I've mixed feelings about this game even if I'm releasing a positive rating. Space Rift do his best to create a story around your missions, not a bad one even if cartoonish characters mixed with realistic environments are not very convincing (audio is instead very good). Someone complains Elite for leave the player without instructions, here is just the opposite, there is a plot and you can/have to do exactly what the main story ask you. Graphics (excepting the style of characters) is good, super sharp edges and well readable HUDs, nice use of your head as pointer and a great sense of scale for asteroids and ships. Fighting is instead not very good, it's cleary something added to pause the main story time to time, is annoying more than interesting. Mining is instead well done but usually not required to progress. As everyone is saying, Space Rift is very short and need to be continued in further chapters. It's a known fact, but it's also something to consider before a buy (especially at full price). Another thing to consider is than there is lot of inertia and rotations here, this game push harder on the comfort than Elite and many other cockpit games (and this without being simulative, it's pretty arcadey). If you're not averagely robust in your stomach, this could be the wrong game to play.
6/10 Scrapes a recommendation because: 1) THis is really buggy; I'm not kidding. Expect continual crashes and restarts. 2) The graphics are really basic. I enjoyed this game because of the refreshing narrative experience of playing a space game. Space games these days are either open world or detached missions without a story. THis game reminds me of freespace, and I have often thought "why can't someone make a good narrative driven space ship game." THis isn't all that good, but it fits into a genre that is lacking competitors, so I recommend it.
It's a good game but the game keeps crashing at the red planet when i'm fighting, every time I reload get to this point it crashes? I can hear it running but it is stuck and headset shows me steam list? is this just me? is it my pc? anyway wow imagine flying round in a star wars fighter! I recommend only if it's my pc bugging you will have to check other reviews.
I have to say having been into vr since the start with the occulus dev kit now owning a psvr and the the the new rift consumer version .This is the best game I have enjoyed playing in vr ! Graphics are good Gameplay is good Story is great ! everything you could wish for in a good VR game . Like everyone else I have to say £14.99 for the amount of content is a bit steep to say the least ! If the devs get some more content out FAST and dont be greedy with the pricing they could be on a winner here :)
This game starts well but does not continue well. It starts with an intriguing story, and it proceeds promisingly. However, it is fun just for the first hour, I didn't enjoy much the rest (of the story and the dialogs and the further missions..). The game seems unfinished or to have been finished less than planned, considering the good beginning story and upgrade features that you don't need to use much. The good side is you do not need to invest much time learning the controls for maneuvering the ship. There is no six-axis control; there is pitch, yaw, roll along with controlling the forward and backward speed. Frankly, I found this control scheme simple and fun compared to other spaceship games. The holographic panels around the seat are cool, too. However, you don't use your real hands to use them, instead, by pointing your gaze and pressing an appropriate button on your gamepad. It would be cool if touch controllers were supported, but as such it is nice as well. Combat is a bit problem. The enemy ships are turning around you, and like, trying to stay behind you during attacks. So, to chase them, you need to do lots of continuous turning as well as targeting with your gaze. That can make you dizzy if it takes long. The visuals are good, and I didn't experience any glitch or other sort of vr related flaws. I think there are better games, like Everspace, similar to this one. Yet, I am happy to have it in my library, too.
