Basically a nostalgia bait that's trying to recreate a flash game. There are quite a few of these topdown shooters here on steam and this is probably the weakest one out of the bunch I ever had the pleasure of playing. It has an uninspiring level design and progression system.
Very positive? I think not, it's pretty mid at best. 5/10
It is fun. New mechanics/monsters/environments are introduced from time to time, so I did not get bored one minute (after 3 hours). Music is good, sounds could be a bit more immersive. Also: dev, please add controller vibration (matching with the gun type if possible). This would improve immersion a lot and make shooting the slimy things even more exciting! <3 [Edit]: I completed a second run. I still had fun. It also triggered this old memory of playing Alien Breed on Amiga, way way back... Not so many top-down shooters manage to give you this feeling. For example each enemy does make a sound that you can hear a moment before seeing it. Also, the night levels with the lamp torch attached to your gun are quite fun! Same idea... "What am I getting myself into if I walk into this cave?..."
Negatives: - Keys not re-bindable. Positives: - The default keys are fine. - Lots of blood & gore makes for satisfying monster splatting. - Shooting things is fun. - Affordable. - Easy to pick up & play. - You won't need to buy a new PC to play this. - No microtransactions. - Attractive female characters. - No gay ♥♥♥♥ or communism.
Looks and plays like a bad flash game

Just got to the 3rd planet. At this point I didn't get bored even once: diversity of enemies and locations. Can't say the locations are challenging, although I died many times. The game is a solid twin-stick shooter, not perfect, just solid. And it works great on Steam Deck.
picking up different guns with various stats to consider was interesting but that was about it. the movement and aiming have some kind of kinetic physics delay so rather than snappy feeling action you get kind of a sluggish dragging sensation the entire time. then theres the sin of the options menu. there is no resolution selection, just the window scaling to your current monitor resolution. you can alt enter to enable a windowed mode but no option for that in the game. you can turn shadows on or off, turn the music or sound up or down and select your language. I would say that's all you need but you can't change your controls at all which seems problematic and seemingly beyond the developer to implement. the inclusion of a toggle for shadows feels bizarre as like a performance option, it might be referring to the heavy fog of war as featured in their other game Mooch but I never disabled it so who knows. death only comes closer and I suggest you play the hundreds of free games in this genre before attempting to play this one for 10 dollars. I don't even think I would put a dollar towards it, theres nothing to really write home about, no leaderboards despite there being plenty of stats upon level completion. your character has a dialogue bubble that appears when they say stuff but also when you try to pickup health when you are already full it uses the same dialogue bubble but maxes it out and obscures a quarter of the screen to display 2 small words Health Full or something like that. is my character saying Health Full? or you just wanted to cram gameplay relevant information into this area you've deemed appropriate for all text but also displayed as something the character is saying. the game is 2.49 gb installed when it feels like it should be no more than 800mb and plenty of games do farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr more at well under 500mb let alone a few hundred. I would say son of a gun packs little to no punch for its weight
