The review is negative but the product is good. You can download Medibang Paint for free online, exclusive for steam. The steam version DOES have more features, but I cannot even name one that stands out to me. You also still need a membership for the premium brushes. I still get charged ~$2 randomly from medibang and cannot find any way to cancel it either. It's not worth $40. Download the free version. https://medibangpaint.com/en/app-download/
As someone who's been a MediBang user for the last 9 years, somehow the version that I paid for is the worst one. A not so small small list of complaints I have: App opens Untitled Project on start up which is a setting that I can't turn off and wasn't on the non steam. App crashes when doing multiple actions (exporting file, exporting animation, exporting time-lapse, saving project to cloud) it's gotten to the point that I can predict when doing something will make the program crash, so I have to do something else preemptively so I don't lose progress on work. Can't export animations half the time, Can't export animations as GIFs in app. It becomes harder and harder with each passing day to stay a MediBang user with the barebones accessibility, features and lackluster dev support when other drawing applications are improving consistently. The ONLY reason you'd ever buy this is for the Onion Skin mode or gradient map feature, neither of which are work all the trouble this will give you.
I’ve been using MediBang since I first started learning digital art about 4 years ago on my phone, then moved to the PC version, and now the paid version. After around 1000 hours of use, honestly, buying the Steam version feels like a waste. I’ve run into a lot of bugs that I never even had in the free version. The cursor feels really inconsistent, scrolling through layers is pretty annoying, and the pen pressure is just really bad. From what I’ve seen, the app hasn’t been updated since last year. I really hope there’ll be an update to fix these issues. Please take better care of your paid app.
i paid for this, yet the pen pressure doesnt work on linux. dissapointing. this bs need to be fixed asap.
It works, but it's NOT worth fifty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollars.
I’ve been using MediBang Paint for years, back when it was completely free, and it has been a huge part of my creative journey. It’s one of those apps that helps artists grow—whether you’re sketching casually or working on full illustrations and comics and its really good for those still starting to learn digital art. When they released the paid version with added features, I decided to finally buy it as I wanted to support the creators and show my gratitude. The app has helped me so much over the years, and paying for it felt like giving back to a tool that has consistently delivered value to me. Of course, like any software, there are occasional bugs, but I rarely experience them. What I appreciate is that the developers actively release patches and fixes, which shows they really care about improving the app. (I’m really hoping future updates will expand the animation features even more, seeing more tools and improvements for animating would make it even more powerful and versatile for artists) Overall, MediBang Paint is reliable, artist-friendly, and constantly improving. Whether you’re using the free version or the paid one, I highly recommend it.
Medibang itself is a great tool, but it has weird bugs when using on steam. Just buy it from the medibang website instead of here.
Nothing wrong with it, but unless you really wanna support the devs, it's not really worth it since the free version exists. It has gradient maps, a *lot* of new brushes, and an onion skin feature, but that's about it. I mostly got it for the brushes & resources. There's definitely a lot of useful ones, so I'm pretty happy with that. However, sometimes it is significantly slower than the free version which was disappointing. I've seen a lot of people even complain about it crashing like crazy with big projects. I haven't encountered that, probably because I haven't made a big piece since I started using this version, but it is pretty damn laggy sometimes. Overall, not worth it unless you wanna support the devs because there's literally just 3 noticeable features that I'm aware of in comparison to the free version. (all of which you could do for free with custom brushes, gradient map websites or photo editors, duplicate/lower opacity layers)
This piece of crap crashes a lot and autosave doesn't work
