Stellar Monarch 2 is a feudal space empire builder where you feel like the Emperor, not a logistics officer. Great noble houses, usurpers to the throne, rebels, assassins, court intrigues, disloyal admirals, incompetent governors and ever-present alien threat.

It sits at an interesting hybrid between a game like CK3 (managing your dynasty, rebellions being one of your biggest threats) and Stellaris (4x in space, aliens to conquer, different planets to push your colonists towards). The theming makes it fit nicely with grand empires like Empire of the Fading Sun or Dune. At the default difficulty things are fairly straight forward. As long as you're paying attention and use the tools available it will be hard to lose the game on "normal" difficulty. The game is built heavily on success/fail spirals. If you do well, that increases the chance of continuing to do well so higher difficulties can put you on a death spiral that will be VERY challenging to pull out from. Overall a solid little 4x game that is different enough in theme and focus to carve a little niche for itself between the titans of space 4X like Stellaris / Gal Civ / SotSE etc.
This is a fun, though simple, game. I like the theme and the game feel. It's a little repetitive if you play several runs back to back as there are not many permutations in terms of galaxy set up, or variety in events. I like to play it when I'm feeling unwell and don't have the energy for more complex games. I enjoyed the previous game in the series too for the same reason. As I write this I have a bad cold and don't have the energy for Europa Universalis, Victoria, or Anno 119. So it's a perfect Stellar Monarch day.
Good smol game. Buy. Support smol indie dev.
Bom
It's bad.
After 12h I finished my first run as the crowned emperor of the most powerful empire in the galaxy, beloved by his people, gruntingly accepted by all the noble house who adored me until I dissolved the high council. All the while there basically no rebels in the empire until the disolvement, but even after that my security forces were hunting them down very effectivly. The game is a blast - you always have something to optimize and do, and the strategic hands-off approach to warfare and economy works very well. It's not Stellaris, but it is what Stellaris should have aimed for (with a quite higher budget). I dont need to micro my fleet movement as emperor - I do have a high staff for that. The interaction with the noble houses is awesome and very immersive. What could be better? More random events, more ropleplay stuff, more moral choices... but for an indie game with a single developer this is an astonishing archievement. 25€+10€ for this game is very well spent.
Stellar Monarch 2 is a very good 4X that succed at simmulating being a space emperor. Rulling is not about commanding fleet or managing industry but more sparing susceptibility of old noble fart and firing corrupted official. The scope of the game is too limited to spend hundred of hours but there are enough twist in it to be worth your time for a couple of games.
Another good entry in this series, and one of the better games of this type.
