During my time with it: The first part of the tutorial (where you're supposed to fly into four boxes) kept warping me back to start if I ever, once, let off the accelerator. What the heck. The first mission where you get out of your ship has your camera shaking violently as you're trying to swim through the tiny hole. Also, finding the hole? Rough for me. Did you know you're supposed to press the F key to use stuff? Or to land in your base? Because the tutorial never actually says that. I spent five minutes trying to be clever and actually land on the platform. Oh, and playing keyboard + mouse is fluid, but there's a bunch of buttons labeled RB and LB. There's a lot that's neat here, but the jank is real, and the flavor of the game as of right now isn't overcoming said jank. For $15 (11% off as of the time of this writing at $13.34), I will give it a teensy bit more time to see how the upcoming patches fix some of this, but I couldn't recommend it to people at this time.
Here's the thing: There is a nugget of a good game here. The concept is interesting, the world that is built is neat, the ship movement feels pretty solid, and the _idea_ of it having base-building/survival aspects to what is basically an exploration combat game is good! The visuals are pretty solid, and there's decent sound design. Sadly there are just way too many issue with this game right now, especially for something that isn't in EA. I played this game for about 2 hours last night, and here's a list of the issues I ran into: - Got stuck in geometry at least a dozen times - at one point I had to "hack" a thing and the percentage bars did not math correctly - swimming outside of your ship (neat idea!) is horribly disorienting, and your mouse sensitivity is purposefully reduced, and it feels awful - the boss fights (again, neat!) feel very disconnected from the rest of the game - the vocaloid they used is pretty solid, but has no idea how to read a situation and emote correctly - at one point in the game I couldn't hit ESC to get to the game menu, had to alt-f4 - at one point I had to scan 3 parts of a train. I scanned 2 of them too quickly which caused me to be unable to scan any again, but didn't add to the overall count meaning I was stuck and had to alt-f4 - at one point I got my ship so stuck in a cave that I had to alt-f4 and do it all over again - at one point I was diving and ended up with -1 health and full oxygen, so I was dead but not. I could not control my character or get to the game menu. I had to alt-f4 - once you start a mini-mission you are stuck doing it. there's no way to back out, which is a problem since some of the missions are _frustrating as hell_ (I'm looking at you: tracking the drone, damage but don't destroy it) - visual markers for where to go are needed, because often times the game would say "okay go look at X" but I have _no idea_ where X is - I for sure sequence broke a mission regarding the generators - the base building/survival isn't explained at all, and so I never figured out how to upgrade my ships abilities or get a new ship, which means I fought 2 bosses with the stock ship (stressful) - inventory management in this game is an absolute nightmare. As far as I can tell, you can only move one item at a time, and it takes way too many clicks to do so - if the game detects a gamepad, all controls will be labelled for the gamepad, even if you're not using it - typos in the English text (please, indie devs everywhere: hire a copywriter. It's worth the money.) ...and there is surely more that I'm forgetting. Now I'm not saying all this to just dunk on the team that made the game. It's a small team, and I'm sure they tried their best. I really do think that there's a real game in here, but this was not ready to be released. Stardiver needed more time in the oven. It needed beta-testing, it needed QA controls, it needed it's mechanics and flows assessed... It simply wasn't ready for prime-time. Oh and as a little spot of trivia: This game and Planet Crafter are 100% using the same asset pack(s). I recognised a bunch of things from Planet Crafter in this game. That's not a knock or an insult or anything, just a fun side-note.
If this was an early access title then maybe I could recommend it. Unfortunately it is far to buggy and too rough around the edges to be called V1.0 'complete' Going to keep an eye on it for patches, but for now its been refunded.
Quite low-paced gameplay, and sometimes I am a bit lost because I am not sure what to do next. Can be a bit frustrating when I drive everywhere and nothing shows up. Apart from that I like the scenario! Also the music is quite nice and atmospheric. Some reviews say that the "narrator" voice is boring, but I like it quite a lot. What I would like to see is that I can move the map around and set waypoints. Also the starting ship is quite slow, could use a faster move even without upgrades (which come relatively late). Summary: When you stop comparing it to Subnautica, you will have a good time.

I cover a wide range of genres both paid and unpaid, providing unbiased opinions as well as regular giveaway events.

No
This has very confusing controls with the absence of audio alongside the lack of dialogue. There is just no sense of direction. This feels like it isn't even finished yet, not even good enough to be categorized as an Early Access title, but rather like a tech demo due to the texturing, bugs, and so on.
Not having played a shooter game for a number of years I was excited to try this. First off I found control of the ship difficult but like anything else a bit a practice and you improve. So far, so good. It is early access but I must say that I am enjoying it so far. There is enough excitement to keep me interested and learning how to play. I am very happy with it, I have not had another good game since Planet Crafter and this one is up there for me. It is cheap on Steam just now as it is early access and well worth what I paid for it. Go get it, it's fun!
I think this game has potential to be a real gem but at the moment it's just so darn rough with mission objectives not triggering, the controls often catapulting you all over the place, the UI being impossible to deal with, and some mission objects (i.e. scanning a train) not working correctly. When you're using the "boost" ability, the game feels great and I genuinely enjoy myself zooming across the map, bobbing and weaving while dodging bullets, shooting down enemies, and all of that... but the game feels so slow without the boost and the boost's recharge rate is also not fast enough. Honestly, the game would be better if it just didn't have that boost mechanic in the first place. Make the game fast and let players have fun. Don't limit their opportunities to enjoy the game for no reason whatsoever. If they make the movement faster and fix all the rough patches of the game, it's probably a "recommend" from me but at the moment, it just feels like a very early EA game, despite being fully released. Will keep an eye on this one and hope there's a patch or a few.
Slow and cumbersome gameplay, the only advantage of which would be the underwater world, but it was not exploited either.
