meh not a lot there
Flawed, and for a specific audience. Please continue reading for specifics. This is a rather true-to-difficulty Rogue-style game that may cause you to restart quite a few times before you actually get anywhere. There's some meta to getting around easier, but the game has thrown me insurmountable curveballs before, so don't get too committed to any run. I've beaten it a few times, and it does have some stinging bugs (One of my saves did get corrupted on the exact action required to win, which sucks.). If you don't mind the ride-or-die of a true Rogue game, you'll probably get the swing of this and have a lot of fun. If you want a game where RNG can't nuke you out of left bank, I'd recommend trying something else.
While enjoyable for a few hours this game is regrettably just mediocre. There are better alternatives in the genre, I can't in good conscience recommend this over them. The sequel is much the same.
A real hidden gem. Brutally punishing at first with a bit of a learning curve, but rewarding once you figure out what you're doing. Expect to be blindsided now and then, (maybe don't use any altars at lvl 3...) Filled with references and inspiration from all over fantasy realms, like aD&D, LOTR, Skyrim.. even Full Metal Alchemist. A real sense of progression and satisfaction, and murderhoboing everything in your path.
8/10 my type of game, has a few issues so not a nine, tens are nearly imposible on my scale, this is an amazing game that I want more of, cant wait for the full release of Soulash2!
Rouge like
Impossible to outrun even starting area enemies. Doesn't help that generating a new world takes entirely too long.
Soulash is a great and very deep rogue-lite game. Not gonna lie, It's a very hard game, there is no holding hands here, but if you dedicate some time to it you will have a great time. You will easily lose track of time. I enjoyed the sequel so much ( tried the demo, it's the full game but an older version) that I immediately got hooked then I got this one too. The developer is a nice guy and deserve our support. Recently he was target of a harassment campaign because his second game relies too much in lineage ( If your character dies you continue playing with their children and grandchildren, you can build a whole city if you wish) and because of that the activists tried to cancel him demanding same sex marriage. He was very polite and gave his reasons but they don't care, or it works their way or they will try to shame you and destroy your reputation. I play on Steam Deck docked to a 1080p display using keyboard and mouse, it works great, you have the option to increase the size of the fonts of every section of the UI. Everything works flawlessly.
Great roguelike with detailed and intractable world interesting to explore.
