A short, sweet, and spooky little story set in a world mostly comprised of real photographs of abandoned places captured by the developer. Hospitals, schools, sewers, and radioactive exclusion zones are warped into an expansive subterranean urban exploration nightmare (supplemented by actual beautiful papercraft collage work!) Clearly some lessons taken from Disco Elysium's school of UI and some story elements leaning on ideas put forth in Tarkovsky's film "Stalker". Gameplay in the city of Minerva is straightforward, you explore an abandoned place and grapple with the ghosts left behind, usually through explicitly stated dialogue but sometimes through spooky and more abstracted sequences. Some light pixel hunting will reward players looking for extra context as well as some extra photographs to see. It was really fun and meaningful to me to get to participate in this art, and I wish all the best to Charles and hope to see more of his world put out into media form someday soon.
Take the ride. TRUST ME it's worth a while. Very entangling story that will make you question your own life, no lie!
A short spooky mystery set in an abandoned city that is super underrated! The fact that nearly all the photos were taken by the developer in real abandoned locations is maybe the coolest part of the game. Only took me a few hours to beat and it was great!
(Obligatory Received For Free Disclaimer) CONTENT WARNINGS (because there are none for the game) Substance abuse Talks of self-harm/"unaliving self" Child abuse Animal abuse (ETC ETC, Be careful) This game is truly fascinating in the way it tells its story in such a captivating way, which includes tasteful and sometimes shocking humor that is strategically placed within dialogue as to not ruin the intensity of a specific scene or destroy the overall grit of the story itself. The jokes and the sass blend really well with the seriousness and isn't distracting or silly. The game uses real life pictures for most/all of its assets, including the characters and scenery. This was the most alluring part of Sons of Saturn for me, personally. The handcrafted environment felt similar to analogue horror, though some people may disagree with my comparison. But that's just my personal tastes and opinions. The story was gripping from the start and easy to follow. You may be able to guess what's happening, but not to the full extent. I'm the type of person who tries to Sherlock their way through a good story, and I was pleasantly rewarded with being "kind of right" while still being surprised at the true nature of the mysteries presented to us. Unfortunately, not every game is perfect, and neither is this one, so here's my following complaints: -The grammar is really jarring sometimes and makes dialogue confusing to read. The script seems littered with grammatical errors, typos, and autocorrected words altogether. It looks as though little to no proofreading had actually been performed before letting the final draft make it into the game. -The game should have content warnings and be properly labeled, especially when streaming on Twitch. Twitch does not recognize this as a Mature game, and without actually playing the game or seeing much content on it, I was unaware of some of the topics being mentioned and was unable to warn my viewers before talks of abuse, self-harm, and other heavy topics were presented. I don't mind that these topics ARE in the game, I mind that there wasn't proper notice of them so I couldn't tag my own content appropriately. Please keep this in mind in the future, especially when you know your game will be played by content creators. It's also jarring and unfair to unsuspecting consumers to suddenly and abruptly be hit with immediately troubling and upsetting subjects that they were not aware of prior to purchasing the game. And to reiterate, it's totally fine to talk about these things, but it's not fine to sidestep any sort of warnings or labels to ensure a safe playing experience. All in all, I DO recommend this game. It was hilarious, it was astonishing, it was gritty, it was worth the time and effort to play it.

Point and click visual spookies
Fans of games such as "Harvester" or those who enjoy reading horror and other narrative stories will enjoy this game. It is an old-school point-and-click game in which you simply click the arrow keys to navigate and attempt to solve the "Where's Mom" mystery by searching for clues and trying to figure out what is going on in a terrifying and surreal environment. As an individual who prefers auditory narration to reading, the content was sufficiently captivating to maintain my interest and curiosity regarding the plot and its underlying motives.
Conclusion
The experience is akin to an acid trip, I could see myself returning in order to determine with certainty who the Ferrymen are, why the location is the way it is, and what the significance of locating our mother is—if only I had the time.
man this game is good i sure am unbiased
Move through an old hospital and find out what happened to your mother. You move around the hospital in first-person mode by clicking on arrows and visiting rooms. Places are abandoned so you see rubble and debris everywhere, stuff lying on the ground, rooms looking like they were ransacked. Most have a single interaction point that shows a magnifying glass when you move the mouse over it. These are very hard to miss because they might take half of the screen. Some only give a short description, while others feel a bit more important. The game is more of a visual novel than anything else. The images are shown on the left side and the text unfolds on the right side. When you click on an important hotspot or make progress in the story, you will get several actions or responses to choose from. There are no adventure elements. Important items are received and used automatically as you click on hotspots. White responses are meant to give you more information about yourself and the world you are in, while yellow choices will move the story forward. You can’t miss anything with hotspot actions because you can always click on them again. Story choices don’t matter that much because while bits of text might be different, the outcome will always be the same. The game isn’t long, but the story requires a slow read due to abstract themes. It might be taking place in a familiar spot, such as a hospital, but the theme leans into fantasy.
Gonna give this game a positive review because the visuals are great and the novel is interesting. I just don't think I quite have the patience to beat it. Pick it up if you want a bizarre read and interesting visuals.
Very cool game, with a story that hooks you up from the start and turns dark very fast. Gorgeous visuals, with all of the images made from real photographs, i'm so curious about the process developing this game! This game is almost all text, recommended if you like a story-heavy game with lots of reading, I normally don't have the patience for this kind of games but this one got me hooked and I enjoyed it a lot. Ghost nurse drugged me but I had a nice trip. My only warning is that this game contains some heavy themes that may not be for everyone, like:
drug abuse and abortions
