About
Stars in Shadow is a turn-based 4X science fiction strategy game. Explore the stars, settle distant worlds, and build an interstellar empire. Recover ancient technologies and negotiate with alien leaders. Created by a pair of passionate strategy gamers, Stars in Shadow features streamlined empire management, sophisticated turn-based tactical combat, and detailed world building.
Epic Scope:
Starting at the dawn of interstellar travel, progress through four eras of technological advancement. Discover the science of planetary terraforming, upgrade your infantry battalions to battle mechs, and grow your fleet from a squadron of destroyers to an armada of planet-destroying Dread Stars.
Varied Factions:
7 Playable factions comprising six alien races. Each faction has different research strengths and technology options. Forming alliances, conquering neighboring species, or discovering ancient artifacts may open up additional avenues of research. Choose your race wisely as it impacts which worlds will suit you, what trades or alliances may be offered, and whether or not your neighbors are inclined to trust you.
Stylized Setting:
A distinctive comic-book art style and an original, detailed universe backstory draw you into an immersive game world. Interact with a unique cast of alien characters, make friends and influence people, or crush your enemies and see them driven before you.
Focused High-Level Strategy:
Build a vast and varied empire, taking advantage of the unique traits offered by different alien populations and the worlds they inhabit. Experiments on a slave population might diminish your popularity in the Galactic Council. A streamlined resource and planetary improvement model keeps the game moving even when your empire grows large.
Deep Turn-Based Tactical Combat:
Face off against your opponents in complex 2D turn-based tactical battles. Counter your enemy’s missile barrage using point defense or interceptors, then close to energy weapon range! Stars in Shadow’s tactical engine includes several features rarely seen in turn based games. Multi-ship commands keep even large fleet battles fast-paced, and smart unit behaviors allow tight control with minimal micromanagement. Auto-resolve battles that are a foregone conclusion, while retaining the ability to replay any engagement to see exactly what happened.

Old school 4x in space. Reminds me a lot of Master of Orion 2
This is a fun little game, that reminds me a lot of MOO2. It's quite fun and worth sinking a few hours into. It's a relatively simple game to pick up with few systems to learn. This is a great little game if you want to scratch that 4X itch.
Just saw it got an update. Need to come back to this one in 26.
too buggy.
its been 3 days, 750,000 colinists have starved to death. 2 scout ships have been burned at neighboring stars. Dinosaurs are now extinct... again.. Could use a good starting tutorial, too much going on within the screen, ill come back in another century to see if i can figure it out.
Nice streamlined 4X game with reasonable replayability - the limitation being the optimum ways of setting up planets and going through the tech tree is fairly static, so once you have the hang of it, most of each game becomes very similar, with only moderate variation for a couple of the more unique races you can play. Building your empire, sending out scouts and colonists, are all fairly straightforward and standard for the genre, with the exception that most planets have different biomes which encourage you capture (or allow to immigrate in at least once case) alien races into your empire in order to get the most out of each planet, for example grabbing some aquatic Phidi colonists for your ocean/island planets, etc. The tech tree while wide is effectively somewhat linear because of how much the tech costs ramp up, which means you generally fill out most of the lower levels of each scientific area (at least all the useful stuff for your race/play style), and only beeline a handful of expensive technologies (such as the ones that increase your ships speed/range, double the effectiveness of each building type). Conversely this only happens because a large fraction of the technologies have clear benefits (or at least give extra options you might need to switch to, such as a different weapon type if you find yourself up against an enemy that has a counter for your current loadout). So finally the main area that really makes or breaks such games is the ship design and tactical combat - the design part is straightforward if somewhat limited, each ship design has modular component slots (usually with a multiplier so you are fitting two lasers or two coilguns in a particular slot for example) and you can make ships have more armour/shields, a bigger crew to try to capture enemy ships, and choose between direct fire weapons with various special effects vs missiles/fighters vs point defence weapons. Tactical combat on the other hand is okay, but the general streamlining of the game means you don't have a setup phase, which can cause issues (such as gaps in your point defence coverage when you start, or large ships stuck behind the lines and difficult to move up with lots of shuffling smaller ones out of the way), and controlling the ships is a little finicky at times, such as you can left click on the enemy ships when targeted to see its loadout, but it isn't always easy to get them to "stick" in the target window so you can click on them, but apart from that it is pretty good and while you can get some advantage playing fights manually, automating doesn't give vastly different results in most cases (the exception being where you can stand off and missile the enemy defences/planet down, the AI would charge in and take unnecessary damage), so you don't have to fight every battle once everyone's production gets high and there are fleets everywhere. Overall a decent entry into the genre, which is probably worth your time as it has a decent amount of new ideas, is fairly quick to pick up, but probably doesn't have the depth you are likely to get much out of playing hundreds of games as they will get fairly samey once you have played all the races and got the hang of all the systems in the game.
...
A low learning curve for some races and a made sense battle. some races have higher learning curve, and those are quite challenging. The ruthless method was an easy way out.(Killing the entire planet) Very re-playable. I am learning how to play with other races. (using a more humane method of ruling them)
so far it plays nice and easy! I would definitly play this in multiplayer! Where games like stellaris feel like a buggy mess where everything is a chore this game feels nice and easy to understand and play. In about 30 minutes i understand everything i need to. I am gone post this comment now in the hope that i dont forget to play more.
