TO EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT TOO HIGH FRAMERATES AND A TOO FAST GAME: Nvidia settings have an option to limit the max fps for programs. I set this to 60 fps max for SDD and it works just like when I was a kid. Simply love it!
I never had any issues in regards to speed or FPS. If you enjoyed the SNES version, you'll enjoy this. It's the same game. I also want to mention that if you go the Menu option, you can change it from Super Double Dragon to the Japanese version, Return of Double Dragon for the control changes and longer final mission.
I cannot recommend this title. I bought it, finished it in less then an hour and refunded it. It is, in truth: a port of the SNES game, although it contains both the Japanese and North American versions and there is fundamentally, no difference between either--aside from the Japanese version having a few extra bells and whistles. There are NO trophies in this version, there is NO online play and the only "feature" I could see; was speeding up the game play. There is couch co-op however and you could play this through the internet, via something like parsec. Even at $10, for what it is: they are asking a bit too much. Maybe $2.99 or $4.99. If you'll remember the SNES version, it was very clunky and choppy and that's here too. I like what Arc System works has done with the double dragon franchise (Mostly) but for every Double Dragon Gaiden or Double Dragon IV--they $hit the bed, with something like the double dragon trilogy or Super Double Dragon. The game does have an overlay and a title screen that's new--but that's about it, This seems like it was just obviously emulated and put through, what I like to call: the sloppy club sandwich. Companies take the nostalgia humping and the cash grabbing exploitation and in between that: slap on a poor emulation, seasoned with a couple of toppings here and there. Again, I like for the most part what arc system works has done--but c'mon. If they ever update it or change it, maybe I'll get it again--but I have to say: it's a no. Supposedly, the original Return of Double Dragon (which is what it is called, without Nintendo, slapping the "Super" gimmick on top of everything they could at the time)--there was a lot of cut content from the original game; that never made it into the final versions. So why isn't any of it here; even in the form of storyboards, concept art ect? You just kind of play the game straight through and do wonder what the hell is the point of it? It's not as bad as the double dragon trilogy (I mean; I'd rather play this 10 times over then Double Dragon 3 arcade) But I would save your money.
I was a kid when i played this on my Snes, afternoons spent playing couch co op with my brother...I miss those times, things were simple back then. Best beat 'em up ever made. Have fun
Unplayable on monitors with a high refresh rates. They need to cape the frames at 30 frames per second. To be playable on all monitor. I should be an easy patch. That's if they get off their buts and do it. It plays fine on other monitors though. I recommend a 60 frames or less monitor and a low powered PC. It is no reason for this game to hit 165 fps Just cape it at 30 fps
The nostalgia this brings back. Been waiting for a port of this forever. So the good is its pretty much the exact same as the snes version plus some added things like you can increase the play speeds and play the JP version. The bad I guess is that as stated in other reviews if you have a 120-144 monitor it runs at mach speed lol. Also stated in other reviews you can fix this by going into your nvidia control panel and find the game and cap the frame rate to 60. It will run fine after that. No mach speed.
Classic Nostalgia Beat Em Up great martial arts moves back in the day.
