Can't say much. I ran around with little idea what I was doing, smashing pots when it worked and dying. After a little while I found the inventory but still wasn't really sure. But in the end, I wasn't really enjoying myself or invested in the game, so I'll collect the cards and move on

Since I first posted this I learned that the assets were not stolen from Realm of the Mad God, rather they just are both using the same tileset that can be purchased. That being said, it's basically a survival version of that Realm of the Mad God. Which at first may sound fun, but they managed to make it seem fairly unfinished and rather boring. 1/10
very basic and lacking in every aspect even for the 4 eur price point it had for most of its existence, barely anything to see and do. can't remember if the death penalty was mentioned on the store page when I bought it, but taking away xp and potentially entire levels already gained after death is a ♥♥♥♥ move regardless. it's not stolen assets though, like some idiots claim, it just uses the same texture pack other, sometimes more popular games do.
AMAZING game !!! only problem is the lack of updates! tremendous potential !!! i see lots of good games like this with potential fail due to lack of updates... however if you can you really should try this game out!!! it is amazing for what it is even if there is a lack of updates OVERALL 4.7/5.0
Taking basically all of their assests from Realm of the Mad God, it's basically a survival version of that game. Which at first may sound fun, but they managed to make it seem fairly unfinished and rather boring.
Squarelands is a strange hybrid twin stick survival shooter/fantasy minecraft/top down retro pixel RPG. Choose a character class and explore a samey procgen world. Build some defenses and go up levels as you kill waves of samey monsters all in terrible 2D retro pixel graphics hell. There might be some cases where the premise of this game could be acceptable, but the implementation falls flat, and quickly. It's apparent the developers dumped the game on Steam quickly without properly finishing it. Gameplay seems incomplete and unintuitive. Fullscreen mode doesn't work on a UHD monitor, and resolution can't be adjusted to correct this. Developers must learn that Minecraft succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. A lot of indie developers see Minecraft's success and assume it's because it looks bad, not because it had unique and appealing game mechanics, and they try to emulate the success without understanding it. That's why reviewers are faced with so many of these terrible games with confrontingly bad graphics. I'm not sure what the developers were really trying to achieve, but whatever it was, they didn't, so I can't recommend this.
