Completing the game confirmed what I had thought ever since it was announced two years ago: the only reason this remake exists is to capitalize on nostalgia and the series' popularity, given MAGES' financial situation. I didn't expect significant plot changes and, all things considered, I'm glad there weren't any; I believe the story is perfect as it is, and I feared they might somehow ruin it. Since this series is really important to me personally, I decided to buy the game at full price to play it right at launch, and I really enjoyed revisiting the atmosphere of 2010 Akihabara and the Future Gadget Laboratory. I won't lie, the new visuals feel a bit odd, mainly due to them being brighter when compared to the original and I’m not personally a fan of Live2D; however, I got used to it as the game progressed. The art style has changed significantly, and many beautiful new CGs have been added so, while the original retains its charm and remains my preference, the new visuals look pretty nice too. The voice acting is pretty good but sometimes the audio quality drops for some reason so eh, i felt as some scenes conveyed less emotion or energy than the original, but given that the title came out nearly twenty years ago, it's understandable. The main tracks are the same as in the 2009 version, with the exception of the BGM, which was remastered by Takeshi ♥♥♥ himself. I have to admit I would have liked to hear a few new tracks from Kanako Ito or PHANTASM, though perhaps that might not have been possible. Regardless, I think this is better than relying on a random singer to just churn out new songs half-assedly. So, do I recommend this game to newcomers looking to get into the series? Not really: the price isn't worth it, and the original remains the best way to experience the story, given that some text was cut in this version (and no technovision ( ̄ヘ ̄;) ). Also, I wouldn't recommend buying the game at full price if you're just interested in Moeka's new route, since it lasts like 30min being a "bad" ending and all, just listen to the drama cd imo. I had fun playing the game, but I'd say you aren't missing out on anything special if you decide not to 乁 ˘ o ˘ ㄏ. tbh just wait for the sale It was nice seeing my wife again in the year of our lord 2026 desu

Finished all routes. For me, the original Steins;Gate is my absolute favorite piece of storytelling of all time and it will always be there, and of course, I had incredibly high expectations from this RE:BOOT. Let's start with the positive things - There's a significant change in terms of pacing. Things really moved faster and more concise than I remembered. Honestly, I just believe this change is one of the main reasons of this RE:BOOT. - Art style, although my first impression was quite bad, it grew on me, and this point I'd say it's gorgeous. But, on the opposite side, the issues about it. - While the pacing got much faster and concise, which isn't a bad thing itself, but it really lessened the emotional impact than I thought. I think I felt a much stronger emotional during certain moments in the original. - The Hololive-like animations are a refreshing sight to see, but to me, they aren't as impactful as I had hoped, and some angle looks straight ugly. I'd still prefer the unique static art of the original. - I don't know why but the BGM constantly swings between too loud and too quiet. It's tiresome to keep adjusting the volume, especially during crucial moments where pausing completely ruins the immersion. - The new route alone is not great or worth enough buying this version for If the OG is a 10/10, I'd give this a 7-8/10. If you're newcomer, I'd still strongly recommend starting with the original. though the pacing is a slower, it's still the perfect version of Steins;Gate and it's much much cheaper.

I expected what I got and got what I expected because we've known about this for months. You might not like the fresh coat of paint, but it's still on one of the best cars in the world. Technically, almost every aspect of this re-offering is additive and subtractive, by virtue of removing everything (from audiovisuals to script) to replace it with something else... Which sounds pretty rebuildy to me. I think even all the voice lines are re-recorded? I've recontextualised this release both as a product for their fiscal quarter to keep their non-AAA struggling subdivision company afloat; and as a concerted effort to unify their releases under the new engine which premiered with Anonymous;Code (so I'm expected Chaos;Head to get this treatment, too, alongside Robotic;Notes). This engine offers unique audiovisual aesthetic idiosyncrasies not offered by other visual novels - they stand out far more than Ren'Py games, you gotta admit that - which while some of us might not care, consumers by-and-large do. I'll play Ryukishi07 releases in the original art style, but the 07th Expansion upgrades sell substantially better than the original vision. Re:Boot aims to synthesise the anime and visual novel experience to hopefully rope in new players who were otherwise put off by the abrasive (but to me perfect) qualities seen in the original. I felt disappointment at the lack of a CG of Okabe looking up and down the street from the prologue. An iconic shot. But then I love the way Kurisu actually draws her demonstrations on the board during her time-travel lecture, as opposed to the overlay that appears atop her CG in the original. In ten years, I think we'll have a bunch of these new-engine facelifts and we'll be seeing this discussion over-and-over: "Should I play the New;Gen Sci;Adv or the originals?" The anime abridged the visual novel far more than this has so far and is still rightfully beloved. I think its ability to tell the story in 8 hours is admirable, miraculous, even. I think these middle-ground-density versions (Re:Boot and ELITE) have a right to exist (and are fare more preferable to me than the 3 volume manga) though their non-commitment to total abridgement or complete adaptative work do leave them feeling like the middle child with less to offer in terms of quantity, quality, or brevity.
As a first time player of the series, I thought this would be a good way to finally catch up on the game. But Kurisu's audio is enough to make me stop and consider returning it. I strongly suggest you check a few of her lines online to hear her delivery and mix and see if it would bother you.
Double the price of the original version of the game, so I can understand the criticism RE:BOOT may receive from people that wish the relive their experience from a past version. Perhaps the price is slightly steep for a remastered game. I have also heard that there's a difference in pacing. As a new player who is just starting to play the series, I have been enjoying the playthrough so far. Subjectively speaking, I am fond of the art style that is portrayed in this version of the game. The dynamic of the story is to my liking. Have had no issues in terms of gameplay, and the game's got me hooked.
