44 hours. One of those hours was spent making my creature look like something that should not exist. The other 43 were spent watching it conquer the galaxy. No regrets. Spore: Galactic Adventures is an expansion to Spore that adds mission based content to the space stage, letting you beam your creature down to planets and actually play as them rather than just clicking on things from orbit. It also comes with an adventure creator that lets the community build and share their own missions, which in theory is a great idea and in practice is a collection of varying quality ranging from genuinely clever to deeply unhinged. The base Spore space stage is where most people's enthusiasm for the game traditionally goes to die. It is repetitive, overwhelming, and pulls you in seventeen directions at once with an economy that feels designed by someone who wanted you to be mildly stressed at all times. Galactic Adventures does not fix those problems but it does give you a reason to beam down to planets regularly, which breaks up the monotony better than the base game manages on its own. The mission content is fun in short bursts. The adventure creator is surprisingly deep and was clearly a passion project for the team. The community missions at their best add genuine variety to a game that desperately needed it. The problem is that Spore itself is a game of extraordinary promise and uneven delivery, and this expansion inherits all of that. Every stage hints at a deeper game that never fully materialises. Galactic Adventures is more content for a game that needed more depth, which is not quite the same thing. Still. 44 hours. The creature was worth it. 6/10. Make something horrible and set it loose on the universe.
