dHID1Xu1jcp3j9Z8AKIweYfl3dsawJR&index=2
👍 Pros
+ Cute voxel graphics + Cute sounds/music + Quite straightforward grid-based movement mechanics + You can undo your moves (!!!) to retrace your steps as much as you want + No timers -- take your time to go through each level! + Cozy and safe for work/kids - not stress-inducing if you can't complete it
❗Cons
- While some of the controls are a quite intuitive, some levels completely stumped me (e.g. why is level 5 harder than most of the higher levels?) - Not a lot of textual explanations/labels, e.g. menu buttons don't have labels. I assume this is an aesthetic choice but as someone who's worried/careful about what I'm clicking (lest I accidentally ruin/reset something haha), it's not my favorite UI element. - Stages unlock as you progress, so I couldn't attempt more puzzles because I didn't finish around 6 stages. :(
🤔 Conclusion
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw the game title, but this silly puzzle game got me chucklin' a lot while playing. Figuring out how to solve the puzzles and watching the fish hop around is very amusing. If you enjoy puzzle games with a quirky concept, I recommend it! ˚ ✦ . . ˚ . . ✦ ˚ . ★⋆. . ˚ ✭ * ✦ . . ✦ ˚ ˚ .˚ ✭ . . ˚ . ✦ ⸜(˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ )⸝ `✮´ Hi, I'm Syn and I stream and review cozy indie games! ✍🏻 My other game reviews (curator page): https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44046812/ 🎮 Watch me game (and occasionally do other stuff) here: http://twitch.tv/st_synna ▶️ See my VODs here: http://youtube.com/@st_synna Cheers and have a lovely day!
