Really enjoyed the story and the visuals were incredible. Gameplay was really fun but can be a little repetitive. You can tell it was made with a lot of love! 7/10
South of Midnight: a beautiful game with terrific heart from start to finish. We don't get too many games about the Deep South from any perspective, let alone a Black one, so it's most welcome. I say this as a 52 year old white man who's lived most of his life here in the South. Racism has no place in our world. The game is a mix of 3rd person platforming, combat and collectibles, where you guide Hazel to solve various paranormal mysteries in her community Prospero. The formula is nothing new, but the execution is top notch and the world building is cohesive and complete. Hazel is an excellent protagonist, and her journey has a satisfying conclusion that isn't an emotional gotcha or an attempt to oh-so-cleverly subvert expectations and stifle joy. It's a journey worth taking alongside Hazel, who comes of age and comes into an understanding of her power by the end. The crossroads with Orisha names in Ch. 12 was an excellent and authentic touch. Props to the original system of magic & cosmology that's firmly rooted in Southern magickal traditions. That Roux is one smooth talker... couldn't believe it's the same voice behind Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best) but it's true. Respect, Mr. Best. The Magician's plans all come to fruition in the end, and everything weaves together. We travel through grief to reach peace and a happy ending.
Very entertaining and with good flow and artistic estetics
Loved the story and action was right for the game length.
The story is fun and mysterious. The music is beautiful!

Estilo de arte destacable junto a una banda sonora adaptativa de manera increiblemente inmersiva, una historia que no es dificil de seguir el "hilo". Juego ideal para jugadores casuales. Buena optimizacion
Playing this game because of the recent news with Xbox. I remember when this game got announced, it was one of the most interesting, cool-looking things during that showcase, and it did not disappoint. This game is gorgeous and will age beautifully. What will not age beautifully is the gameplay; even when this first launched, this was dated. The combat, exploration, skill tree, and movement are all subpar, and that sentiment is even more so true for combat. This game is very story-focused, but basically everything that leads up to the main story beats is: do 4 combat arenas, run away from basic spooky big bad, and maybe or maybe not (depending on the creature) get into a final boss fight with them. The boss fights themselves are fun (besides the final boss), incredibly basic but with cool designs and REALLY amazing music that more than make up for the shortcomings of the mechanics themselves. Now, as for the story, I have to say the main plot did not connect with me at ALL. I did not care for Hazel or her mom, which is crazy for how bad the game wants you to care about them. However, I must add that the individual smaller stories of all these cool folklore creatures are so cool and always so interesting, and those little stories are clearly where the devs put in most of the work, because not one of those stories sucked. TL;DR: Gameplay is not great, visuals are amazing, main storyline sucks but makes up for it with the creature lore. Definitely recommend trying this game out as long as you can handle the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gameplay loop, and I definitely don't think this studio deserves to get shut down.
this game was something very good story in my opion
