About
CODEX vs SCIENCE (Not Talos Principles) is a first-person, narrative-driven adventure and philosophical exploration game designed to address the deep-rooted cultural drivers behind severe human conflicts: the friction between dogmatic religious extremism and anti-dogmatic scientific skepticism. Set against the backdrop of current geopolitical crises, such as the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, the game serves as a cultural intervention. By weaving a narrative that uncovers shared ethical boundaries and universal truths between Faith and Science, the project actively seeks to dismantle the ideological fanaticism that fuels division and war.
Beyond its sociopolitical goals, the game functions as a dedicated platform for Cognitive Physiotherapy. Through careful level design, environmental exploration, and interactive journaling based on authentic historical annotations, the gameplay acts as a non-invasive tool for stress reduction and psychological rehabilitation. This design specifically aims to provide accessible mental health support and trauma relief for vulnerable individuals affected by the psychological toll of global conflicts.

The game has no AI disclosure, despite being choke full of AI, and no it is not just the steampage. The game has AI generated texts, AI voiceover, allegedly AI assets and perhaps even AI level design. AI may or may not have been used as help in programming, regardless the game is riddled with annoying and minor bugs. So the developer conveniently forgot to mark the AI disclosure. They also conveniently left copyrighted music in the game, to which I am fairly certain they did not obtain a licence for (famous enough pop music that I, someone who does not listen to pop, recognized; perhaps AI was used to plagiarize the songs? Food for thoughts.). What about the actual game and its gameplay? It is underwhelming. You walk, find a text, find a key, open a door, repeat. The texts don't make any sense, they are just word salads and they even contraddict each other multiple times. They are also narrated by AI voice, riddled with grammatical and punctuation errors, and while the steam page says "they present the plans for something bigger" they don't, really. The keys are easy to find. Navigation and explorstion pose 0 challenges and 0 interesting things going on since you will always look for only key and letters (or laptops). The game "boasts" accessibility by having a blue light help people with "color vision deficency/impairment" be able to play. The truth is that this is just glorified yellow paint, instead turned into a neon blue light. Nothing related to accessibility, and ironically despite the dev saying"it is not about making the game easier" it make it easier and thats it. I am an advocate for accessibility settings, this one is not it and it is not even something you can turn on or off. It is like saying "i have a main menu that allow you to launch the game, this is to enable even people who are deaf to play the game". I hope you can understand how ridicolous that sounds. Pun intended. Everything you do is unrelated to the texts. There is also virtually no difficulty, unless you count the game requiring you in some instances to have 3 keys to open one door but not telling you how many you have and how many you need, so you are just left to wander aimlessly. The environments are a mix of the most generic store assets and alledgedly potentially ai assets you could ever find. This game is peak example of amateur work, but while "i don't like it because its bad", the reason I hate it is for the excessive use of AI, and in particular the idea that "you can use AI to game a game that make you smart" while having zero clue what you are even doing. Want to make me even more angry? Have AI write things on your game page like "this game is therapeutical; its for mental health; the first of its kind; it helps against the bad things going on in the world like the war between ukraine and russia; scientific community;" No. You can't just type nonsense into an LLM and suddenly your game is good for "mental health", especially when LLM has been proven to be negative for it and pushed for people to commit suicide instead of redirecting them to proper, real, certificated and staffed with experts who spent time training and learning, institutions and organizations. Your game is not magically a panacea curing all evils and mental problems because you said so- especially when the gameplay is so awful and the texts are just nonsense. This is bad, you should feel bad but it is important that you understand WHY it is bad. That is the only way this game can actually make you smarter, ot by asking an LLM to make you a smart text about humans being made of stardust, but about learning something yourself, and from your mistakes. I might make my own mistakes and might not be smart and might not be right all the time, but I try to do better. I will edit and maybe add stuff later because my oh my, theres so much negative things to say about this game.
