SpaceWorms is a turn-based strategy game which puts you in the role of "Ze Wormperor", overlord over a galactic civilization. Develop your planets and steal, bomb, infect, colonize, brainwash, and conquer your way to total domination in this wiggly, crazy, and politically incorrect multi-gravity artillery game.

This is an Early Access title and there are apparently not many players yet. So don't be as naive as I was and hope to play a multiplayer game just now. That's not going to happen unless you call a few buddies beforehand and force them to buy the game. Luckily, I had a few friends over when we tried it out. Damn, I had nearly forgotten about this type of game! How awesome it was when you were sitting together in front of one screen, sharing the controls, talking trash to each other, while playing the same game. How damn angry do you get when your friend blasts away your perfect planet just before it's your turn. It felt like the times we played Summer Games or Decathlon on the C64 or one of the early Worms titles (of course). But from the top: Each player is in control of a single planet in a flat universe. You play in turns and each turn you can send a single rocket. The rockets do not only destroy planets (via reducing their health to zero) but also steal upgrades, colonize or conquer other planets. The further your planet advances without being bombed to pieces, the more technology in terms of rockets you get. And the more time you have to collect upgrades. Some of the upgrades are as crazy as those from the Worms games - remember the concrete donkey or the holy grenade? Of course, you can also increase the damage of your rockets, but it's way more fun to infect your friend with space aids or use mind control to send his worms into the sun. Yes, the game is terribly inappropriate at times (actually always), for example, when they make fun about "your mom being so fat she pulls rockets from the sun". But it's also incredibly fun. And difficult. Compared to the worms titles, where you only had one gravity direction and changing wind, here, your rocket gets pulled from various planets and suns simultaneously (or your mom:). You really have to practice your skills to get a long shot right and sometimes the rocket simply comes back and hits your planet. It can be infuriating when it happens to you but is pure gold when it happens to your friends. While playing against the computer or online matches can be fun (you need to play a bit of single player to unlock some upgrades) for some players, the real gem here is the shared screen gameplay. I say: Grab a few beers, invite your friends (or let them bring the beer), and go from zero to total brain slug for an evening.
Full disclosure: I know the developers personally, but I still try not to be (too) biased. When I got to play one of the earlier versions of the game, I was not only in name reminded of the cult classic by Team 17. SpaceWorms is a fun little time-killer that doesn't need much exposition in terms of story or even gameplay. The basics are easily explained and through a bit of playing around you kinda get the hang of it. So, the old premise pretty much still stands: Shoot from one point on the map to another point and try to vanquish your enemies. Only that this time, your rockets aren't influenced by wind, but rather by gravity (sorry, gravitilation). This universal force also makes the entire map move between turns to add further chaos to the already existing one. From what I see, it all works well so far with nothing breaking in between. I haven't played many online matches (yet), but those I did play worked (with a few hiccups at the start, but that was even before this release). Still, there is obviously potential for making this even better, for example the music tracks are not balanced equally (at least one of them suddenly is really loud, you can't hear the commentator over that) or the mission texts for the challenges could at times be a bit more precise with what to do (I'm looking at you, Gravitilation Cloak challenge). Overall, a nice little gem to play with friends (provided you have some) and I am pretty curious to see what the developers will come up with in ze future for this.
fun casual little game. hopefully can be fleshed out over time, seems a decent bit of fun. looking forward to see where ti goes.,

See 100s of more local 4-player reviews at my curator page! [/th]
SpaceWorms is worth buying for the silly sound-effects alone. The game itself looks simple but the orbital mechanics are tricky enough to be challenging and thanks to the great customizability you'll be entertained for hours. Especially if played with a few friends. The price is a bit steep for what you get, and the game is still in Early Access. But if you liked Worms back in the day, give this a try. Conclusion: This game is the most fun you'll ever have with worms.
Couldn't understand ♥♥♥♥ when I played. 5/7.
Full disclosure: I know the developers personally, but I still try not to be (too) biased. I played an earlier version of SpaceWorms and it already showed a lot of potential. It starts as a small and entertaining time-killer but soon you will be drawn into the addictive game mechanics. It becomes more and more challenging while never being frustrating. The additional features - beyond the gravity-rocket-juggling - will make sure that you keep coming back! And the humor! You love it or you hate it! I - at least - love it!!!
SpaceWorms has less substance than the price (currently 60 cents) or screenshots might lead you to believe. If you're thinking "eh, this might be fun for an hour", you'd unfortunately be wrong. Someone with game dev experience could whip this up in a couple of hours. Someone with no dev experience could follow a youtube guide and finish this over a weekend. You'd have more fun buying gems from steam, and unpacking and repacking them in to sacks. Not recommendeddddd.
Have you ever revelled in the glory of ruling a mighty empire with your worm, but then startled awake in the middle of the night, realizing your fantasy of absolute universal domination were naught but a fleeting dream? Fret no more - with SPACEWORMS, your eternal dream of using your own personal worm - or rather, a whole planet of them - to swipe other worm-carriers across the cheek can come true. Backstory aside (and this game doesn't need one), it's a simple and straightforward, but spiced up with power-ups version of the old MS-DOS game "GORILLAS". Only that you don't throw bananas, but infernal interplanetary rockets of DooM(TM), collecting and stealing Powerups from each other, fight the other worm populations as well as the everlasting pull of gravity, and of course, you try not to get Space-AIDS. But if you have it for some reason, don't be selfish and share it with the others :) In my opinion, SpaceWorms is a great example of how to wrap simple game mechanics, spice it up with some extras and suddenly receive an entertaining package with suprising tactical depth, requiring a good measure of skill and luck from each player. And while the KI is okay to play against, it's of course much more fun to play it together (or rather, against) other humans. This is one of the few games that acually support multiple players on one computer. In this spirit: I don't know what to do with my schniepel any more.
absolut nice das game :D
