Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2/day in the week to Aug 14 → 6.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 29: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Definitely not the best Sonic Collection out there, I would recommend using mods for the best experience. I do wish games like Knuckles' Chaotix and Sonic 3D blast were included as bonuses though.
Sonic Origins is a very solid collection of the classic Genesis Sonic games. As far as the features of the collection itself goes, it's mostly positive. The Anniversary Modes are a godsend in being able to play each game with unlimited lives, though Classic Mode is still there for those who want a challenge. The games themselves play and sound very smooth; I've seen some negative reviews talk about this collection being glitchy, but I never came across such problems in my time playing through all the games. The new cutscenes added to each game at the beginning and end in that Mania style are a nice touch. For those who do Special Stages, the Anniversary Mode also allows for retries you can do on Special Stages if you've collected Coins that take the place of 1-Ups (since you have unlimited lives, no need for 1-Ups, so they converted those into the Retry Coins that are also used to unlock Museum content). My one gripe with this collection (which I've oddly not really seen too many reviews mention) is the fact that keyboard mapping in this game is very strange. Mainly the fact that it just straight up does not allow you to map movement to the arrow keys, which is typically how I like to play platformer games. the WASD for movement and K to jump ended up being fine, but I wish it allowed for arrow key movement. I'll briefly also go over the different games in the collection and I'll mention which characters I played with each game. For Sonic 1 I played as Sonic; this game is probably my least favorite of the bunch in this collection. While Green Hill and Star Light are good zones and Marble is okay, I'm not the biggest on Spring Yard, Labyrinth isn't great either, and Scrap Brain might be my least favorite zone across all the games. At least in this version of the game you can Spin Dash (you couldn't in the original version, though I'm speaking from playing Anniversary Mode, not sure if it's in the Classic Mode or not). I will note that I'm not someone who typically goes for getting all the Chaos Emeralds in each game (not a big fan of the Special Zones), but I did at least attempt all of the Special Zones to see how they felt. This definitely had my least favorite Special Zone, it's a wonky mess to control and just isn't fun at all. Bosses are basic, but it's the first game, so I can give it a pass. Final boss was decent at least. Overall an okay game, but not the best of the bunch. Sonic CD is one of my two favorites in this collection. I played through this as both Sonic and Amy (I did get the DLC with her, which I will cover later). I mainly played this game twice because you can actually play with either the JP or the US soundtrack, so I did a playthrough of the game, one listening to the JP OST and the other playthrough with the US OST. I actually quite enjoy both soundtracks; typically most people love the JP soundtrack and push the US soundtrack to the side, but I think both are quite good. I would maybe still give an edge to the JP soundtrack (JP Quartz Quadrant is my favorite song in the game), but both soundtracks are fantastic and worth a listen. The level design is great; I took some umbrage with was Collision Chaos, but even then it's not too bad (I know a lot of people hate Wacky Workbench, but I didn't think it was that bad). The only section of level design I really didn't like was the rotating platform section in Metallic Madness Act 3. The rest of the game is a joy to play through and I thoroughly enjoyed both playthroughs of the game. Also will note that the bosses were very interesting, you could tell they were being more experimental with the bosses in this game and I think most of them (except maybe Collision Chaos' that one was just annoying) were really fun. Although comparatively, I would say the final boss is the most underwhelming of the bunch, but not bad. Special Zone was probably the second best one imo. Sonic 2 is my other favorite in this collection and I played through this one as Tails. Great level design just about the whole way through. I know some people hate Metropolis Zone, but I didn't find it to be that bad except for the mantis enemies and the boss. The one zone I didn't care much for was Wing Fortress. Great OST as well. The bosses are back to being more basic for the most part, but the final boss is my favorite of the Genesis era games. I'm actually going to differentiate between Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles here because while this collection features the combined version, I do think there is a noticeable shift of quality between the Sonic 3 levels (Angel island to Launch Base) and the Sonic and Knuckles levels (Mushroom Hill to Death Egg). Sonic 3 I felt had an alright level selection but not exceptional while Sonic and Knuckles had a really good level selection minus Death Egg (Sandopolis, if you're playing as Sonic, is not as hard as some people say it is). Death Egg was a massive drop in quality and just an annoying zone to get through. Boss wise I felt that Sonic 3's were hit and miss while Sonic and Knuckles' were mostly pretty good. They went back to being more experimental with their bosses for both of these games and generally I felt that it worked. The final boss of 3 was actually pretty good but I wasn't too big on the final bosses for either Sonic or Knuckles in Sonic and Knuckles (they have different final bosses). I did play through as both Sonic and Knuckles because they have very noticeable changes between their playthroughs. Sonic is definitely the more fun character to play (for the most part) and Knuckles is basically playing through the game on Hard Mode. They especially end very different from the end of Lava Reef onwards. While Sonic still has several more zones, Knuckles just goes straight to the final boss and (as mentioned earlier) has a different final boss from Sonic. I do slightly prefer Knuckles' final boss to Sonic's, but for most of the experience I preferred Sonic. Overall though the combined Sonic 3 Knuckles experience is still pretty solid though. One other note to make though is that Sonic 3 sadly had to take out the tracks Michael Jackson worked on, but the replacements they made for them were just straight up not that great. Wish the replacement tracks were better. Then there's the DLC, which gives playable Amy throughout the collection, playable Knuckles in CD, and several Game Gear titles. Amy is honestly probably the least different of the non-Sonic playable characters from Sonic, but still has a hammer attack she can use while jumping to get extra height and a special drop dash. She can be a fun character to play, even if her differences don't offer that much of a different experience from just playing as Sonic. Then there's the Game Gear games. There are four I played to completion: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, and Sonic Triple Trouble. In short, don't play 1 and 2, Chaos and Triple Trouble are worth considering. Sonic 1 has okay level design but really awkward, floaty controls. Sonic 2 has slightly better control than 1 but way worse level design and is probably the worst of the Game Gear platformers. Sonic Chaos controls well and has solid level design but the levels are very short (35-55 seconds on average). Sonic Triple Trouble had more fleshed out level design and had higher highs but also lower lows than Chaos. The other games either have better versions on Genesis or just aren't worth playing. Is it worth it to get the DLC? If you like Amy and want to play as her, want to play Knuckles in CD, or want to play the Game Gear Platformers (only 2 of which are worth it); yes. Otherwise, no. Brief ordering of favorite to least favorite Sonic CD + Sonic 2 (can't pick between the 2) > Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Knuckles section > 3 section), Sonic 1 Game Gear Platformers (DLC) Sonic Triple Trouble > Sonic Chaos > Sonic 1 > Sonic 2 Great collection for fans of classic Sonic or sidescroller platformers in general!
