Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

A very solid remake of SO2, the best SO game. Disregard my playtime here as I put over 100 hours in on the Switch port and before that the PSP release (I have physical copies for all SO games including a figure of Nel and Sophia from 3. I even have a full DVD box set of the anime). I'm just glad this series is getting recognition it deserves and hopefully leads to better games compared to the more recent entries, especially 5 as that game was pure trash. 4 had a fun combat system with a bad protagonist and 6 was alright with a fun combat system, 5 felt like shovelware in every regard. As for SOSSR it has a very in depth skill system where you can outright break the game. You also have the decision between your protagonist and party, which gives this game a lot of fluidity in how you can build your team. The only other SO game that comes close to that is the first game. My go to team is Rena, Claude, Celine, Precis, Opera, Welch and Chisato.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 1: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.78/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Disclaimer: I have not played this game before, so I am missing the nostalgia factor. And I have also only played Rena's side of the story. The game originally came out in the 90s, so I am comparing it so games like Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Grandia, Suikoden and for the love of anything I just cant see why this one spawned sequels. The Good: - Voice acting - Combat (somewhat) Neutral: - Big cast of initially interesting characters - Lots of endings - Lots of things to do Bad: - THE DIALOGUE/STORY: My god. This must be the worst writing I have seen in a long time. So much emptiness, so many phrases, so much repeating. In a game that has almost no story and progression. The important bits are being fed in exposition by characters you never met before. The entire screentime of the main antagonist is maybe 5 minutes? - End game: The enemies at the end are spongy, but not difficult. Levels are build so you actually have to fight every random enemy. The gametime would be several hours shorter if it wasnt for that - Gametime: It's really short. - Characters: They remain all as you met them. There is no growth, no depth, they dont even react really to key moments that have to do with their own background. It's all very stale. - THE MUSIC: I turned it off. It's really annoying and bad. I can't advise anyone to play this, sorry. It's really one of the worst RPGs I ever played and Im an idiot for finishing it.
I had always wanted to play this as a kid and never got the chance. Not worth the price of $50. Fun little 30 hour romp. Great to grab if on sale. Everything is very linear. The entire game is essentially a series of A-to-B corridors connecting battles that can all be won by spamming the attack button. The story is expressed through meager text before and after the battles, so the story's pacing is blistering and unsatisfying. Any character that is introduced is almost certainly removed after serving their purpose at the next plot point. The story treats everyone outside the core party like highways signs, rapidly passing into the rear view after you've read them. This is explicitly the case in the game's feigned and true endings. Unfortunately, everyone in the car is pretty quiet, too. None of the party members develops, individually, or in relation to each other. This is underlined by the annoying tendency for characters to say the name of the person they're addressing with a particular inflection to express emotion, rather than, you know... words that describe what they feel or why they feel that way, Engaging in the 'personal action' character development events requires you to fast travel back to every place you've already been when you pick up a new character. Most of these events can be skipped because you cannot affect how they play out. The game boasts of 99 endings. This implies great flexibility in the storyline, which is entirely fixed. In fact, the 99 endings are ostensibly just permutations of a few single-scene cuts tagged to the ending. The game was fun, overall, I just enjoy critiquing game design.
Straightforward RPG. Completed story, all raid boss, collected every fish, and acquired all Ultimate Weapons. There is more to do like New Game+ and collect all 99 endings but I like to complete a game once. Please bring more Star Ocean games to PC.
8/10 from me. Only downsides for me were: - The latter half of the game the story goes odd and feels forced by the writers. - The combat mechanics means some fights can be more a game of cat and mouse than a fight. - The design philosophy in the final dungeon changes in that the mobs feel like bloat and are there just to disrespect your time Other than these three points, the game is definately a fun 25-30hr experience: - Characters are lovable and bounce off each other well - Combat at its core is generally fun for the majority of the game - Fishing is fun - They done a great job with visuals and audio
There's a certain charm that Star Ocean 2 exudes when you first play it. It feels grandiose and large-than-life. The combat was my favorite part of the gameplay, it was just so engrossing and it kept being dynamic all throughout the game. The story is a charming romp through sci-fi and it is a fun ride all the way through. They definitely were cooking in the '90s man.
