The gameplay reminded me one game from my childhood. Everything would be fine, but I noticed that I can't get most of the achievements(even for passing the game). Reading on the forums https://steamcommunity.com/app/284930/discussions/0/522728730295933441, I discover that the achievements are broken from the beginning. I do not recommend this game, BROKEN ACHIEVEMENTS!
'Speed Kills' is a high-octane combat racer that draws clear inspiration from classic isometric titles like Rock n' Roll Racing, offering a gritty, post-apocalyptic take on the genre. The game’s primary appeal lies in its satisfying progression system, where players earn credits to purchase and heavily upgrade a variety of reinforced vehicles. The combat is chaotic and impactful, utilizing a diverse array of weapons and abilities that turn every race into a frantic battle for survival. With its crunchy industrial soundtrack and detailed vehicle models, the game successfully captures a nostalgic, "old-school" arcade energy that is particularly enjoyable in short, intense bursts. However, the experience is occasionally held back by a rigid physics engine and a repetitive mission structure. The isometric perspective, while stylistic, can sometimes make it difficult to judge jump distances or navigate tighter track segments, leading to frustrating collisions with the environment. Additionally, the AI opponents often rely on "rubber-banding" mechanics to stay competitive, which can make a well-executed lead feel unearned or easily lost due to a single scripted surge from the pack. Ultimately, 'Speed Kills' is a solid and entertaining throwback for fans of vehicular combat, though its mechanical rough edges and lack of gameplay variety prevent it from fully modernizing the formula it seeks to emulate.
Oh how I yearn for a fun isometric racer. There are some out there but so many just aren't good, like this one. My two major issues with this is that the screen is so zoomed in, it's hard to adjust for things. Making turns around corners are easy enough because there are signs on the ground but avoiding hazards or picking up power ups are just total RNG because they appear too quickly. It's not fun feeling like you're forced to hit whatever happens to come up because the camera is zoomed in too much and you just can't see what's ahead of you. Sure, you can brake and practically come to a stop to make the appropriate turns to avoid a hazard or pick up a power up but that puts you at more of a disadvantage than just hitting whatever appears. There are dips and jumps throughout the tracks. The jumps are obvious but the dips are not due to the isometric view and how quickly everything comes up. You hit a dip at just a slightly wrong angle? Enjoy spinning out like you hit a banana peel in Mario Kart and going face first into a wall... The game just feels unfair. Driving is fine for what it is but the two gripes I mentioned above left me frustrated rather than challenged.
Got this game back in 2014. Stopped playing cuz the achievements didn't unlock at back then. Finished today, 8 years later and this ♥♥♥♥'s still broken. Boring RnR Racing lookalike with poor efforts to be good
I can't recommend this game but it's not game breaking is just too many factors to lost but I personally think it's a skill issue on my end! Man but trying to get powerup and the ramps up and down screw me over than the AI bots most of the time! The ramps flip me over but the bots perfectly land it everytime only time I see the AI crash is when they slightly bump into each other. This requires you to win every single match to move to next tournament is unfair as heck but a good challenge if you love this stick driver type of games!
